Well, of course...there is a reason for which US carriers did not come in the range of the guns of battleship Yamato in the Battle for the Pacific...but still managed to send the most powerfull batleships ever constructed, to the bottom of the ocean.
Yes, but as a concept, battleships were always vulnerable to fighters. And historically speaking, carriers have sent the most powerfull battleships ever build to the bottom of the ocean. That is why you don't see battleships in today navies, but you see carriers instead. This is the RL equivalent of Asgard vs Raptor: ua-cam.com/video/3FDZ4Q6op98/v-deo.html.
Just equip the Asgard with M flak cannon. And L beam. All those fighters are done. Or M repeater. And bring some MK2 tower laser. Than directly charge for the carrier. 1 shot with ATF it would be done.
@@dogeknight8550 Are you sure? These are my Chimeras against a full flak Raptor: ua-cam.com/video/r7RcpwmCpBM/v-deo.html 100 flak, the most powerfull anti-fighter platform in the game...did exactly squat :D M repeater...ua-cam.com/video/3Eu8TJbxZqw/v-deo.html not exactly the paragon of anti fighter efficiency, if you ask me :D And charging for the carrier...hmm, you know, what I just "love" about the Asgard is...if just one xenon N fire at it = no travel drive :D And the time required for the travel drive?...by the time the Asgard go in travel drive, I think my Chimera wings can destroy it...twice :))
@@ragnos28 dont forget the asgard also can store 40 ships. 3s docks, and 1 m dock. the asgard can easily defend itself against fighter. not too mention terran shield held more "HP" than any faction and terran hul also higher than most faction. what can raptor do when asgard got close enough for its main weapon to fire? 100 flak means nothing, just dont send the fighter attack raptor make it defend the asgard. in your video the asgard dont have any excort or fighter stored.
@@dogeknight8550 Did you ever tried in game, to launch 40 fighters from the Asgard? How long did that took? And that is was one of my earliest attemp to use Raptor based Chimera, now I have a wing of 60 torpedo Chimera on atack and 40 smart missile Chimera on intercept. Forget the Asgard, that is xenon sector annihilation configuration :D And compared to Chimera, any terran fighter is a joke as fire power is concern. And if you going to say...but mah terran shields...yeah but I would say 500m/s speed and 4 gatling guns in any configuration for Chimera. Asgard to get closed enough to engage the Raptor...to give you an idea, take a look at what happen when RL "Raptor" atack an "Asgard": ua-cam.com/video/3FDZ4Q6op98/v-deo.html. Why do you think the battleship Yamato did not got close enough to sink the US carriers? Really, is a no brainer, range of ATF main battery...12 maybe 13 km?..range of launch Chimeras....the universe!? PS: I use both ships, so I know what they can do and what they cannot do. The Asgard AA defence is a joke, that is why my Asgard is always part of a fleet, never alone.
Carriers with a complement of figthers and gunships are no joke. These are the strongest units in X4. It's also a good idea to add some fighters to destroyers like the Phoenix or the Behemoth. Im my experience four Phoenix class destroyers on their own usually are no match for a single K class destroyer. But add some fighters to the Phoenixes and it's a different story.
He he, that was an early stage in my use of carriers. Since then, I have experimented with torpedo launchers on the Chimera. Now my Raptor has 60 torpedo equipped Chimera on atack and 40 missile equipped Chimera on intercept and can depopulate xenon sector by it self 😁(have a clip of that as well 😋). The only thing the Raptor can't do is to destroy stations, for that I bring my Asgard 🙂 It is true that you can add fighters to destroyers, but you need the auto-repair function of the carriers (especially, with the explosion dmg mechanic) and also lauching and landing fighters is much faster with a carrier. No, destroyers are better suited in bombarding stations, imo, and I tend to use them for that role.
Also one important fact to note: The Asgard has 42 slots for docked ships aswell. That's almost half that of the Raptor. Therefore this fight REALLY wasn't fair.
