Q&D take: OSRAM W1 & W2 shootout in various flashlights

Here's a "quick & dirty" take on OSRAM W1 & W2 emitters in various different sized lights and how that effects the hotspot size. It's me yapping' for 10 minutes as I wave my cursor over some photos I took of the various lights. Could be useful to those wondering whether to go W1 or W2. Enjoy!

W1 is perfect for very small flashlights, especially 14500 sized lights due to its efficiency and the small reflector makes the spot larger.

I have already the D4V2 Ti with 4 XP-L Hi V2 5D 4000k.
I love how bright it is and the colour temperature is good.
It is so floody and bright, you can’t believe that ist only 4 emitters.
And it don’t step steps down visible! The cooper did a great job.
I use it for long time by mountain biking and geocaching in the night. The brightness stays often on full by biking and there is no step down, only by turbo. Great!
And i have a Sofirn if25a with 4 SST20 4000k 95CRI.
This colour temperature is so beautiful for the eve’s by geocaching. I like it more than the XP-L Hi, but the SST20 is not so bright.
And i like the usb-c port. But it steps so fast down that it is not good for biking.
Now i wanne buy a second D4V2 Ti
And i am thinking about to choose the channel switching one.
With 2 sst20 4000k and 2 W1 or W2 in white.
What do you think is better in this?
W1 or W2?
The W1 has longer battery runtime but what will be the better throw in this?
The range of my 4 XP-L Hi is not many.
But i like the size and cooling of the D4V2 Ti so much.
The foody one i have now.
Now i wanne a little bit more range in this good size.
Hanks DM1.12 comes later for real good throw. But there i don’t know W1, W2 or SFT-40 on the throw???
The flood will be SST20.
There are many emitters on the market were i don’t know is it more floody or more throwy. Like LH351D or E21A or 219BT-Vi…. Did u know a Page for me where i can watch this differences?
And CRI and how the color temperature comes in real?
4000k XP-L Hi has in my eyes the same colour temperature like SST40 in 5000k as example.
I am to poor to try it all. I have to know more about it. 🧐😊

the w1 is seriously underrated. I think it's better than the w2. If you want more "floody" thrower get the sft-70 or sbt90.2. The w2 just seems like a bad compromise to me. The w1 is also more efficient so you get better sustained brightness.

Careful with blue light especially high lumen. Even though an LED is a specific color temperature, there could be some blue wavelengths that could increase macular degeneration which is one of the leading causes of blindness as people age.

I was thinking about getting a kr1 with w1 green osram as an edc security guard light, but from this it actually looks pretty large for the pocket...

It’s right on the edge. Still fits in front pockets on jeans, but it is rather big. I have a video aiming out this weekend about the Manker E05 that might interest you.

I HAVE 2 C8 HOST ONE OF THEM I WANT TO MAKE IT A PENCIL BEAM BUT IN GREEN THE OTHER A THROWER WHAT CAN YOU RECOMEND ME .
