Thank you so much for sharing these videos and for the very thoroughly explained steps and instructions. I was able to regrease my mixer, which has been leaking for years, thanks to you!
I watched all three of your EXCELLENT videos in this series. You have a new customer. I'll be placing my order for parts and a regrease kit immediately! Thanks and kudos for a job well done!
Simply a great tutorial. For anyone else doing this, I used a plastic knife and plastic spoon as I didn't have a plastic paint scraper
There are couple of thing Ild like to say, first you are a natural teacher/instructor. Second I was a stay at home dad from !992 to 2012 it was the greatest job I've ever had, keep up the the good work!
Thanks Pete I truly appreciate that! I'm looking forward to watching the little one grow! But not too fast hopefully
thank you so much for showing how to do this! Another video I saw simply scraped the majority of the old grease off, spread some new grease on the upper mechanism, and put it back together. I appreciate you showing us how to further take apart the gears and really clean everything! Such a great tutorial. I will be buying grease and any other parts I need from you later this afternoon once I take mine apart and see if I need any other new parts.
Glad we could help! We definitely try to go over every bit and not gloss over anything if we can :) Thanks for the kind words!!
How old was this mixer? Or maybe a better question is how frequently do you need to change the grease?
I wish I had known about you before I moved away from Kansas!!! I would have had you service mine before we left. I’ve had it for years and I’ve never had this done! Had no idea!
You are awesome! I really enjoy your videos and appreciate your helping us do it ourselves. I just ordered some parts from your site and look forward to repairing my mixer.
Happy Holidays!
Great information!! Thanks for sharing your experience!!
I've had my machine for many years but only started using it frequently in the past few months (pandemic bread making). I'm looking forward to taking it apart and regreasing but I'm not great at putting things back together so I'll have to be very careful. I'm ordering grease first! Thanks for these great videos and sharing your expertise!
You are so very welcome, thank you for taking care of your machine and thank you for being here!
very thorough instruction❤ thank you i had trauma sending my machine in service cebter they were not careful and and made multiple scratches and chips in my machine😢
You go through it so well
I wanted it to be as clear as possible, it's not overly hard it's just very intimidating, with proper instruction we can do anything!!
thanx - got the machine to work again. bought the 1/8 pin and hammered for 30min - nadda! so took it apart without removing the bottom turning part! and then came to find out that there is a pin missing (the second one you take out - and that the small gear under the plastic one was missing!! WTF>!? so I made one from a nail I cut (and hammered the edges so it won;t come out). You rock!
Ingenuity! Glad you were able to figure it out!
Thank you!
Thanks for the video's. I also came here from your Tik Tok video. I'll order the grease and any parts from you as soon as I take it apart to see whats going on inside.
Thanks for being here, I appreciate you!
Thanks for your videos, I couldn’t have regreased my kitchenAid without them. One note is that I think when kitchenAid make their mixers for the OS market (I’m in Australia) the motor has a different assembly. In my case there were motor parts on both the main body and the top of the mixer and they were wired together and the wiring was short. I had to find a box the right height to set the top of the mixer on, as I could not seperate them.
Good video I think I will try it on my mixer
We have helped tons of people! Your mixer will thank you
You are great! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Thank you for watching, I appreciate you!
@@MrMixer316 Question: do you have a video teaching how to fix when the head that it not locking?
@@MF12318 I don't, but if you tighten the sed screw that holds the lock in place on the inside, it will fix it, you may need a new spring washer or add a second one on top of the existing one
I found toothpicks useful in the gear teeth. And you are 100% right. That thing is sharp. Ouch.
Hey Mr Mixer!
I used to use one of these machines when I worked in the industry 30 yeas ago. I found one at an estate sale for $20 bucks and am about to Re-Greese it. I’m thoroughly enjoying your lesson/tutorial. You’re such a good natured person and I’m looking forward to finding you on TikTok! In the mean time I’ll continue watching part three and report back when I’m finished.
I’m sure that with all the stay at home orders and people taking up bread making and the like, you have lots of business. I hope you are getting rich, or at least making some money to save for your child’s college and your retirement. Stay safe and thank you for your very kind help!