Launching fighters from the Asgard (or any destroyer) is a ludacris long process and highly impractical, as anyone who has done it in high attention, knows. I did it: ua-cam.com/video/j8Yev3qhHS4/v-deo.html. Check out the amazing launching speed... - time for the Asgard to launch 40 fighters: 2 min 44 sec - time for the Raptor to launch 100 fighters: 1 min 55 sec And another thing, that is was one of my earliest attemp to use Raptor based Chimera, now I have a wing of 60 torpedo Chimera on atack and 40 smart missile Chimera on intercept. Also, terran fighters have zero chance against 4 gatling and 500 m/s speed Chimeras. So, sry, but after the radar was invented (or in the case of X4, the map), batleships will have zero chances against carriers with fighter complement. Already, since ToA, even VIG torpedo using fighters can turn your Asgard to dust, if there is enough of them, and by enough I mean about 16 of them.
I found that video very entertaining ! - and I'm an X4 player myself. What if you give the Asgard a strike group of medium turret gunships to help mitigate the fighters better and deploy everything before the battle starts ? I mean my Asgard is never by itself. Also, since you gave the Raptor his full potential you should probably allow Asgard to fire his main gun. It's still 1:1 battle with everything either ship can carry so it wouldnt be unfair - at least based on your own rules.
Hi and thank you for the sub 🙂 On the question of battleships vs carriers, I get my cues from the naval battles in ww2, Battle of the Pacific, to be exact. If you look at stats of the battleship Yamato, for example vs the stats of an US carrier, you can go...yeap, one artilery salvo from the battleship and is bye bye carrier. However, planes from the US carriers have sent all imperial navy battleships to the bottom of the ocean. That was the moment when carriers become the "queens" of the maritime battlefield, while battleships become obsolete. So historicly speaking, battleships were always vulnerable/not effective against fighters and the armchair admiral in me, is happy that X4 apply that logic 😋 And yes, my Asgard is never alone, as well. I did the solo Asgard thing (check my other videos) and was really frustated that I could not take out that xenon K at 50 km away because I keep getting out of travel drive because the "mighty" xenon N keep pew pew me 🤨 Or that I was taking fire from multiple Xenon K in closed proximity while I was waiting for my main gun to cool off...and start thinking...hmm, maybe something is missing 🤔 That is why my terran fleet is composed like: 1 Asgard 3 Syn + 3 Osaka on defend 2 Tokyo + 40 Kalis each on intercenpt 1 Aux ship + 20 gunboats Jian on defend and 20 torpedo boats on atack as a counterpart to this fleet, my Raptor has 60 torpedo equip Chimeras on atack and 40 missile equipt Chimeras on intercept (4 neutron gatling + 1 torpedo/1 missile launcher). My terran fleet is my "hammer" demolition fleet for taking out stations while my Raptor fleet is my "sword" fleet for taking out enemy fleets. I also equip my Raptor to be a "real" carrier, w/o battleship wannabe ambitions, beam instead of plasma on L turetts and split flak (so I could be race specific in my equipment), everywere else.
@@xXFeralArtsXx Ohh...definitely 🙂 Just check my Asgard one shot Xenon I video: ua-cam.com/video/XdZguaNg5X4/v-deo.html 😁 In the AI hands not so much. I did not try to take an Asgard with a Rattlesnake for example, but I did the travel drive behind, target the engine, target the most menacing turetts that can fire at me, then let it rip, with my Rattlesnake against an I and a K and it was hilarios 😅 I might try that against an Asgard, maybe the subject for my next video 😉
@@almasalexalmasalex I have seen WoW, nice concept, not so keen on the graphics 🙂 No, as far as I know, US carriers did not have 3 times more fighters that the imperial japan fighters, but after the japanese forces lost their carriers, the battle turn out in a shooting gallery for the US and the most powerfull battleship ever constructed become an glorified paperweight. That is why carriers are now such a big part of modern navies. In X4, just like in RL, a battleship w/o fighter escorts is a dead battleship. I see your point about the number of fighters, 40 against 40 would be fairer fight, even tho, like I told you, Chimeras would tear Kukris apart. Besides, the saving grace for the Raptor, IS the 100 Chimera it can carry, because if it would not have that capability, the Raptor would have been a mediocre carrier, because it is slow to launch its fighters. In that regard an Colossus, for example, would have been a much better option with its almost instantaneous fighter deployment. Plus, if I put torpedo launchers on my fighters, things would go something like this: ua-cam.com/video/sVmfpBL_PBM/v-deo.html A Chimera with 4 gatling and 1 torpedo launcher is a beast, equally effective against small fry and capital ships, add to that the MK4 engines and these little pest become really hard to hit 😋 Don't get me wrong, I use and like both ships. The Asgard is my "hammer" to bring down stations and the Raptor is my "sword" to clear sectors of enemy ships. 🙂
What I'm loving in is the message in the corner, "Loss of Reputation" 29. Yeah blowing someone's Battleship to hell in a hand basket is not going to endear them to you.
