  • Footage from the Churnet Valley Railway Steam Gala 2024 of two steam locomotives double heading a heavy seven carriage train, up the notoriously challenging Ipstone's gradient in spectacular fashion, from Leekbrook Junction. I’d recommend turning the volume up for this one :)
The locomotives at the head of the train are a pair of wartime US built S160 locomotives that were shipped over to Europe for help with the war effort and post-war reconstruction in Europe. The locomotives are 6046 and 5197 and are part of the Churnet Valley's home fleet.

For more information on the excellent Churnet Valley Railway, please see their website below. I really would recommend a visit- it's one of the few places where you can see steam locomotives genuinely working hard, it's in a beautiful location and their catering department is also excellent, so it is a great day out:

Are there any future plans of getting to Waterhouses?

No serious plans, however the railway has a much more lucrative extension underway to the market town of Leek, which is basically complete but just needs the paperwork sorting and this could be transformative for the CVR. Thanks for watching!
