Rick Beato is the only one that can advertise "how to modernize your sound with THIS ONE EASY TRICK" and not be clickbait.
Obidiah 100% Amen
Simply one of the best channels for advanced musicians. Thanks a lot man, you give so much high-end information to the people. All thumbs up.
You don't have be advanced to get your music discussion fix from Beato.
Yeah, Adam Neely and Rick Beato are my go to guys for an in depth discussion about theory. It really helps out when you are in a rut.
what a fuckin legend
Whenever I hate music theory class I watch your video to affirm that it gets really awesome later
I cry and curse every time I watch one of your videos. (In a good way. Lol). EVERY video I have ever watched from you has UPGRADED both my knowledge AND my play. I want to go to school for music but I fear they won't get anywhere near this creative level. You fill in the gaps on all my theory(street taught) and I appreciate you for that. Thanks man. Keep up the good work! 😓😪
Rick manages to completely break down Todd Rundgren's sound in under 10 minutes..... mind blown-- totally one of the best UA-cam resources for musicians, and one of the best resources for musicians anywhere on the web. Thanks Rick!!
WhiteOakAmps yes. I too hear Mr. Rundgren in this, as well as Dori Caymmi!!!
Being a native Spanish speaker, I'm glad to see someone has added Spanish subs to this video. The aim to share information with fellow musicians and music enthusiasts who don't necessary understand English it's great, that tells a lot about the music theory community in UA-cam. As always, awesome content you post here Rick!
Damn son, you just stepped up your game! In both audio quality AND presentation! The mini-song sounded fresh as well.
Keep it up!
Why don't you have like a million subscribers by now! You are so awesome and so genuine. How can you have such an open heart to reveal to us such secrets. Oh God bless ya Rick! Not everything is shown by 'views' and 'subs' but you're certainly touching a lot of lives and making a difference in the world your own way!
He does now. Best music theory channel on the YT.
Wow! And all these years, I have been inverting chords just to make them more convenient to play. Now it makes so much more sense why when I play with the band my chords sound different and fill out the song better! Thanks for this eye opening video!
sometimes you don't even know what you know until Rick tells you it's okay to do it that way!
Nikki Stevenson you're a beautiful woman!
Your mastery of so many instruments blows me away.
Your channel has become my go-to resource for inspiring new directions in my playing. Thanks so much for providing the kind of advanced instruction that's almost impossible to find elsewhere!
Reaction video of me watching this video:
First 2 minutes is me going, "yup, I can follow that"
Next 3 minutes is me with a "hang on, I I have reservations about this" look on my face.
The rest is me crying my way through a haunted swamp on an out-of-control airboat.
so true 😭
In 1 minute of this video I heard the essence of 2 decades of my music passing by.
I think I am gonna watch this vid a couple of times.
:-)
Really fantastic content !
lo-ve it !
Clicked on this by mistake and so glad I did - I’m a reasonably advanced player and it’s great to get new and challenging ideas - Thank you.
This was just what I needed.Sometimes I come up with chords and melodies quickly and then sometimes I feel like I can't find anything to save my life. You have so much knowledge to grab from. This is what I like about your videos. It gives a lot of room for thought and an inspiration to learn and explore.I feel like a new born person.....Thank you for sharing Rick ...Just love it!
Rick, your videos just get better and better, I can't thank you enough. So many ideas coming from the subjects you're covering. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!
Pure Musical Genius!!! I enjoy and learn so much from your videos! Thanks for the inspiration and information! Blessings for you and your family always, and keep the magnificent work!!!
Brilliant - great lesson & amazing composition
Nice "progressive" sounding chords... I hear a lot of voicings (similar to these) in Maria Schneider's work (Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra) ...I love her harmonisations! (By the way: how about a Sounding Off with Maria Schneider?)
With music, in many cases, in my opinion, getting set back a thousand years, Rick, you are a shining light for MUSICANS; and those who aspire to become musicians, not someone strutting on a stage like a peacock. Thank you sir.
This sound is fantastic! I'm glad you shared this.
You are an Amazing teacher. Thank you for sharing.
This little song with vocal is so great, love it, thank you to teache us this chords
One of the most musically refreshing videos I've EVER seen. Thank you so much Rick!
That's a super cool approach, thanks for sharing it.
Sounds great! Great concept!
Dylan's (and your) voice really bring it to life. Anytime I hear an interesting chord progression played with voice or horns, especially when compared to originally hearing it on a piano, it has so much more richness. Thanks for demonstrating.
Thank you for sharing your knowledgement! God bless you!
Fascinating! Can't wait to get home and try it out. Thanks!
Sounds great. Very good lesson!!