Actually, that's the remaining reputation, it went from +30 to +29. 🤤 At high reputation, you basically get away with everything, One could capture the Asgard, and then show up to a terran shipyard for repairs...and they still be "honored" to meet you. 🤪
Depends...if a player fly the Raptor, just travel drive behind it and target the engine with the L plasma turetts or even fly paralel to it with it and start broadside duel, Asgard beams vs Raptor plasma. So, is possible. However, being the armchair admiral that I am, I would remember that US navy carriers did not exchange battery fire with the Yamato battleship in the Battle for the Pacific :P
Hello, new subscriber here. Question, what was your weapon load out on the Chimera's? I have one helluva time trying to figure out what the best load outs are. In my experience, "High Preset" when buying ships isn't always the best as far as weapons go. On high, I get some sort of beam weapon that doesn't gimble, and you get ONE shot before it has to cool down.
Hey Gary, appreciate the sub. Nothing fancy about my Chimera loadout, 4 neutron gatling + 1 torpedo launcher for bombers (wing of 60), or + 1 tracking launcher for interceptors (wing of 40). The beam thing is called boson lance, good weapon but only OOS, and usually what you get on high preset, not so great in high attention.
@@ragnos28 Well, even if on paper, those gatlings aren't as good as those boson lance's, they sure look and sound like you're shredding the ever loving sh*t out of the enemy with them!! 😊 Thanks for the info!
Perhaps, is just that in my tests, Dragons have demostrated such a low survivability rate in any role, interceptor or bomber, that I never use them in any fleet.
@@Dreez76 The only M ship in the game that I was able to use successfully as a bomber is the boron Hydra. I don't know why exactly, maybe is the shape, maybe is the speed, maybe the other stats. But all my other "20 M ships vs xenon K" tests on the channel were unsatisfactory, losing about 2 in average against a single K, no matter if they were corvettes or frigates. Maybe because of the habit of having full speed in the bombing run, then linger around the K, while they try to reacquire the target. I say that only the (fast) fighters have the shape and the agility to have good performance as bombers, with the Hydra exception. That being said, I have heard about a tactic that involved recalling the bomber M ships after they fire they initial voley, but that involves way to much micro for my taste. And that is a micro that I don't require with fighters. I even had a successful test of 8 torpedo Irukandji vs a xenon K, that provide me with one more reason to not involve M ships in bombing role, unless there was some emergency.
For a Battleship its offensive and defensive capabilities ate pretty much underwhelming, while beam lasers ate pretty much cool im a sense when looking at those uninterrupted beam of light and heat stroking across space but they are very small and decent, it's better to have.a mox or beam/pulse/burst lasers complimented by rows or particle pulse turrets for defense while having small and numerous plasma turrets for anti-air then having sets of big anti-capital laser turrets or particle accelerator beam or kinetic mass accelerated cannons.
I fucking love raptor man. Say, I'm new to this game but can fighters resupply their missile/torpedo from the raptor? How tho? And can they repair the self in the raptors? Or do you manually restock and repair them in wharfs? I just bought my first raptor but I don't know if I'm utilizing it properly
You have good taste in ships:) Get your Raptor to some FRF EQ or shipyard and put split flak on the M turetts (you can use argon ones, but why not keep it race specific) and it will become an anti-fighter beast :D On your fighter question, fighters will auto repair if they are asign to your Raptor (I have 60 torpedo Chimera on atack and 40 missile Chimera on intercept) if your general supply is set on very high. Sadly, the resources the Raptor can carry, are not sufficient to resupply your fighters ammo, so that will have to be done at EQ or Wharfs (preferably yours, as the rearming can be expensive and, most of the time, the factions will run out of materials). And the bad news will not stop here, as the Egosoft, in their wisdom, did not consider to give the player the option to mass equiped ships and you will have to do this one by one :( Your Chimera can hold about 20 torpedoes (4 gatling + 1 torpedo launcher config) so you are good for about 5-6 engagements, but after that is back to the wharf. Rocking a Raptor + Chimeras with torpedoes/missiles is a hell of fun, but one must suffer for it :P Some ppl bypass that by using ion blasters instead of torpedoes and missiles, but for me, no boom = no fun :D
That is only until you get your first self-suficient wharf. Usually, that just mean to atach a S/M fabrication module to your HQ, that has productions modules anyway (and all those can be hacked for free). In that moment, the costs will be....a few clicks of the mouse? 🤔 Sure, you can board the battleship (and the carrier for that matter), but try to build it, then you will see costs.
