Listening to Yourself - Silvia Poloto - The Art2Life Podcast Episode 135

- Art2Life.com - Silvia Poloto emigrated to the United States in the 90s. It was here that she stumbled on a knack for art-and it changed the trajectory of her life.
When Silvia was finishing her Master’s Degree, she started cutting out pieces from magazines and making collages. She started working with metal. Looking to learn more, she signed up for a class called “Metal Arts,” only to realize it was a jewelry-making class.
She spent her time in class creating small sculptures with the material. Her instructor was fascinated. She shared her art with him and he was impressed, convinced she had an art degree instead of one in engineering. That’s when she realized she might have a future in art.
She taught herself metalworking, painting and photography. With every subsequent work of art, her style evolves. She allows her inner self to direct the next piece.

Totally enjoy what Nicholas is offering in his podcast. While listening, I pulled my belly plate out and paint and added a second layer on a 38 inch round canvas! You and Nicholas inspired me this afternoon. Love the mix of photo and paint and its simplicity in form and color.

This is one of my favorite interviews. Nicholas you have a wonderful gift of speaking, listening and interviewing. The space you gave Silvia to explain and express herself was beautiful. Sylvia is wonderful, refreshing and soulful. She is a wild cat and I love her views, the way she thinks, feels about things. She really touched me and reminded me a bit of who I am, but forgot it have been hiding. Thank you.
Great podcast. Thanks Nicholas and Sylvia.
thank you for listening
Love her energy, authenticity and strong spirit, and how she is so unapologetically herself. She needs to find a gallery that works with her strengths, the variety and surprising directions of her work are her signature.
thank you so much
Very interesting and real interview, thank you very much !
Really enjoyed this episode. I appreciated Silvia's honesty and your gentle way of interviewing her let us not only learn about her process but, to learn about how she moves through her art and life. You give the artists time and space to share with us so much of who they are.

Beautiful, Silvia: " You have all the answers. It's just you're not quiet to listen." That's it. Thanks Nick for interviewing this beautiful soul.

trust me, it is not that easy 😆
Great guest. Such intriguing and thought provoking discussion
thank you!
Great chat...learn lots from you both 😊
I really love the whole vibe of this interview. Her energy and world view is inspiring - and validating - as I am a process creator. "Call and response' - I like that description. And .....I am not ashamed to say I am so jealous of that 'warehouse'. What a fantastic space.
LOVE this interview, and sadly I can't continue in the Academy this year.. but the art2life interviews and re-doing CVP2024 lessons will keep me going 2024-2025! and SPARK!
Silvia is delightful. So happy to have seen this interview. Thank you, Nick.

😀
Fabulous interview and inspiring for my art and life!
🙏
Amazing guest. Silvia exposes a very internal world behind her art.
so glad you liked it
When I look to Silvia Poloto's works, it burns inside me, because I like it so much, it even hurts... And I see a piano in the «warehouse»! Does she plays piano? It is my case, I play piano and I paint. And I live in a kind of loft.
so happy you connect with my work. About the piano, it was my late husband's piano, and even though I do not play, it will forever keep it
@@silviapolotoart Thank you very much for your kind answer! xx
This was a wonderful affirmation.. reminding me of my own why I do art and the feeding of spirit. Thank you.
so glad!
Inspiring podcast. Interesting to see how we transition from one type of art to another. Love Sylvia's work.
very happy you found it inspiring
wonderful interview - Silvia is amazing
aww thank you so much
Inspirational conversation. I was stuck on a painting and so many ideas came to mind listening and watching. Thanks you. Loved the art you two were creating. Had to laugh when you said a bear isnt going to run us down. The other night sitting on my porch a bear cub went strolling by to the dumpster. 😄😉
Fascinating! Silivia is amazing!
thank you so much
Thanks for your inspiration.
So enjoyed this interview
That was wonderful.
I totally relate to Silvia.
I also do abstracts and figurative paintings, Both are important and need to happen simultaneously for me. At least now anyway.
I loved this podcast
😃
Do what you do and don't worry. If what you do is true it will resonate beyond your years here.
Excellent!
thank you!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Enjoyed whole conversation…interesting…
I’ve been gelli printing for 6 yrs…it’s alchemy…
Your comment about surprised that she had an engineering background. It was a very traditional attitude that a woman could be trained in Engineering. Please remember that feelings can be hurt by this type of gender preference in any activity.
how interesting you said that, I did not feel that coming from Nick at all. I think he was just surprised at the big change from engineering to art.
The interview is fascinating but the making art at same time is just totally disrespectful to the other person. Initially you were giving her full attention and she could flow, once you start arting you totally broke up the sharing flow, created distractions and no longer were keeping track of the actual discussion. And the lack of eye contact for the interviewee is disruptive and unsettling. It’s just rude and very unpleasant to watch.
No it isn’t
I love watching people paint!
Do you even know how Art2Life works? Just like in the video. Painting while interviewing. Or maybe you're just a bot after all 🤣
@@riteasrain I am a big fan of the page and watched for years. Interviews (previously without videos) did not use to include painting, they were purely videos. If you actually watch the video, what I say holds up. Why not keep the focus on the artist sharing bravely their story; we don’t always have to multitask!
@@deniseatkinson7510 yes, but not while interviewing on personal topics. I don’t know how people can’t watch this and see how the interview stagnates when eye contact is lost. People need connection when sharing personal stories. We are disconnecting and missing human links when multitasking. It’s like someone being on their phone while talking to you - it’s just rude!
