    A truly timeless classic machine, I absolutely love the GM New Look, they weren't just the best looking bus, but the most reliable & best built too, a crying shame they have all been replaced by rubbish now, its the same story here in the UK :(

    I remember my old bus. I do miss it at times, but at least we got to take it for a good drive before it went back to Edmonton Transit to join their historic collection.

    I love to collection of buses you have in your lot. We have about 5 that we are working on now. 1965, 1972, 1982, 1983 GM New Looks, and a 1985 GM Classic.

    And of course, people such as you have these. Helps to preserve these. A number of agencies still use these..

    Yea, two speed. top speed for most of these buses was about 80-90km/h. the 2 speed transmission was very common with these buses from 1959-1977. And these buses were sold in mass quantities all over North America. Still works just fine for routes that stayed on city roads.

    Our area had this bus but it was the GM T6H-4521A that was purchased by the Mercer County (NJ) Improvement Authority (They ran the Mercer Metro before New Jersey Transit took it over in 1984) in 1970, and ran on Mercer County (NJ) Streets from 1970 until 1985. These were the only Fishbowls that were purchased new.

    in Toronto till about a year ago TTC (Toronto Transit Commission ) which is public transit still used these buses, you see less of these being towed then the new ones that they are using now. I like the look of this bus classic,

    @smokefreak2006 Exactly! Forget making buses quieter. If they sound like this they deserve to be loud!

    Understand that this Detroit Diesel is a 2 stroke cycle engine..It only revs to around 2400rpm but since each cylinder fires on EVERY downstroke, it sounds as if it's revving twice as fast. At 4:55 in the vid you can clearly hear the blower whine, COOL!

    97SCT, that bus used to be owned by myself too. It was a 1960 GM TDH5301 from Winnipeg, #271. The bus was in a little rough shape with rust and corrosion all over, engine was tired, and needed a ton of work. If I had the money and connections like I did with my 1969 T6H4521, I may have considered fixing the TDH5301 instead. I also didn't have access to the parts until after I sold the bus unfortunately. Now that Winnipeg Transit bus had been removed from the property and scrapped

    I hope you guys will show it on video when it will be done! ;) Fishbowl and Classics are my favorite! In Quebec City Transit they have a few 1985 and 86 Classics left but they will out of service in june 08... To bad!

    It's actually one speed and torque converter. The VS2 is two speeds+torque converter, and the V730 three speeds+torque converter.

  • @Beldar4214
    @Beldar4214 15 років тому

    The earlier Fishbowls and GM Old look buses have only one speed. it uses the torque converter to start out and get up to speed, then locks and directly drives the wheels.

    They used 40 and 35 footers, there were roughly a dozen different buses for different scenes. Some interior scenes used 35 footers.

    Sort of, same basic model yes. But the one's in speed were a little different.

  • @kevlo86
    @kevlo86  16 років тому +1

    The bus has a 2 speed transmission. It would be difficult to get any sort of decent speed without getting the engine to work hard into its highest RPMs

    Oh look mostly Fishbowl buses and one MCI MC9 Crusader ii Coach that GMC Fishbowl is gotta be 35feet or 40feet transit bus

  • @ThunderAppeal

    With the engine sitting so far back behind the wheels how did the transmission attach to the engine and the rear wheels? The engine is positioned laterally and I'm assuming the transmission is attached to the engine in the same fashion as in front wheel drive cars. If thats not the case then how does the power reach the wheels.

      AT540, AT545 or MT643. However, the MT644, MT647 and HT747 were all available in the Orion I since 1983 (MT647 since 1985-86).
