- Experience a 1970's bus ride on the 10 Monterey from Cortland & Bayshore to Diamond & Monterey in San Francisco, California. The bus is a 1969 General Motors and was the primary fleet used by MUNI in the early to mid 70's. Enjoy the ride!

Just by the sound of the engine and the interior rattle, you can tell it’s a New Look fishbowl. My favorite bus ever.

WHEN EVER I WENT TO SAN FRANCISCO , BACK IN THE 80"s I LOVED RIDEING THOSE SAN FRANCISCO BUSES , I THINK SAN FRANCISCO HAS ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES, EVEN OVER NEW YORK CITY ,,, SAN FRANCISCO TRANSIT SYSTEM IS EVEN GREAT AND VERY ATTRACTIVE TODAY IN 2020, I,VE ALWAYS LOVED SAN FRANCISCO BUSES , SAN FRANCISCO IS A CITY WHERE YOU DONT NEED TO OWN A CAR, SAN FRANCISCO BUSES ARE EVERY WHERE , EVEN THE GREAT LOOKING A VERY CLEAN SUBWAY SYSTEM, SAN FRANCISCO HAS IN GREAT AND VERY MODERN SUBWAY IN WHICH IS VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT ,I LOVE YOU SAN FRANCISCO ALSO WITH YOUR GREAT LOOKING AND NOTICEABLE SKYLINE DOWNTOWN SAN FRANCISCO,
This bus route reminded me of parts of the 26 Valencia Line which drove near the Glen Park Bart Station

I operated San Francisco Muni bus #3270 a few times for the Pacific Bus Museum, and I work as a commercial truck driver for my work. That 8V71 has momentum on those hills.
Gosh.......I Loved this film , Thank you for making this Video, I miss these good old Jimmy's, that's what the bus drivers used to call these 1969 GM C New Look Buses when I was a kid growing up in San Francisco, back in the 1970's-80's I used to ride these buses everyday to school for years , also the S.F. Muni had a few Mack diesel Buses still running at that time with some Flexible New Look diesel Buses until 1980 than they eventually took out of service and replaced with AM General diesel Buses in 1977 and some Grumman Flexible 870 Buses in 1979, which ran along with the Jimmy's in service for awhile. The GM C New Look Buses were the Best and my Favorite Buses to ride.and I am glad that the S.F. Muni kept some of the GM New Look Buses still running in transit service until 1995.......Thank you for posting this video great memories.........

A lot of hills, our Queens Transit Corp. in New York back in 1985 a few Buses would not make it up the hill, passengers had to get off and meet me up the hill then get back on, crazy huh

Same here. They don't sound like that anymore. these Jimmys were tigers, roaring down the road. We had them in Seattle, too.

These sound like they were equipped with V8 Engines and had the VS-2 Transmissions, DC had a few of those equppied like that but the majority came equipped with the V6 Engines along with the VH9 Transmissions.
Yes. SF Muni fishbowls came with 8v71 engines and VS2 transmissions
there was the 8 Market, 9 Richland, 11 Hoffman, 14 Mission I remember these buses so well; How can I find when they will run this bus again?

A "1970's bus ride"? No way. The cars and other vehicles are much newer than those that traveled the City in the 1970's. Also, notice the garbage and recycling toters that were non existent in the 70's. Also notice the street striping for bicycles on some of the roads and the bicyclist donning a helmet, which was uncommon in the 1970's. I rode the 10 Monterey frequently when growing up in the City in the 1950's, 1960's, and early 1970's and was looking forward to viewing this video. The video, however, clearly was not filmed in the 1970's.

Well Daniel guess what this is NOT a SF MUNI bus, this is a bus that was restored to look like a MUNI Fishbowl. Why I say that is not look, and see, but listen has I remember taking these lovely buses from 1969 to 1977 as on the 2 14 15 45 43 44 35 45 the grand queen the 38 and 38L, and rarely the street car routes when they were buses. But I never heard Clicking sounds when turning in which the steering wheel was turning. No doubt that this was either from AC transit or Samtrans, otherwise bring back these babies they where better, and faster..

This is an actual MUNI fishbowl, coach number 3182 and put into service in July of 1969. As a matter of fact it is one of the 10 Air Conditioned units MUNI ordered..
The clicking you hear while turning is the turn signal cancel mechanism. AC Transit and SamTrans had floor buttons for tuen signal control so no clicking while turning would be heard.
A good ear can identify an 8V71, AC and SamTrans did not have 8V71’s
Thanks for giving my bus the unicorn status... I would have never wasted my time restoring a non MUNI fishbowl!
Alex, this is a 100% ORIGINAL SF Muni fishbowl. It's not a "bus that was restored to look like it was a SF Muni bus." This is a completely authentic 100% Muni bus that was restored to original condition. I've personally driven this bus and helped the owner work on it. Also, the 14-Mission is/was an electric trolley bus route