Richard, Boston
Thank you Richard! Weve only been in business for a little over a year but we are growing more and helping more people every day! It's very humbling to be able to help people, this community is amazing! As for getting rich, maybe one day, I don't even get a paycheck right now, 😢.
Oh, I came to your tiktok from a now this video on Facebook, and from your tiktok here.
Glad to have you!
So helpful! I can’t wait to take my 10 year old mixer apart and see what I find 😳
Great video, I'm going to just send mine to you.
That works!
For crevices, you could also use cotton swabs. Very quick and easy.
I used gun cleaning swabs. They're large one sided q tips that are a bit more stout.
Thank you so much for being here and providing the tutorial. I started on another page and almost wrecked my 25 yr old stand mixer. Your video was easy to follow and included all the steps needed. I follow you on Tik-Toc and here. You are the best by far!!
Thanks Rick, I appreciate you being here! So glad I could help! That's why I'm putting this out as there are some videos out there on how to do it, but I want to make sure people are doing it correct in order to prevent damage to their machines!!
With as many mixers as you clean and regrease, I'm surprised you don't have a large ultrasonic cleaner for running multiple parts through for bulk cleaning. I use one for my small engine work and it's one of the best investments I've made in being able to maintain my equipment. Completely replaced my parts washer with the exception of parts that are physically too big for the ultrasonic.
Then again with this video being three years old, maybe you've got one by now 🤣
I cleaned the gears out pretty quick with Isopropyl alcohol spray and a nylon bristled dish brush
Thinking about getting the mixer clean.. Would you use a brake cleaner spray for the lower and upper housing to clear out the oil that leeches out. Brake cleaner evaporates cleanly..
My 30 year old non-tilting Kitchenaid is running fine. Should I disassemble and check the status of the grease?
❤❤❤ nice
Could you use Break Clean to clean the gears?
Would an ultrasonic cleaner be more efficient if all the gears are gonna be disassembled anyways? Would cut down on scrubbing i would assume.
Hey man, the pin holding the planetary shaft in place for my mixer is bent, I had to use a punch to remove and it’s got a tiny crack in it. Do you know where I can get or do you sell that pin? I’m also looking to replace the lock to prevent the top from lifting, do you know where to source that?
Excellent video thank you, looks like a lot to take apart..would you say just cleaning out the major grease and re greasing would be OK and not taking all gears apart?
It's always best to clean fairly thoroughly, greases don't always mix well together
I was just on your website but I don't see the re-grease kit you mention. I have a bowl lift and a Classic that need some love, do you have an ETA on those kits?
o
Help! My older model Kitchenaid stand mixer that hadnt been used in years was clearly leaking oil and making a bit of a grinding noise so I carefully took it apart , cleaned and regreased it. NOW IT WONT TURN ON! Yikes. I didn't unnecessarily touch any wires (it is possible i got the overload switch wires reversed though) and what I can see of the motor and wires etc looks intact and clean. Any help and suggestions are really appreciated!!!
Loving the small series of videos. On this one at 4:40 you show a straight pin. Real question (but with an expected answer): Is it possible that some models have bent pins? LOL --- guessing not and also guessing I found my problem (aside from grease that looks exactly as you show here).
They aren't supposed to be bent, but a heavy stopping force or heavy mixing for years can cause them to be bent or fractured. I see it regularly
A bench top part cleaner would make that grease removal so much easier.
Have you ever thought of getting an ultrasonic cleaner instead of the parts washer?
Great video. My mixer is making a noise that is coming from the area to the rear of the motor shaft. (under where the on/off lever is when the head is upside down). Is there something in there that needs replacing or greasing? thanks for your help
What is the noise it's making
taking it apart was the easy portion... degreasing that stuff made me regret my life decisions cuz I wanted it *completely* clean before repacking lol
Yea it can definitely take time to get it 100% clean 😅
What if you can’t get the pin out of the worm gear? 😢 the wheel keeps turning when I try to punch it out. I got it a little out and tried pulling on it with needle nose pliers but it won’t budge. Note: I got this mixer as a wedding present 21 years ago and never new about cleaning it until black grease/oil started coming out the hole where the attachment for my tomato sauce hooks on.
Oh BTW love your video! I have never tried to take apart anything and it walked me right thru it.
Came with the same question. So frustrating
Great video but I think you missed showing us how to remove the hub gear.
awesome info, but is there just water in your parts washer?
