Richard van Pukkem In the case of the man's situation I can see where they would make an exception for him. I know some companies can hook into a hydrant for water but they have to have a water meter connected to the hydrant to be legal. From what I can see they didn't connect a meter to the hydrant for his temporary connection so I assume the water department and/or city has allowed for the connection to the hydrant as long as the connection runs to his meter or have decided to just let him have free water because of the issue that has him connected to the hydrant.

captain porkie It would be a lovely city, as it has so much wonderful architecture. Tbh Detroit could actually make a killing off of tourism if they got their shit together -_-.
A bit of history: In the 1950’s, Auto Manufacturers moved into the City of Detroit for the easily obtainable resources and easy shipping routes. However, after the Fuel Crisis in the mid 1970’s, the stock in the automotive industry took a swan dive. Major manufacturers such as AMC and Oldsmobile were forced to either shut their doors completely, or cut back significantly on their models. Into the early 1980’s, despite the dramatic increase in gas and diesel prices, Detroit Automakers were starting to catch on to the newer technologies in Fuel Economy. However, when the prices went up, many factories had to close down, costing thousands in jobs and causing American Automakers to outsource other jobs to the UK and Asia. Into the 1990’s, Detroit was continuing to steadily decline as manufacturers continued to outsource, move to other cities, or shut down entirely. The final nail in the coffin fir the City of Detroit was the 2008 Stock Market Crash, which caused GM, one of the last manufacturers to produce in Detroit, to shut down more than half of its divisions as part of a Bail Out deal from the US Government(it was about $35Billion). Even now, in 2021, Detroit’s economy is on a steady and somewhat scary decline. Perhaps in the next 20 years the city will be a ghost town in its literal meaning.
You can’t blame the government for everything. They have much more important things to focus on than dying buisnesses in Detroit. The city is already bankrupt, just throwing more money at it’s going to do nothing.
@@evanwatling3897 Uhh keeping your cities' economy functioning is probably one of the most important things the government need to be doing. Money would help, just not wasting it. A quick Google seems to show it's standard to have them separate. I know in my home town in Maine, we had 2 separate systems and every year, accounting money got moved from the fire dept. budget to the water dept budget but that was just on paper. I see a mention that it's done that way because they can't have fluoride in fire fighting water but sodium fluoride isn't flammable. Type of pipes maybe? I see mentions in zoning rules and laws that fire protection pipes have to be metal. I know our drinking water mains up in Maine were originally copper with a slow conversion to pvc. They had laid the copper back in the 'teens as part of a Big Deal program.
It could be potentially cheaper for them to use a reclaimed storm-water source rather than from the water dept/treatment facility. I'm sure it just depends on the area and situation and is usually cheaper to just hot tap into the water mains.