The Asgard would stand a better chance if it surprised the Carrier. It needs to get the lance in range, and it needs to kill the Carrier as fast as possible. At a range, with a fair engagement, there's no real way to win against a Carrier, the bulldozer really needs that surprise crit to win.
Exactly. 🤓 And insta launch carriers are even more deadly. This is a "surprised" Zeus: ua-cam.com/video/0mnnf3SRAFQ/v-deo.html.😮 Really, is a tactical no brainer, that many small bombers > really big guns.
I was about to make a post wondering what the outcome would be if the Asgard was being actively screened by a robust combat air patrol (either from an allied carrier or preemptively deployed from its own hangars), but then I realized that kind of doctrine only really makes sense if you have a chance at "one shot, one kill" effectiveness against opposing bombers. And thanks to every single ship in the X universe having at least SOME shields (nvmnd the Split's being significantly worse than everyone else's), it doesn't seem like there is literally ANY counter to an even moderately-sized bomber swarm, not even a comparably-sized fighter swarm. Does that sound accurate?
Chimeras are among the fastest heavy fighters in the game, so is not easy feat to intercept them. Plus, since this clip was made, my Raptor have 60 Torpedo Chimera + 40 interceptor Chimera complement. Even if I flew the Asgard, I don't like my chances against an AI force of that magnitude and fire power. Players should be thankfull that the factions don't use torpedoes in large numbers. 😉 As for forces that an Asgard can deploy, terran fighters are slow and with few hard points. They are bad interceptors, to the point that my terran fleet use 80 (Kalis), while CW fleet get by with just 40 interceptors.
I find pulse turrets "especially terran L version, Higher projectile speed and damage" to be more effective than the beam turrets, even more so if modded. the beams just dont do enough damage to be bothered with. Why are vanilla turrets so few and so bad :/
The best combo I have found for my Asgard (and Syn) is 50% beam (to aggro and focus targets) + 50 % bolt (to kill the target). L pulse is a good turret modded, but w/o mods is a bit too much "miss city" for my taste.
@@ragnos28 Strange are you sure? it has been a long time since I played but when I tested different turrets I found the L sized bolt missing a lot more and doing worse against fighters then the pulse, Projectile speed on L bolt:1,288m/s. and Lpulse: 2,449m/s, of course the pulse missed aswell but not nearly as much for me. I'll try again next time I boot up the game, I really prefer the look of bolt's over pulse so here's hoping :) The bolt spews a lot more bullets for sure but most of them didn't reach the target
@@ragnos28 I just realized I actually watched that one now that you linked it, Been through to many videos lately that my brain turned to mush '^^. But nice I'll do the switch next time I play then, thank you :)
I don't think you understand the concept of carriers. In short, for a carrier, fighters serve the same role as turetts, they are part of the ship capabilities. in RL, when carriers engage battleships, they don't exchange battery fire, they launch their stored fighter complement. So, you are gone tell me that is a great surprise for you that a carrier will launch fighters to atack a target?
@@ChristianGabrielC Yes, because of the number of fighters it can deploy. For example, US carriers are considered the best in the world because they can carry more fighters that any other nation carrier variant. My Raptor have a complement of 60 torpedo Chimera and 40 missile Chimera, that can clear a xenon sector, which I did: ua-cam.com/video/ccNBsTc8hzo/v-deo.html Also, putting flak on all M turetts, make it an anti-fighter beast. I only wish ES did not make the Raptor a destroyer wannabe that confuse a lot of players as of the role of the Raptor. I enjoy carrier play very much and, as a result, I don't put any anti-capital weapon on it, just beam on L turetts and split flak everywere else and let the fighters do the serious damage, like all carriers do.
