The problem is they lack the flexibility of what we call the old fashion propane and electric as a back up. In the old days if you run outta propane just switch on the electric my instant hot died on last trip and I did not have the electric element as a back up!
On demand water heater wastes a lot of water getting it to the sink or shower. When boon docking with limited water, half your water gets used just waiting and half your grey tank gets filled. I end up boiling water on the stove for dishes (when boon docking) so I don't waste water. Bottom line - I'd rather have a tank and turn it on 30 min before needing hot water then turn it off when finished - less waste.
They use more water. I hate it. I just bought one brand new 2025 Keystone and worse thing ever for boondocking. Complete waste of water. Were either going to avoid our warranty and hack this one out or get a different and older RV like all my friends have. They have zero issues when taking warm showers off grid.
What I learned is that this video confirmed why I never go to camping world for service, or as a dealer or anything other than parts. How did you not think of filling up the water tank, checking to make sure it was lit/on ready to go. Then not knowing to give it time to heat up. Also any manual(and common sense) for the on demand heater tells you it has a time and temp cut off to prevent damage, burn up etc. It's called safety. Those limits are usually in the first 2-3 pages. I'm not sure what this guys job is at camping world but he clearly knows nothing about RV's. Then who decided to post the video of him looking like he has no clue as to what he is doing. It just makes you look bad.
Hey Jim! You can absolutely fill the tanks and that's what they're intended for. The reason I talk about the tank dropping out is that I was putting a fair amount of water in the grey tank and wasn't monitoring the tank level. IF the tanks are full and more water continues to get put in, it IS possible for the tank to eventually drop out. Therefore, I figured I'd just do the easy thing and open the valve up and let it run on through into the sewer. -Ian Baker

That's a great point! Thanks for bringing this up!

Also, the guys didn't have faucet turned all the way on hot! this is clearly a sales pitch for the service department.
