This is my current winner.
To be fair Italy could have sent a lot of other songs and they would have been my top pick now as well - but this WAS my most favorite by a hair. Sanremo was simply awesome this year.
She’s a great performer/singer and I love her style. This is incredibly catchy.

Italy doesn't choose whom to send to Eurovision. The winner of Sanremo automatically gets the privilege of going to Eurovision, if they wish. But Sanremo is not the contest to go to Eurovision, it's a contest on its own that was born before Eurovision and made the history of Italian pop music. Generally speaking, Italians care more about Sanremo than Eurovision, although Eurovision has become more popular since Mahmood got 2nd place with Soldi. But yea, all this just to say that singers of Italy go to Sanremo and we vote for the best song. As a side effect, the winner of Sanremo can choose to go to Eurovision, otherwise the choice is given to 2nd place.
But I agree that the live performance was better than the music video, it shows more her charisma and the spontaneous singing and dancing

I’m well aware that some may not want to and can choose not to go, but also… more often than not the winner will go. And the representative is always, always someone from the top.
This is in actuality not very different from many selections around Europe when you think about it. Other runners up have been sent, although not frequently. Also, in other countries artists who do not actually want to win take part, simple for the exposure and/or the experience.
So “choose” - in my opinion - is a perfectly good choice of word.
I don’t know why you think it’s worth trying to school me on this but it comes across quite condescending. I’m not here for it, it’s like the grammar police - and you’re not the first to complain.
Just take the compliment and stop the nitpicking.
Italy should be given the privilege to send two to three entries each year - Italia A, B, and C. lmao!

What the protagonists of the video don't understand, not knowing southern Italian culture and not understanding the lyrics of the song, is that it represents entire summer afternoons spent doing nothing, except on a metaphorical level braids. I just adore this song and this performer called Angelina Mango. This is true Eurovision Classic already. And she actually takes the song even better level live. This is already right now one of my favorites of Eurovision Song Contest like all time. So many actual musical hits in this song. It is unique. Love you Italy!
I watched San Remo live and she was amazing…. Just her on the stage,performing and she sang AND danced. It was a strong year and she was the stand out! Thanks for a great review. You all do you and the UA-cam world is all the greater for it!

Per capire chi e Angelina, vi consiglio di dare un'occhiata anche alla canzone che ha presentato alla quarta serata quella delle cover "la rondine", scritta dal padre Pino nel 2002 e a Lui dedicata.
Angelina in realtà è figlia d'arte sia da parte di papà Pino Mango (morto purtroppo all'improvviso nel 2014), sia da parte di mamma Laura Valente.

The music is based on "Cumbia", a colombian/indian folkdance and music from the 1500 most used to chase away the grief and sorrow... so she sing "The Cumbia of the boredom"... Cumbia nowdays is a very popular music in latinamerica. This song is a fusion of tecnopop, urbanlatin, rap, italian and classic music... you can even hear that they use "Glockenspiel " just before the "a capella" piece. You should also know that the lyrics of the song really are the story of Angelinas own life and childhood...
Cumbia was one of the only words I could really pick out in the song but I assumed I was just mishearing. Good to know I wasn't insane.

The thing about her having her hair pinned up with clothespins is a way of telling the rest of us how hard it can be to break free…. As for the last scene where she stands in the middle surrounded by a nun, an elderly woman (grandmother), sisters and her girlfriends is to describe the mentality that still exists in the southern parts of Italy, mainly in the smaller towns and villages there she herself grew up. It's all about how hard it is to get out of all this mentality that tells you how to behave and stick to old traditions. She doesn't want that and says that we all have to try to live our lives by mainly pleasing ourselves and not others...

Likes her Live performance even more, and when you also get the backstory that she lost here dad when he as a famous Italian singer performed on stage and she was sitting in the audience 13 years old and he suddenly dies on stage in a heart attack. And that she wrote this song about boredom how it is the hardest time when you have lost someone because that’s the time when the memories and emotions come back.

when you have Madame *AND* Dardust working on your song/production, it is gonna be one helluva masterpeice. THrow in Angelina's flavor invoking her deep southern Italian roots (Basilicata) and Balkan flavor overlaying a CUMBIA rhythm ( from Colombia), and it is truly one of the single most impressive songs Ive ever hear for ESC. The song is autobiographical and Angelina tells how she faced and learned to accept the trauma due to her father's death. She has learned to live with “la noia”/boredom (i.e. depression, feeling of emptiness) and has understood that it is worth living and accepting pain because it makes the joys that you previously took for granted more appreciable. Cumbia was chosen because it was originally used to chase away sorrow and grief so it is perfect to better illustrate Angelina's state of mind, who dances with her pain instead of suppressing it or being destroyed by it. From that point of view Angelina is never alone on stage while she dances and sings, “la noia” is her partner.

This song is about boredom(la noia),but it's not imperative to look bored while listening to it.
The meaning of the song is autobiographical, she says she carries her traumas with her (she lost her father when she was 13 years old, he was a famous Italian singer who had a heart attack during one of her concerts), suffering makes one appreciate the joys more. We need to accept the ups and downs of life and fight boredom as suffering by always staying active, we need to use these moments in a positive way even if only to reflect on our lives and not remain passive to the point of depression, so the cumbia dance of noia(boredom) is like an invitation to a party to always look for something that makes us feel good.

This song is a mixture of different styles such as Latin American, Spanish and Arabic... it is not particularly "scenic" but it is certainly of great quality and can be appreciated by listening to it many times...

At first listening it's hard when you have all the instrumentation in your headphones, and the official video is not joyful as the live performance we all know well
Since you like meaningful lyrics, you will like her song then.
Background fact: she's the daughter of a famous Italian singer, who died of heart attack on stage when she was 12 (she was present at the performance). She even sang a cover of her father's song in the night dedicated to cover songs.

That's because Rai, the national broadcaster, posted the worst performance our of 4 times she sang, she danced all along so what you poibt out is easily explainable however all the other performancea she had a much better control. Angelina is a well trained singer, she's been doing it since she was a little girl and she has excellent technique, the 2nd night she sounded to be a bit out of breath it could happens to any singer while dancing, what's unexplicable is why zrai chose the video of that very night.🤨