Well, about anyone familiar with X4 know that the Raptor is a carrier. And carriers have a long history of not engaging battleships w/o their fighter escort, so I thought that is self evident that carriers in X4 will follow the same MO.🤓
@@ragnos28 you act like the raptor doesnt have many more turrets which the ai uses the most in cap ship combat, also the "carriers have a long history.." part made me laugh. i just wanted to see a fair fight , i guess not here
@@Nathan_Yahoo I'm not one of those that use the Raptor as a destroyer, with L plasma and stuff. I use the Raptor as a carrier, namely using its fighter complement to engage heavy targets...FYI this is how carriers operate, you can google the term "aircraft carrier" if you don't belive me.
It may be hard to test, but what about a cost equivalent battle? Iirc you said you equipped over 60 chimeras with mk4 engines which are rather expensive correct? That on top of the expenses of the raptor itself and it could be plausible youd outcost the asgard several times over
With the arrival of the boron, some very cost effective ships were introduced. Like so: ua-cam.com/video/HEwJ0hcWByw/v-deo.html. The Shark carrier is about 44kk, 1 torpedo Irukandji is about 1.2 kk with full torp load, 1 interceptor Mako is about 1kk, my Shark have a complement of 40 of each. For comparison, I think the Raptor cost 75kk and 1 Chimera is about 5kk. And the Shark have instant launch of fighters and shields that can stand the initial blast of the Asgard main, so like, zero weaknesses aganst the Asgard. So, if I would make cost equivalent battles, my bet is on the Shark and friends.🤑
@@ragnos28 Well, tbf, the boron destroyer can also slow the asgard so it couldn't even get close lol so the boron seems to counter the asgard pretty heavily. As for the raptor, even just sixty of the chimeras would be 300 million which is like a lot, I dunno for sure how expensive the asgard is, but my guess is it's probably half that at most
@@CreeperDude-cm1wv In the case of the Asgard, one must keep in mind that, if the player don't board it, the only way to get it, is to build it himself. With the cost of shipyard BP, the Asgard BP, its components BPs, resources required, the actual cost of the Asgard can go sky high (that is actually how I got my Asgard, hardcore mode 😁). In that time, the player can just waltz to a split shipyard and just order the Raptor. Sure, the shipyard may lack resources and the player must "feed" it, but the resources being bought also bring profit to the player. Bonus, the Raptor can also be borded, one would still need the means to produce the fighters tho. As for the boron, 40 torpedo Irukandji would cost about 45kk, and that wing could trash billions worth of Asgards.🤔And boron economy seem to be strong, so would actually have the resources to fulfill the build order.
Depends of the distance and fighters launched. Against the Raptor before fighters are launched? Sure. After fighters fitted for anti cap work (torps or BM, my current config is 60 Chimera with 1 torp launcher) are deployed? Nope. On the same principle, the Raptor will lose against any carrier with instant launch of fighters bombers. The Asgard as well.
I've heard a lot of good things about VRO mod:) Check the trailer clip and it look amazing. The problem is that I'm an avid vanilla player, but that might change in the future, lol.