Watched 2x... 1st time watched & listened ...2x played chords & inversions with you. Learned alot thank you! Very cool & fresh ☺️
Thank you Rick, this is so cool, learning a lot from you, keep 'em comin'!
i cannot believe you provide these extremely high quality and very educational videos for free. thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, its greatly appreciated. thanks
Such an intriguing episode.. I use all those chords , but its awesome to see it demonstrated in a progression...thx Rick
Rick...You are a never ending fountain of useful information
Beautiful, fresh sounding chords. The trio demo of the progression was modern, grooving, and beautiful.
Rick this is an awesome vid! Great subject choice, clearly presented and what really hit me was your Feel when you played the keys....
What a great exercise in creativity !
Great chl. Here ! Thanks,
Jim.
That's unbelievable! All my favourite chords!
Just love this progression. It has a real concert feel for improvising.
I like it....Paul Mc Candless and Art Lande, Dave Samuels... Ralph Towner comes to my mind. 30 years ago almost nobody was able to improvise over such structures...wonderful Ideas....which already was there with Stravinsky Thank you a lot bringing it back to me.
Time Changes.
OMG.... genius stuff! It would be nice to get an album of your material like that!
6:30 the classic showing your friends your song posture. Love this track so much
Great teaching Rick. Glad I found your site
thank you so much Rick... Just what I have been looking for.
Wow! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Love that vocal track with your son and you on the piano. Very exciting sounding.
Wow, that was so cool! Thank you for the post.
Really consistent and inspiring. Thank you, Mr. Beato 😄
Thank you Rick!
Great lesson as always!
Your a master in music. Thanks for your sharing.
Love your composition with Dylan!!!
Rick your modes and passion make this all so do-able. Ukickit rickit
awesome stuff, thanks rick!
Nice teaser you gave us of that track in the anniversary livestream. It didn't disappoint. I'll be messing around on the piano tonight after work using the techniques you showed here. Thanks!
Another fun lesson - I use that alot and have continued to put those chords in more stuff ...
This is absolutely amazing!
You really ROCK RICK! What a great blog! So cool. You're mad talented sir.
I love this... in my backward, untrained, fumbling way I wrote a progression with a common tone but rather than using inversions I used chords of a scale, kind of like a McCartney "Blackbird" idea...
but what you just demonstrated is the sound I was really after... jogging my musical memory this reminds me of McCoy Tyner's work on "Inner Voices." It's a sound that's always resonated to my liking.
Ohh man!! You made me back to play guitar once again, best instructional videos ever!!
Brilliant, Rick, thank you! And yes, I did come through your IG account post :)
Brilliant stuff - as always.
Wonderful. Thank you.
awesome !...thanking you, Rick !
This is simply amazing.
I'd like to hear a Rick and Dylan album.
Oskar Förberg that'd be actually insane
Wow, great arrangement
That is an amazing chord progression!
Thank you Rick! you are helping me get out of my confort zone
Rick thank you man your work have helped me grow my composition skills Big up👏👏👏✊
So cool. Rick, you must be writing some very interesting music. Any chance you're going to release some of your music in some form?
Awesome. That you so much for everything.
I thought I understood music until I came across your videos. Absolutely amazing
It would be great if you could make a video about counterpoints and how improvise them
phenomenal, thanks.
I recalled on a video where someone mentioned if you could show a better view of the notes/chords you're playing, so it'll be visible to the viewer. Thank you for doing that, Rick!!!
I could listen this tune all the day...
I remember Goodrick used to teach this concept. It always sounds great !
Beautiful!
Those chords sound like the piano stuff Joni Mitchell was playing in the late '70s, no doubt drawing on the modern jazz she was listening to and the musicians she was playing with, like Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, and others. You can really hear that kind of thing when Herbie Hancock did the album River, where he reinterpreted her songs.
some of her stuff boggles the mind.
Especially the Mingus album- that’s outer space AFAIC
Amazing! Can you please make a PDF of this lesson?
Sounds like it's from the future!!
BEST UA-cam CHANNEL!!!
Wow, I am impressed!
So inspiring!!!
Thank you. Nice idea...
(Thanks also, BTW, for the overhead view of the keyboard and hand placement. (Cadet status at the piano here, trying to self teach.)
Has a Russell Ferrante and Yellowjackets vibe. Great content!
This is really useful stuff!
Rick, you're amazing!
Just great!.
I love this video!
I really like the tempo/speed shifts in the solo. Cool piece, Rick
This is fantastic. For those playing along at home and in addition to what Rick is talking about, I totally recommend Dave Stewart's books Inside the Music and Reading and Writing Music, which cover these kinds of harmonic concepts in greater detail.
really awesome how you captured in this video (and ultra and mega arpeggios) the modern progressive sounds in heard in today's music, be it jazz, metal and other genres :)
Yes!! Thanks Rick!
next level stuff. Dude thanks. Now I know what 'Take 6' did.
Wow, wasn't expecting the progressive jazz/fusion sound when all the instruments came in... Great stuff!
Great! thank you very much
I've always liked that sound a lot. The first place I can specifically remember hearing it was on a Todd Rundgren record (Initiation.) I use that family of voicings all the time.
