Thanks for the tips in your video! Very helpful. I’ve watched all the Tetraken videos awhile ago, but this was a great refresher. All the rubber was replaced in my 246 in 2017-18ish, but I recently was hearing noise in the transport and changing the small belt remedied the issue. I bought several belt kits back in April, so I should be good for a few years I hope! Best regards, Quincy
Hi ... I'm afraid I don't have the "measurements" for the idle tires. When I ordered them, I simply went to eBay and searched. They were listed as "Tascam 244-246 Portastudio Capstan Control Belts and Idler Tires" The description does not have the measurements and the user manual and the service manual does not show the measurements either. I just searched eBay again, and they are still available. The belts and tires are still available in a pack for $15. (I had to order the pinch roller separately.). The eBay pack worked perfectly and is still working a year later. Sorry I can't locate the exact measurements, but if you need them, I'd definitely suggest eBay. (They were new, not old or used).
hi! thanks for your channel! i just replace new belts, new pinch and new idler tires. now i put play and it stops in 5 seconds... on fast forwr and rew the same only 5 seconds. BUT if i keep pushing the play button keep playing but you still hearing the 5 seconds intention to stop.. and the same with rew and fast forw. the counter works on play mode but in rew and fast forw dont show any movement on the counter... can you help me please... sounds goor and very powerfull rewind and fast forrward. it is only that 5 seconds issue. please help thanks for everything!
Hi ... This might be a long shot, but are you sure you don't have a memory location stored, that is causing it to stop at a certain counter number? Make sure you reset, the memory and the zero return stop. Other than that I'm not sure what else to say. I replaced all of my belts, idler tires, and the pinch roller and I thoroughly cleaned the area with alcohol so that nothing would stick and it all worked well (and still does). If it isn't the memory situation, or something related to the counters, I'm just not sure. You might just reach out to Tetrakan who is linked in my description section. He might have a suggestion.
I don’t know why you even bothered to make this video. You didn’t show how anything is done. Talking isn’t showing. I don’t even think you did the repair. You talk a good game but the thing about UA-cam is showing how something is done.
Well, hmmm, ... I can answer your question. The reason I bothered, was for "me" as a future reference, should I be faced with the problem again in the future. That's why I didn't ask anyone to subscribe, comment, like, tip, seek financial support, or anything, like you see on many UA-cam videos. Frankly, I didn't expect anyone to even watch it. I am shocked that it actually has over 2,000 views and has actually helped others, other than me. I was actually pleased when the first commentor said ... "thanks for the tips ... very helpful". Sorry that wasn't your experience. I bought my machine 38 years ago, when I was a young man. I am now almost 70. When the tape transport didn't work, I thought it was over and done. So I watched hours and hours of videos and then took a shot at repairing it myself. Incredibly, I fixed it and it still works beautifully to this day. So "after it was done" (which I mention in the video), I decided to post it with the goal of helping others by explaining the issue, showing which parts to buy, showing how to approach it, show how to access the areas, give a general description as to what had to be done etc. (Not just "talk".... 30 minutes of pictures, videos, and links.) In the video, I pointed to and provided the links 'in the description' to the Tetrakan videos that showed exactly "how it is done." There was no reason for me to reinvent the wheel as Tetrakan had already done it, BUT, I could save the viewer hours and hours of research that I had to go through. So ... the reason I bothered was to serve as a reference to myself in the future, should I have to do it again, and with the hopes that it might possibly help someone who has a the machine and was wondering why it wasn't working and if there was hope to restore it. I was hoping that between my video and the Tetrakan links that I provided that it might help someone. I decided to post it on UA-cam as I felt it was better than what I had when I was confronted with the problem. If, in the end, it actually helped someone, great. If not ... no harm, no foul, it didn't cost the viewer anything. So, if you have the machine, and the problem, and watch and follow the links that I provided, you can probably get the job done and save hours of research time. Anyway ... for what it's worth, that's why I took the time to at least "try" and help someone rather than invest the time in my own repair and not share what I learned along the way.
@@goodcourseproductions5546 thank you for the thorough explanation of your process. I watch hours of videos on repairing and adjustments to the Tascam 30 series. I wasn’t being sarcastic but too many people post videos with no idea of who is watching or how much they know. With that being said, your video was ok.
@@calvinrichardson3562 Thank you for your kind reply. I completely understand. I actually did hesitate from posting it originally as I hadn't filmed my actual repair at the time I did it as I had no intention of doing a UA-cam video.. I was focused on making the repair. When it was done, I thought maybe I could possibly help someone and figured perhaps anything I could do on the subject would be better than nothing and perhaps including the links that I used would fill in the gaps. Thanks for watching.

I'm glad it was of help to you. Good luck. Thank you for watching.
Do you have measurements for the idler tires?
