One of my favorite deep cuts. I don't care that Dave can't sing anymore. Damn, Eddie looked good here. Strong. Healthy. Smiling. That f******g happy, beautiful smile. Damn, this hurts.
@@chrispellicci6587it really is sad. They wasted years and years and fucked up their legacy with the fighting and bullshit and van hagar. I would hate to see them like this. I remember seeing them in the 80s. Better memories to keep. This is just sad and awful
I hate people who rip on Dave's voice, he's never been a great singer, but he's as responsible for VHs success as much as Ed. Lyrics, showmanship, and the swagger. You try singing for over 45 or more years and see how easy it is.
I love ALL VH eras and music... but dude, Dave could never really, "sing" not in the traditional sense, you know? Watch the 1983 US Festival. Showman yes. Screamer yes. Singer, no.
I think in the studio Dave sang great. His voice "prints to tape" amazingly well as Daniel Lanoi would say. The timbre was great. His melodies were great. His whistle scream was amazing. I just think that even with microphones and large p.a , his voice just could not compete with the stage volume of the band and I think this is where possibly most of his live performance problems began. He sounds great on the early bootlegs up until the Fair Warning tour. Add to that excessive drinking, drugging and not sleeping and your voice is toast. Especially an extended baritone voice like Dave's, where some of the main aesthetics where his subtle vibrato, resonance and airiness. He returned to form somewhat on the Eat em and Smile tour and also sang very well on the 2007/2008 tour. Something happened between 2008 and 2012 where he lost his voice. As Eddie's guitar got better as he got his act together, Dave's voice went for a burton.
@@mancuniancandidatem Dave doesn’t seem to understand his strengths here. Awesome song...not sure why Dave trying to sing in a higher register for that song. He just needed to use his talking voice.......still love the video!!
It's because he has destroyed the area in his voice where it goes from chest voice to head voice. For singers with a healthy voice it is usually a note or two where flip happens (usually a squeaky sounding note). The gap is so wide now with Dave in between registers his voice has zero stability or control in the break.
I hear you... but he likely did the best he could (voice-wise), right? As far as not even trying to get parts of the lyrics right, Dave's always done that. I guess I really value a video of Eddie playing this song in 2015, and the only way we were ever going to get that is if Dave "sang" it. Lord knows Sammy would never have wanted to try performing this song, even though he certainly could sing it. If he had trouble with performing Jump, well, that excludes over half the songs on Van Halen's first six albums. Same thing for songs like Romeo Delight and Unchained... heh, Cherone could sing lots of the old VH, check out Mean Streets if you want verification... But who would want Gary back? Not even Gary would want that, talented as Gary is, he didn't fit in VH at all.
Dave shouldn't say "fucking angels" in the song, he's hurting Pasteur Alex's feelings. Now he's going to have to repent for his singer's sins the next time he gives a sermon.
Hey if Dylan can get away with it for his Entire life, why can't Diamond Dave have a well deserved last quarter of the game with his voice a bit diminished

Why the fuck does Roth go into an upper register, out of key, when its totally unecessary. Just sing in the lower register if you cant hit the notes old mate. It leads me to believe he might actually be going deaf and cant hear himself properly
I don’t necessarily buy the idea that Roth’s voice is shot. He’s trying to sing a random-ass melody that’s way higher than the original - of course he sounds like shit. If he’d stick to the damn melody and maybe lower the guitars to D, I don’t think he’d sound half bad.
