  • Grooming with Comb Attachments | In this video, I demonstrate grooming with Comb Attachments (also called Clip Combs or Snap On Combs)
    Comb Attachments are a helpful accessory for clippers and a must have for groomers world wide.
    These combs control the depth of the cut allowing you to cut hair to a uniform length.
    I use a #30 blade under the comb attachments.

    Hi, thanks for your videos, I really enjoy how you talk all the way through, love it. I just have a question about comb guides. I have the set in the link shown. I do get confused by the numbers the combs are called. You are using a orange one on body which you said was a number 1 and yellow one on legs is a number 0. On the combs I have the orange one is a number 4 and yellow is a number 3 which is on the black plastic of comb - so can I just clarify the number verses colour please. Thank you.

I have been grooming my two dogs for a while and just came across your UA-cam channel as I was looking for tips in different areas of the grooming process. I have the Wahl km-10 as well and the stainless attachment comb kit. I was told by Wahl that I can use the 10 blade that comes with the clippers for the snap on the combs. What does the 30 blade offer? What’s wrong with just using the 10 blade? They said it has a wider tooth so might go they the coat easier? Do you use finishing blades for the body as well? I was told to get the 5f and 7f

    Hi and thanks for your videos they are incredibly helpful. I do have a question as i am also new to grooming. I understand that using the comb attachment gives an even cut all over but i thought using just a standard blade like a 7f for example would still give you the even length too? Can you clarify why one may be better than the other? Thank you!

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  6 років тому +3

      Hi, with the longer comb attachments you can leave the coat longer than if using a blade. Blade leave one length all over as well but they cut differently. The combs in my opinion give a nicer finish. Hope this helps. Any more questions just ask, I am happy to help.

    Excellent! Question...how did you decide to use a #30 blade under your combs? Does it matter? We have a doodle and want to begin grooming her ourselves and love love love your channel.

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  6 років тому +5

      +Dennis Royalty The #30 blade is recommended for these snap Combs. You can use a #15 or 10 blade which would make the length a little longer. Never us a #40 as the blade will snap.
      I use a #30 so my grooms are always the same length as most of my clients are regulars.
      I also find the 30 goes through the coat easier and leaves a smoother clip than the other sized blades

    • @dennisroyalty1591
      @dennisroyalty1591 6 років тому +1

      Thanks! another question if I may...I've read that when using only blades, cutting with the grain leaves the hair twice the length of the blade, against the grain leaves the stated length of the blade. In other words, a 3/4HT going with the grain would leave ~1.5". Thoughts? We want our doodle 3/4" mainly and want to make sure we purchase correctly.
      Also, shear recommendation for home grooming? What's a good quality straight shear?

    So I have a 7 mo 0ld black standard poodle == i tried a wahl human clipper and tried to get down for a 1/2 inch -- didn't even touch it and kept clogging up -- any ideas -- ? - The video is great

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  Рік тому

      Hi, I am not familiar with the human clippers. Perhaps its not powerful enough to go through dg hair or the coat isn't clean enough or brushed and combed thoroughly. If the coat was washed and combed out properly then it may be several reasons such as a dull blade or the blade needed to be oiled or it may be your technique. Its really hard to say as I cant see or hold the clipper. Comb the coat thoroughly and try again. Its recommend purchasing a dog clipper and see if that helps.

    One thing no one seems to answer is what blade do you use with the comb attachments? Given the comb is setting the length does it matter if you use a 10, a 7, or whatever?

  • @cristianagoncalves2342
    @cristianagoncalves2342 7 років тому

    I know this may sound stupid, but when you use those clippers.. is it
    like when you shave your legs? or do you need to leave a little space
    from the dogs skin to the fur? im just scared that i might cut her.

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  7 років тому +1

      Great question! Most blades allow space from the dogs skin to the fur. The shorter the blade the closer to the skin. #10,15,30, and 40 blade are very close to the skin, these blades are used mostly on poodles faces, feet and tail base. However these blades are used under the comb attachments which leave the coat longer.
      If you need to shave your dog short because of matting I recommend taking him to a groomer and then you can maintain the coat after. Any blade can cut the skin. If you use the blade properly and have confidence in using the clipper than you should be okay. Always have the blade flat against the skin and go slow.

    Seems when I use comb attachments I can't get it through the hair that easy. Constantly getting snagged. I'm using a brand new 30 blade and have even used conditioner and brushed out first. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Very frustrating.

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  4 роки тому +1

      Hi. Is the comb attachment new or older? Can you try another 30 blade. Sometimes a new 30 blade won't work well so it's best to try another one to see if it works. Try another comb attachment as they get worn down. Also thoroughly comb through the coat to ensure their are no pin mats in the coat.
      Hope this helps

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  4 роки тому

      Hi, a number 10 blade would leave the hair a bit longer than a 30 as 30 blades cut closer than a 10. I find that the 30 works best over a 10 but you can give it a try.

    I have a problem and I ask for help. Yesterday I had Bichon and the client was looking for a bit longer hair. I estimate that I should use the attachment clasp 4 on the blade 10. The dog I washed, dried and brush. When I started, between the blade clipper and the comb attachment stuck with hair. I did not manage to cut it at all. I do not want to give up. On Sunday I go to take that dog and do it in the right way. I need an advice. Can there be a reason that the comb attachment does not lie properly on the blade? What should I do?

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  5 років тому +1

      Hi! Use a #30 blade under the 4 comb attachment, it will work better and be smoother. Also make sure there are no mats or knots as the blade wont go through the coat. Use a comb to comb thoroughly. The 4 blade is short though, not sure how much coat you want to leave on. Also your #10 blade may be dull and thats why it did not cut. I never use a 10 as I find they dont give a nice clip. Good luck

    • @LoveofGrooming
      @LoveofGrooming  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, these are the clippers that I use amzn.to/2UR2gO1
      It's usually the blade that burns the dog, not the clipper. The blade can get hot so it's best to have two blades of the same size and switch the blade when hot. Also use a blade spray to keep the blade cool and moving smoothly like this one amzn.to/2UPEJgr
      Also if the blade is full it can burn the dog. Hope this helps.

    Alright...there is no way my dog would stay quiet like that! Do you give your dog a sedative?

      No sedative. She is used to grooming since a puppy and is on a 6 week grooming schedule.

      All my client dogs get offered water. Some don't drink it but some do.

    It's videographer’s common mistake . Need to use dark background for black dog.

    Groomers who do videos forget there is a dog they are working with and its not all about the audience. Dog is panting why aren't you have a conversation with the dog to comfort him? All I heard you say is "move your head honey". You are talking to a dog, not a human.

      Are you serious? I am talking through the whole video. The dog hears my voice and thinks I am talking to her. Most groomers do not talk to the dogs. The dog is there to get groomed and get praised after by saying good dog or giving it a cookie. A lot of dogs pant and shiver while being groomed because they don't like it but tolerate it. Do some research and become a groomer before leaving a uneducated comment.
      Dogs only understand certain words or tones. Seriously do some research, lol. How can I forget that I am grooming a dog? That's such a weird comment.
      Watch any video on any subject and see if they are forgetting what they are doing or talking about.
