Probably the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Visited Cambodia a while back, which is one of the most heavily landmined countries in the world. Literally people and elephants missing limbs. They have removed thousands and thousands of mines but there's still potentially so many more. If you go to Cambodia stay on the trails, do not go exploring unless told by a local it's safe to do so. Go rat!

They’re too light to trigger land mines in any way; that’s the beauty of it. A rat could jump up and down all day on a land mine and nothing would happen, as land mines require a specific amount of weight or more before they’ll explode; otherwise the weight of the soil and small animals would set them off. The whole point of setting out land mines is to keep them hidden until a human or vehicle comes through. The rat is as safe as a customs dog in an airport, sniffing out things for a reward. The only threat is predators, who mostly likely won’t go near because of the human at the end of the leash.
As for the banana; a peeled banana is very squishy and unsuitable for handling. They’re only exposing what they’re giving as a treat, and the rats like the peel, too. Most animals aren’t as fussy as humans when it comes to eating produce. XD

Now what I want to know is...what is the punishment for the so-called (according to you since you said it's illegal) crime for letting rats run around and allowing them to be blown up, and in what country? Considering it costs several thousand dollars and a year or so of training, I am SURE they treat those rats very well. Just as you would a bomb sniffing dog. You don't just destroy and abuse things that are valuable do you? Neither would they....

Yea, I think the main difference between fancy, and food, is they mess up the regular (food) rats hair to make them look less appealing. I always pictured the non fancy rats wondering when they were going to get adopted.....