Sorry friend, I don't speak russian but thank God for google translate 😋 Ok let's see. On the point of the 40 fighters that the Asgard can carry, - the AI don't use fighters on board of the Asgard, not my fault, nothing I can do about it 🙃 - even if the Asgard would have the 40 fighters, I doubt many fighters would have launch by the time my 100 Chimera "zerg out" from the Raptor's mouth. Besides Chimera is one of the most heavily armed fighters and kukri (the most likely escort for terran capitals) is one of the weakest fighters. It would have been no contest, 100 Chimera vs 40 kukri...would not end well for the terrans. On the point of Asgard not having argon flak. No no, let's keep it terran tech, after all I keep it split tech 😋I did have a fight against a flak equipped Raptor, the most powerfull anti-fighter platform in the game and it went something like that: ua-cam.com/video/r7RcpwmCpBM/v-deo.html, I doubt that a flak equipped Asgard would have fare any better. On the subject of what if player would control both ships. There is discution...there are many variants here. If the contestants were to be spawn in an arena, lets say some 10 km away, yeah..the Raptor would be dead. If they are spawn at 50 km away and the Raptor has time to launch some fighters..is bye bye Asgard. Fighters that pew pew = no travel drive. That is one scenario, in another scenario, my Raptor travel drive behind the Asgard, target the engine and the Asgard will become a giant paperweight, so basically would be a "travel drive duel" 😀To be fair, if I would have an multiplayer duel againts an Asgard, I would chose an Rattlesnake as my ship of choice, sure one salvo of the Asgard would kill me, but, from my experience a Rattlesnake in travel drive, is dificult to snipe. 🙂

@@ragnos28 "resupply - there is no option" I unno...option is there for a while now... I attached a Nomad to resupply the fleet and outfit the Raptor stores with missile components and such. Seems to work fine for me...though can get amusing when a newly attached squadron that has been on the line for a while is told to go attack something and they beeline it to resupply first... Nomads are like the backbone portable docks with the ability to jettison 8 Mk2 Laser towers at once 2 M/S docks and a single L pier. Yes, plus after, I have switch some Chimera (about 60 of them) to torpedoes. The age of the batteships was over, the age of the carriers, as the queens of fleet combat, has begun :P
The comparison is as strange as possible. Asgard, like the battleships of World War II, is not designed to fight aircraft carriers. with an equal group of interceptors, and provided that the raptor could not escape forever, the result would have been different.
Not as strange as one might thing. 🤔 It was quite a big discussion on Egosoft forums, at that time. To quote a comment: "In what world does a Raptor hold a candle to the Asgard?" Well, this is me holding the "candle". 😁
irrelevant, most of the time, the fighters on AI controled carriers don't launch, because of the bug that cause fighters assign to carriers to have auto dock orders. And the AI don't have the player's "resume duties" command. Also nice "terran" flak and "terran" plasma...one might say that is a cheap exploit. 🤔 I think it will take no more that 16 Chimera with 1 torpedo launcher to kill an AI controled Asgard...and those can be launched long before the Asgard even enter radar range. PS: I'm thinking of a test...my AI controled Raptor with 60 torpedo Chimera on bombard + 40 intercept Chimera vs AI controled Asgard, range 20 km...I wonder who would win 🤔 Any bets? 😉

Actually the result of Asgard vs Raptor fight is very simple. Anyone who player controls will win the fight without any difficulty.
These are my Chimeras against a full flak Raptor: ua-cam.com/video/r7RcpwmCpBM/v-deo.html 100 flak, the most powerfull anti-fighter platform in the game...did exactly squat :D
M repeater...ua-cam.com/video/3Eu8TJbxZqw/v-deo.html not exactly the paragon of anti fighter efficiency, if you ask me :D
And charging for the carrier...hmm, you know, what I just "love" about the Asgard is...if just one xenon N fire at it = no travel drive :D And the time required for the travel drive?...by the time the Asgard go in travel drive, I think my Chimera wings can destroy it...twice :))
The only thing the Raptor can't do is to destroy stations, for that I bring my Asgard 🙂
It is true that you can add fighters to destroyers, but you need the auto-repair function of the carriers (especially, with the explosion dmg mechanic) and also lauching and landing fighters is much faster with a carrier. No, destroyers are better suited in bombarding stations, imo, and I tend to use them for that role.
This game is so fucking cool dude.
Also one important fact to note:
The Asgard has 42 slots for docked ships aswell.
- time for the Asgard to launch 40 fighters: 2 min 44 sec
- time for the Raptor to launch 100 fighters: 1 min 55 sec
And another thing, that is was one of my earliest attemp to use Raptor based Chimera, now I have a wing of 60 torpedo Chimera on atack and 40 smart missile Chimera on intercept.
