    I thought this was a case of someone hooking into a hydrant illegally until the video started playing.

      Richard van Pukkem In the case of the man's situation I can see where they would make an exception for him. What I was really referring to was a situation where say some has somehow hooked into a hydrant to fill a pool or wash a car or water a lawn or some other situation like that because they don't want to spend more money on their water bill. I know some companies can hook into a hydrant for water but they have to have a water meter connected to the hydrant to be legal. From what I can see they didn't connect a meter to the hydrant for his temporary connection so I assume the water department and/or city has allowed for the connection to the hydrant as long as the connection runs to his meter or have decided to just let him have free water because of the issue that has him connected to the hydrant.

Chemical analysis showed it was similar to solid rocket fuel that NASA uses. Solid rocket fuel is AP,aluminum and plastic polymer all which you can buy on Amazon.

    A bit of history: In the 1950’s, Auto Manufacturers moved into the City of Detroit for the easily obtainable resources and easy shipping routes. However, after the Fuel Crisis in the mid 1970’s, the stock in the automotive industry took a swan dive. Major manufacturers such as AMC and Oldsmobile were forced to either shut their doors completely, or cut back significantly on their models. Into the early 1980’s, despite the dramatic increase in gas and diesel prices, Detroit Automakers were starting to catch on to the newer technologies in Fuel Economy. However, when the prices went up, many factories had to close down, costing thousands in jobs and causing American Automakers to outsource other jobs to the UK and Asia. Into the 1990’s, Detroit was continuing to steadily decline as manufacturers continued to outsource, move to other cities, or shut down entirely. The final nail in the coffin fir the City of Detroit was the 2008 Stock Market Crash, which caused GM, one of the last manufacturers to produce in Detroit, to shut down more than half of its divisions as part of a Bail Out deal from the US Government(it was about $35Billion). Even now, in 2021, Detroit’s economy is on a steady and somewhat scary decline. Perhaps in the next 20 years the city will be a ghost town in its literal meaning.

      Nope- Straws are sterile for the most part from GBA free toxin plastics. These Industrial rubber lined mesh water hoses are years old, not clean and after used just rolled up and used again for the next fire. Industrial High Pressure fire fighter main hoses are not food grade and nothing like drinking straws. And also, most food locations, especially family owned this coffee shop here use a separate filtration system on top of purchased drinking water. to remove bacteria, cysts, lead, iron, rust, various growths etc.. Nice try though. And yes- it actually does change a lot.

    A news station should know how to use words correctly. The fire hydrant was not "literally MacGyvered" because MacGyver didn't rig it up himself, it was just MacGyvered. Literally, for the many people who don't know basically means that what you just said actually happened, it's not an exaggeration or a figure of speech.

As for the Wurlitzer and the Metropolitan Building, they're known as brick throwers. On more than a few occasions, vehicles have sustained damage in the alleys around them. In one case, a cornice brick from the Metropolitan Building found its way through the roof of a very nice Ford F-150.

    • @HeartTheBacon
      @HeartTheBacon 7 років тому +37

      i think you may have misunderstood the video there...not the Cafe owner in this video is being sued but the Owner of the buildings next to his.
      he is being sued because he doesnt keep his building to the buidling Standarts i.e that it is safe (no falling bricks and stuff) the way it is now they may collape and kill people and cause damage when they start repairing the water.
      so it is basically his fault that the city cant do anything about the water

      Actually it may not be. Some towns and cities have separate lines. I don't know about Detroit though.

    • @theapparatus
      @theapparatus 7 років тому +5

      A quick Google seems to show it's standard to have them separate. I know in my home town in Maine, we had 2 separate systems and every year, accounting money got moved from the fire dept. budget to the water dept budget but that was just on paper.
      I see a mention that it's done that way because they can't have fluoride in fire fighting water but sodium fluoride isn't flammable.
      Type of pipes maybe? I see mentions in zoning rules and laws that fire protection pipes have to be metal. I know our drinking water mains up in Maine were originally copper with a slow conversion to pvc. They had laid the copper back in the 'teens as part of a Big Deal program.

    • @tls5870
      @tls5870 7 років тому +3

      It could be potentially cheaper for them to use a reclaimed storm-water source rather than from the water dept/treatment facility. I'm sure it just depends on the area and situation and is usually cheaper to just hot tap into the water mains.

      Keep in mind that our state Governor is Republican Rick Snyder.
      The main problem with the city of Detroit is the racial tension, that lead to the riots, which lead to massive white flight. The city was left with a lower population, with most people under the poverty line, and weak budgets that can't maintain the existing infrastructure.
