Vile woman!!! Blaming the builder.....and so cowardly!
this couple should be in Spinal Tap..."What would you do differently?" hahahhahaha
I know I'm speaking from my armchair, but that fundamental mistake of overlooking the sloped floor...oh sherbet. I noticed the big "step" in the barn floor early on. That poor architect.
I think of my poor dog not wanting to walk across the clear glass hallway floors upstairs. She probably wouldn't even step on them without feeling like she's on the edge of a cliff and in danger of falling off.
It'd be hard to keep all of the glass in the house clean.
The architect is a real slim ball
Nothing says comedic tragedy more than furniture designers who believe that qualifies them to design a building.
The architect should have had the discussion about the slab and setting point with the project manager. Instead he was smug and rude. Ugh.
Not to my taste but if they are happy that's it.
To save money and time…Why didn’t they redesign the layout with living room at the end of the barn with open ceiling Instead of digging down for the first floor to be all on one level. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ do you really need a Cinema room… eliminate! Funny how she is blaming everybody else for the issues…🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
A project manager who blames everyone else except herself for ongoing negligence!!
There was ongoing negligence - from the architect not measuring the building properly, to not communicating the strange position from where to measure the floor to drawing up the height of the glass door wrong, then others giving low quotes that later jumped massively. She turned into a nag with the stress though (I felt sorry for the builders).
@@pichelen to be fair the architect was initially only paid to draw plans and not on site things, I cannot blame them for this.
why keep invoking the greeknness of builders. greeks we’re building pantheon when english lived in hut. so quit the racism
Greeks are a nation not a race. So no racism involved.
And Greece doesn't have the same building codes as England so builders can be used to do things which will not hold up in England.
Educate yourself before opening your mouth.
How in the world does an architect get through the design and planning stages without noticing the building is on such a drastic slope.
Based on the short bit where they only paid for a drawing and not for his time on site, I suspect they insisted on a low price they'd be willing to pay so he made due with a quick visit or just photos. Especially with the husband griping about paying for their own mistakes.
That woman had no idea how to manage a project at all
That first contractor was spot on and he was lucky to be "released". I'm a building contractor and those clients are truly the nightmare. RUN far and fast if you get a whiff of that!!!
truly! it's insane these people seem to miscalculate on every step!
I agree.
This is an underwhelming building considering the cost and a thoroughly unlikeable couple.
People who want and expect something for little or nothing wind up spending more. Ignorance is truly bliss. She needs to be told off publically!
her screeching and getting in the way on site everyday would have been a nightmare, no wonder she struggled for workers.
The first contractor was spot on, saw how big the project was, quoted what they ended up paying anyway, he was lucky to get away from this nightmare of a build.
The way she spoke about the workmen, as if they were trying to rip her off etc etc really shows what kind of a customer she was, i would not have gone near it.
Having worked in construction all my life , and im 68 now , i would not have tolerated this opinionated stressed out amateur one day .I honestly dont know how tradesmen tolerate the attitude. Great program though.
What an F=in B-arch. I’m surprised the second group of builders didn’t down tools and walk off.
A programme worth watching, but so many lessons to be learned.
For sure !
Heh. My comfort ‘food’ for years, this series. Always fun to see some over-confident, self-absorbed toffs getting harsh collisions with reality. In the end some of them have actually learned something. Kevin is always keen to point that out. There’s also a lot of different things that can be learned from this series. In his own amiable, charming way, Kevin is a great educator.
Couldn’t agree more. What every man needs is a wife like that. No wonder the husband is staying away .
@@raymondsmith4401 Hilarious! (But I had the same thought!)
Great comment! And ME TOO (comfort food).
I've learnt SO MUCH from watching these shows.... and appreciate Kevin's questions, prodding and humour.
I think people are unrealistic sometimes in their budgets in these builds especially rehab an old structure. Not having the architect involvement and her lack of understanding the plans was a huge mistake on her part and she should on it.
Why on earth was a proper and accurate survey made of the status quo before commencing? That’s by far the most important thing in any renovation or restoration.
How can you possibly make sensible decisions about how to procede if you don’t know exactly and precisely what you are starting from?
Absurd amateurism.
Of course I meant “Why was a proper survey NOT made…etcetera “
Apologies for jumping the word “not”.
This woman reminds me of myself - I don’t get along with nobody😂😂😂😂
the husband is so arrogant at the onset, declaring that the build is a simple one and should not cost a lot of money.
What kind of architect does not know the inner height of the existing building?
Thanks for the intro clip where she says "it's like managing 10 year olds" that tells a lot about her attitude. She even calls the builders "pigs". WTF. And the toilets are open to the rest of the building without separate ventilation... what do you think will happen?
The husband is a saint. Jane is the worst type of client she does not understand that craftsman are professionals with the greatest degree of integrity.
Lesson here is that when you try to go fast...fuckups happen and in the end, it costs more.
Nice house, awful owners!
Like the design, but not the couple.
They know the square footage so it’s easy to calculate from there. Egos and financials can be real game changers. Just looking at the size of the barn I suspected they were off by 150,000 to 200,000 dollars; depending on their finishes.
The end result: a very fine-looking resto-mod Barn/Home. And fortunately, wealthy clients ($$) were able to neutralize numerous errors. The Project Management/Manager(ess?) being the lynch-pin error - though I suspect she'll never admit to her error(s). A professional/experienced PM would have noticed the sub-flooring (dirt) level issue (s) - the ground floor concrete pour being the most costly and then visually, the second floor not being level with the door frame. That is an unsightly error...the elephant in the room.
Still, plenty of 'Lessons Learned' / Teaching-moments, in this episode for any Home builders to consider/learn from - in order to create their own home - with minimal cock-ups.

He works with very smart people from London she says about the builder from Greece she,s got a horrible attitude wtf
I admire the patience and dedication of the project manager to come up with this stunning home.
The only person with any brains was the first builder who managed to dodge a bullet and head for the hills !
The owners talk too much, thought they knew a lot, but hardly looked or listened. That's where miscommunication start.
Отличная реставрация! Архитектор суперрр!
Brand new roof.... broken tile.....
horrible loud woman...
What a slim ball of a architect
I'll NEVER understand wanting to live in a building that has all its windows in one-fell-swoop, on one wall, and NO WINDOWS IN THE BEDROOMS. I find that 'design' (or lack thereof) to be lugubrious.
Well done to jane
36:24, one tile broken and edges not covered by water drainage system la la la... it's like a complete noob was oversighting it
I think they would have saved money,as a lot of miss communication went out the door, its a lovely place not something i would venture into at there age.
Absolutely Amazing!!!
This is simply amazing. Top notch.
Beautiful end product. But should have let the Architect be the project manager. He could have saved the first $20,000 mistake, even though Jane did a fine job managing and getting the most for her money.
Both Jane and the architect were blamed for this, but I feel the architect was more to blame. 10:00
I think it turned out beautifully.
Best barn renovation i saw
May I ask what they did with the whole wall, was it white washed to give it this lovely effect everywhere
Looks lile the old wall is newly plastered, isn't it?
I don't understand why they can't let this people add a little more height if needed instead of restricting them to such extent that they have to spend alot of money to make it work....I really feel for them, nice work though.
