I remember one Jeremy Clarkson checking this car out on the British version of Top Gear in 2005. He LOVED parts of the R8, and some parts he hated. Still, this car made an impact that won't be forgotten.
This video makes me feel like I have a responsibility to automotive culture to keep my 1st gen V10 manual in tip top shape. Also, I am a tall guy and the image at 21:12 you can see why I don't have a Galladro.
For anyone that doesn't know. The "unintentional acceleration" was driver error! Yes, people were hitting the gas and brake pedal and with no safety features like today, the engine was stronger than the brakes!
Do you watch yourself before you post videos? your mannerisms, high pitched voice, and everything are just over the top. like do you act like that in the real world when you're talking to people? I find it really hard to watch.
Uh, the Audi chassis isnt based off ANY racing series EVER. The C8 Corvette series actually is with its GTLM chassis, and even Porsche nor Ferrari hold that claim to fame. A standard Z51 package C8 Stingray is 5 seconds faster on the Nurburgring in its development mode, let alone full production car. The DOWNFALL of the R8 was its CHASSIS, and no matter what you did in terms of suspension set up it simply wasnt as balanced on track as it looked to be. From the first initial test with Randy Pobst and motor trend it had been revealed as a GT car that wasnt quite up to serious track duty, but it looked cool. What was even worse is GM made a car for a third of the price that was far better in EVERYTHING. GM benchmarked the R8 because it was what the public was after for ride quality, but blew the cars doors off with its mag ride. Now the real killer was overheating problems on track and oversteer. It had understeer on corner entry and serious oversteer on exit, but it looked nice. The ONLY company to make good on its race heritage promise in under 200,000 dollar cars is GM, and that series isnt even finished.
I love u armchair experts. Drive a vette and an r8 of the same vintage. No one in their right mind picks the vette. And btw, look at the lap times EVO magazine posted when the r8 was introduced, and get back to me on not doing well on track.
@@KN-jw7ts Not the C8 series. Just look at the R8 chassis compared to the C8 series to automatically identify the race car chassis, and its not even funny. You simply dont even have to be a engineer to see the Audi is like a full generation before. The C8 series is from the company restructuring, and since then they have put out the best sports cars in the entire world bar none. Audi, Porsche, Mercedes and BMW were all benchmarked in restructuring and in many ways GM surpassed their designs. A standard Z51 C8 is a better car than a R8 because it was designed to be better.

And i know these guys get it wrong sometimes or more after they held the LLY Duramax up as an awesome engine, its not, anyone who is into diesels will tell you its one of 2 horrible Duramaxs. I miss the sound of fixed vain turbos. They said the 6.5 was good to and it wasnt it couldnt tow without over heating. They say 6.7 powerstroke isnt much count, lol , they have 1 problem that can be excessively priced... the cp4. The intercooler tube has to be upgraded aswell. And the old Nissan trucks were ok but they all get that effing tick from manifold leaks. They didnt even address the differences between 24v cummins. Sorry im a diesel guy. Lol.

13:32 the dumbest thing you did with the Audi was getting married bro. All marriages end. And it's rarely in death. Literally have a hire chance of winning the lottery than your marriage ending in death.
Shame that Audi killed the R8 and rededicated themselves to electric kidcars. They could have at least done a V10 TT hybrid or something... for fuel economy. I personally apologize as an American for neutering Germany to this point. Everyone look away.
Also I can vouch that Audis have an unexpected problem with sudden acceleration. It happened all the time with my A6 and this R8 I rented. Just tell the officers the engine was acting up, they'll understand, it's a common issue
I bet the electric will be too crazy. Look at tesla. No matter how addicted to fuel you are the bad ass performance of Electric will make us forget gasoline and wonder why we didnt do Electric to begin with.

I once went to an Audi dealer, asked if they had any R8s and they said yes, 3 custom ones, and I got to even take photos with them, I love audis 👌👌👌