We used to use degreaser in the parts washer. We don't use a parts washer these days though.
Loved your video but somehow i ended up with one extra washer. I have the classic tilt head model. I've gone over your vedeo 3 times, all 3 parts and have yet to figure it our?
Card board washer? Sometimes there are two stacked on top of each other either under the center gear or between the housing and planetary
Hey Mr. Mixer - great video, thanks. I finally out it all back together using the grease I ordered from you and now when using the beater and front PTO slip/stalls under load. Even mixing relatively soft batter the beater and the front PTO just stop or got slow for a second or 2 and then start again. Don't think it's the planetary gear since the PTO is also stalling. Any thoughts on what I did wrong putting it back together? Thanks
Are you certain all the pins were put back Into place?
Did you replace a gear?
I replaced the yellow plastic gear but that was it. Had it all apart and it looked a little worn. No pins left over when done and it does spin 90% of the time and then stalls for a second or 2 and starts again and stalls again. It isn't constantly slipping. If I missed a pin I would think I could stop it with my hand and I can't.
@@PaulAmor 99% sure it's the gear, if you got one off of amazon they immediately break free under a heavy load and spin around the bearing that they are molded to, replace the gear with oem (we offer them) then your issue will be rectified
I cannot get the pin out of the worm gear. I was very thorough with the cleaning though. Is there something I can try to loosen it? Thank you again for your videos!
On occasion we get some extremely stubborn worm gear pins, when that happens it's easiest to buy a whole new worm gear assembly
@@MrMixer316 hah! I was just thinking the same thing (after I spent an hour on it). I just ordered one. While I'm waiting for it to arrive, do you have any videos on repainting a KitchenAid? Mine has brown stains from where the grease leaked out. I figured while I have it completely apart, I could repaint it.
I need some of this pins you have to take out. Don’t see them in your store.
Wow - I really like your video even from Munic/Germany. I am having problems with my Kitchenaid Blender and may be I need some help from you. I let you know. So far I just watch your videos. Best regards from Munic and talk to you soon.😍🎃 Gabrielle
Greetings from the US, I appreciate you being here!
I have a hand-me-down K5-A. Do I need a kit/parts for a bowl raise model WITH or WITHOUT a back cap? I am not sure what that means. Thank you.
You'll need the kit for the tilt head style it uses the same gasket!
Are there any food safe chemicals that can be used to degrease the gears or the spaces in the body?
Can the disassembled gears be be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner?
For the body, I personally wouldn't put anything there, the gears can just go in dishsoap or ultrasonic cleaner.
what in your parts cleaner gas?
Hey quick question for you?
Is the original grease black or white? I bought a used unit, and when I disassembled it, the grease was very white. I suspect the previous owner tried to regrease it and fix parts of it, but the lady pretended like they didn't know about any issue at all.. I didn't buy it. Isn't the factory grease black? And very white grease would be very freshly greased??
White grease is now present from factory in machines 2016 or so and newer. Anythign older will be black!
@@MrMixer316 awesome! Thank you! It was a very clean unit then.. makes me happy to know this! Cheers
I’m following these instructions on my 15 year old machine and my hub gear isn’t coming out. It can still spin, so it’s not completely stuck, but I can’t slide it out to clean it. I even tried pushing it out through the attachment port. Any tips or ideas?
You can sometimes tap it througj with a punch from the outside
Can you add this to the regreasing Playlist?
Yes! Sorry I thought it was there! Thank you
Is there any way to know before taking the machine apart if I’ll need new gears? I’d hate to get it all taken apart, then have to wait for new gears to ship…
We offer fast shipping but also sometimes have a worm gear on standby isn't the worst idea so I recommend purchasing one as it's generally the only gear that has wear
I really just wanna clean everything with brake cleaner. Not sure if it would be to harsh on the parts though 😅
Probably wouldn't harm the parts but introducing harmful chemicals to a food safe system could be problematic
@@MrMixer316 your right! I’ll stick with dawn and a brush! Haha, I just got my mother’s kitchenaid mixer that she has had for 20ish years! I plan on re-greasing it and checking the gears out. Anything else you recommend while I’m doing that? I plan on getting a new gasket and grease kit from your website.
Came from tik tok
Pleasure to have you here!
