The children’s programme from the production house Studio 100 in Schelle, Belgium, enjoyed an immediate huge success, totalling 295 episodes. The regular cast originally consisted of four gnomes, Plop, Kwebbel, Lui and Klus. This was joined in 1998 and 1999 by Smul and Smal. After a few years, the gnomes also appeared on the big screen in 10 feature films. Jan van Kraeydonck made a medley of the best-known songs from this series: Het Ploplied, Lalala & Kabouterdans.