Hi and thank you for the sub 🙂
On the question of battleships vs carriers, I get my cues from the naval battles in ww2, Battle of the Pacific, to be exact. So historicly speaking, battleships were always vulnerable/not effective against fighters and the armchair admiral in me, is happy that X4 apply that logic 😋
And yes, my Asgard is never alone, as well. I did the solo Asgard thing (check my other videos) and was really frustated that I could not take out that xenon K at 50 km away because I keep getting out of travel drive because the "mighty" xenon N keep pew pew me 🤨 Or that I was taking fire from multiple Xenon K in closed proximity while I was waiting for my main gun to cool off...and start thinking...hmm, maybe something is missing 🤔
That is why my terran fleet is composed like:
1 Asgard
3 Syn + 3 Osaka on defend
2 Tokyo + 40 Kalis each on intercenpt
1 Aux ship + 20 gunboats Jian on defend and 20 torpedo boats on atack
as a counterpart to this fleet, my Raptor has 60 torpedo equip Chimeras on atack and 40 missile equipt Chimeras on intercept (4 neutron gatling + 1 torpedo/1 missile launcher).
Tbh if Asgard can fire its main cannon it melts every ship, ESPECIALLY a carrier. :D
In the AI hands not so much.
@@almasalexalmasalex I have seen WoW, nice concept, not so keen on the graphics 🙂
No, as far as I know, US carriers did not have 3 times more fighters that the imperial japan fighters, but after the japanese forces lost their carriers, the battle turn out in a shooting gallery for the US and the most powerfull battleship ever constructed become an glorified paperweight.
Plus, if I put torpedo launchers on my fighters, things would go something like this: ua-cam.com/video/sVmfpBL_PBM/v-deo.html A Chimera with 4 gatling and 1 torpedo launcher is a beast, equally effective against small fry and capital ships, add to that the MK4 engines and these little pest become really hard to hit 😋
Don't get me wrong, I use and like both ships.
At high reputation, you basically get away with everything, One could capture the Asgard, and then show up to a terran shipyard for repairs...and they still be "honored" to meet you. 🤪

But can a raptor with no fighters beat an asgard with no fighters?
Depends...if a player fly the Raptor, just travel drive behind it and target the engine with the L plasma turetts or even fly paralel to it with it and start broadside duel, Asgard beams vs Raptor plasma. So, is possible. However, being the armchair admiral that I am, I would remember that US navy carriers did not exchange battery fire with the Yamato battleship in the Battle for the Pacific :P
someone should try it :)
NOPE
That was amazing.

One squadron of Dragon torpedo bombers and that Asgard would've died almost instantly.
Perhaps, is just that in my tests, Dragons have demostrated such a low survivability rate in any role, interceptor or bomber, that I never use them in any fleet.
@@ragnos28 Depends. I send them purely against large dangerous targets, then call them back once the job is done.
You have good taste in ships:) Get your Raptor to some FRF EQ or shipyard and put split flak on the M turetts (you can use argon ones, but why not keep it race specific) and it will become an anti-fighter beast :D
On your fighter question, fighters will auto repair if they are asign to your Raptor (I have 60 torpedo Chimera on atack and 40 missile Chimera on intercept) if your general supply is set on very high.
Carrier with full of fighters is more expensive than a battleship.
It also cost more everytime your fighters get taken down.
That is only until you get your first self-suficient wharf. Usually, that just mean to atach a S/M fabrication module to your HQ, that has productions modules anyway (and all those can be hacked for free). In that moment, the costs will be....a few clicks of the mouse? 🤔
Sure, you can board the battleship (and the carrier for that matter), but try to build it, then you will see costs.
The Asgard would stand a better chance if it surprised the Carrier. It needs to get the lance in range, and it needs to kill the Carrier as fast as possible. At a range, with a fair engagement, there's no real way to win against a Carrier, the bulldozer really needs that surprise crit to win.
Exactly. 🤓
And insta launch carriers are even more deadly. This is a "surprised" Zeus: ua-cam.com/video/0mnnf3SRAFQ/v-deo.html.😮
Really, is a tactical no brainer, that many small bombers > really big guns.
Fighter swarm>all
I was about to make a post wondering what the outcome would be if the Asgard was being actively screened by a robust combat air patrol (either from an allied carrier or preemptively deployed from its own hangars), but then I realized that kind of doctrine only really makes sense if you have a chance at "one shot, one kill" effectiveness against opposing bombers.
As for forces that an Asgard can deploy, terran fighters are slow and with few hard points.