Have you ever encountered a mixer that wasnt fixable? (Or know of any issues that make a mixer “totaled” ?)
I’m pretty mechanically inclined but never worked on a mixer. I’m going to regrease mine with your videos (thanks!) but I also have a mixer that someone threw away. It is sentimental to this person so I grabbed it and am going to attempt to restore it for them.
There is never anything that can't be fixed
Well I’m nerding out over this mixer now and actually asked you a question on TikTok about it today 😂
It’s taken apart; I have all the grime
Do you offer a kit just with the cardboard gaskets and other miscellaneous seals? My gears seem to be fine so I don’t think I need the full out overhaul kit.
We do offer a grease and gasket kit if that's all you're needing as well as just the gaskets individually.
@@MrMixer316 I see the large gasket and grease but not something that includes the small donut shaped cardboard gaskets
Is there a way to be put on an email list to be notified when you get the cardboard gaskets in stock?
I can send you a link to find them from other sources, my manufacturer is taking forever.
@@MrMixer316 OK. But also start an email list. I don't know if I'll have time to do this in Nov/Dec or if I won't get to it till Jan/Feb. I'd love to buy from you directly to financially support your business as a thank you for making these videos.
@@kebers Thank you, that means a lot! Send me an email mrmixer316@yahoo.com and I will make a list!
would brake clean be alright to use on the gears?
Please do not use brake cleaner on any kitchen appliance. Brake cleaner usually has some pretty nasty stuff that I believe to be carcinogenic. If anything, use isopropyl alcohol and just let it dry very well before you reassemble and plug it back in.
How much does a regrease cost? How does shipping work? Thanks
Our base fee for a regrease is $125 that is for a regrease/tune/clean and then it's $25 per part for most parts that need replaced. The average repair is $225 or so as most machines can benefit from a handful of new parts. We offer a $50 shipping label and we cover return shipping! Check the shipping tab on our website mrmixer.store
How long does shipping parts take ?
We usually ship same/next day
Can you use brake clean or something like that to clean all of the parts if you mask off the motor area?
You can do whatever you would like, however I recommend removing the gears if your going to spray anything on them
I guess I was talking more about the upper housing my the motor shaft. By the way, excellent tutorial! I follow you on tiktok too!
*by
@@danoste1734 thank you, I would say it's OK as long as you mask off the motor and don't get any fluid onto it!
Brake cleaner is incredibly toxic so not sure if you want to use that near/in food processing equipment. Also, if you’re not careful and allow it to leak through the body of the mixer, it will remove paint. The only way that it would be safe if you remove the gears and clean then separately.
What type of grease do you buy?
It's an nsf h1 nlgi 2 food safe grease we offer it on our website mrmixer.store
What is the solution in the parts washer?
I want to know this too!
I don't see a "regrease" package on your website. Did I miss it somewhere?
No we are waiting on gaskets, a "kit" should be available hopefully soon, we have grease and tools currently
@@MrMixer316 Awesome, I've got a bowl lift model. How often should the grease be changed in a light use situation in a home model? I saw somewhere that said yearly but that seemed a bit overkill for a model used maybe a couple times a month.
@@dcast777 we reccomend 1-2 years on owner preference and how much it's used!
Just use brake clean! Is it some how not safe for the machine??
Why don’t you use a parts washer or a product to clean grease off after you get the majority of grease off?
Well I see you do use a parts washer lol
Why the heck does kitchen aide puts globs and mounds of grease in the machines??
I thought it might be easy since there are videos but, nah, man, I'll just ship it for you to take care of for me. I'd lose all those screws and have grease everywhere.
Old toothbrushes work good for cleaning the teeth of the gears
use a toothbrush to clean the channels, preferably hard bristled and new.. you're welcome 😂
Pedro Pascal
So not only does the oil leak out of the Kitchenaid, but Kitchenaid use cardboard seals and rings in their machine? That is unbelievable. I am so sorry I bought this thing.
You can't just wash this stuff ?
You can wash the gears, I wouldn't introduce any water or detergent to the actual machine
@@MrMixer316 thank you! Found you on tiktok! I have oil leaking from my front attachment so i guess i have to do this process 😭
@@msdramaqueen143 its not too bad, and your machine will thank you!