I'll try again next time I boot up the game, I really prefer the look of bolt's over pulse so here's hoping :)
The bolt spews a lot more bullets for sure but most of them didn't reach the target

so a carrier loadout of S+M ships vs Asgard ... NOT Raptor vs Asgard
@@ragnos28 totally valid point. so the raptor would be the strongest carrier available?
I enjoy carrier play very much and, as a result, I don't put any anti-capital weapon on it, just beam on L turetts and split flak everywere else and let the fighters do the serious damage, like all carriers do.
title should be raptor and 100 chimeras vs asgard
Well, about anyone familiar with X4 know that the Raptor is a carrier. And carriers have a long history of not engaging battleships w/o their fighter escort, so I thought that is self evident that carriers in X4 will follow the same MO.🤓

Well, tbf, the boron destroyer can also slow the asgard so it couldn't even get close lol so the boron seems to counter the asgard pretty heavily.
As for the boron, 40 torpedo Irukandji would cost about 45kk, and that wing could trash billions worth of Asgards.🤔And boron economy seem to be strong, so would actually have the resources to fulfill the build order.
i wonder if the asgard has a chance if its player controlled
Depends of the distance and fighters launched. Against the Raptor before fighters are launched? Sure. After fighters fitted for anti cap work (torps or BM, my current config is 60 Chimera with 1 torp launcher) are deployed? Nope.
On the same principle, the Raptor will lose against any carrier with instant launch of fighters bombers. The Asgard as well.

Sorry friend, I don't speak russian but thank God for google translate 😋
Ok let's see.
On the point of the 40 fighters that the Asgard can carry,
- the AI don't use fighters on board of the Asgard, not my fault, nothing I can do about it 🙃
- even if the Asgard would have the 40 fighters, I doubt many fighters would have launch by the time my 100 Chimera "zerg out" from the Raptor's mouth.

Buy the DLC first of course. And if you're playing as other faction you can't buy from Terran shipyard. It has to be constructed by your own. Which mean you need plenty of money to build your shipyard and buying all the blueprints needed for construction.

irrelevant, most of the time, the fighters on AI controled carriers don't launch, because of the bug that cause fighters assign to carriers to have auto dock orders. And the AI don't have the player's "resume duties" command.
Also nice "terran" flak and "terran" plasma...one might say that is a cheap exploit. 🤔
I think it will take no more that 16 Chimera with 1 torpedo launcher to kill an AI controled Asgard...and those can be launched long before the Asgard even enter radar range.
PS: I'm thinking of a test...my AI controled Raptor with 60 torpedo Chimera on bombard + 40 intercept Chimera vs AI controled Asgard, range 20 km...I wonder who would win 🤔
Any bets? 😉
Misleading click bait
I'm sorry you feel that way :(
Can it be a possibility that you are ignorant to the fact that the Raptor, a carrier for your info, can carry 100 Chimera and use those before mention Chimeras to engage targets?
@@ragnos28 raptor Vs Asgard it did not say raptor + a shot load of fighters v Asgard that had no chance
@@barrysherwood2120 I don't know if you play the game or understand the concept of carriers. For a carrier, fighters serve the same role as turetts, they are part of the ship capabilities. in RL, when carriers engage battleships, they don't exchange battery fire, they launch their stored fighter complement.
I do hope I was successfull in explaining the concept of carriers to you. If not, just put the word "carrier" in a search engine of your chosing for more detailed explanations.
Edit: you might want to use the term "aircraft carrier" for you search, it will help in finding better results.
Asgard should bring its own squadron. Hell it can store 40 ships, 3 S docks and 1 M Dock. Raptor has no chance
@@dogeknight8550 Behold, the "majestic" site of an Asgard launching 40 fighters: ua-cam.com/video/j8Yev3qhHS4/v-deo.html
Some interesting numbers:
- time for the Asgard to launch 40 fighters: 2 min 44 sec
- time for the Raptor to launch 100 fighters: 1 min 55 sec
100 vs 40? I like the Raptor chances :D
Other numbers: 60 torpedo Chimera, my curent anti capital wing for the Raptor: 1 heavy torpedo: detonation output 17.246 MJ, 60 X 17.246 = 1.034.760 MJ dmg on the first salvo.
Yeap, no chance..for the Asgard :D
