Aiyu is a plant based jelly made with Aiyu tree seeds which is a tree found only in Taiwan. It's much healthier than jelly.
as a Taiwanese, I can assure you that no Taiwanese is gonna be offended by foreigners not liking stinky tofu. We love it and can also understand people who aren't used to it don't.
To each their own, we don't all have to like the same things 😊
I was in Taiwan for 6 months, and I've never tried it 😆😆😆
Even more, as a native Taiwanese, I can never handle stinky tofu neither. None of my friends judge me by that. So it's really totally ok to us.
@@OnePackWanderers As a foreigner being married to a Taiwanese, the first time I tried stinky tofu I had the same reaction. But I now actually like it 😉 Adding the pickled veggies to a bite really help, if you ever want to try it again 🙂
Guess its what you are raised up on. Different Nationalities different foods, but we are lucky to be able to try these foods ourselves. Some people like the food some don't its your choice. We are lucky we dont have to travell to try these foods. We live in a multicultural world now.
Soooo excited for these Taiwan videos. It’s high on my list for no other reason except to EAT. (I even like stinky tofu after a couple of years living in Shanghai.)
Come to Taiwan we would like you to try all our traditional foods!! 😊
OMG, loved your expressions and honesty!!! I'm in total agreement with you though; it does taste exactly how it smells. No idea why it's anyone's "yum". Guess different stokes...
Yes please to more night markets - this was so fun! Happy travels!
Its totally valid not to like something, nobody likes everything, and its not a criticism of any country or culture. The fact that still tried it after smelling it shows an openness which is fantastic.
Your faces when trying the tofu 😂😂😂 don’t think I’ll ever be trying it. Your b-roll is 🔥
Taiwan is known for its fruits. You guys should try them, especially the ones that don't exist in most other countries. Also Taiwan has the highest density of high mountains in the world!!! hopefully you guys have time to do some hiking. Amazing views!
Yes! Try the amazing fruits. Cherimoya, lian wu, longan, lychee, dragon fruit, green dates, etc.
OMG! Your faces when you tasted the stinky tofu was priceless😂👍 Kudos for trying it👏🏻
Seriously, right?
Yes!
Gotta eat it with the garlic soy sauce and pickled veg. It would have been a totally different experience.
Ahhhh, stinky tofu is for kids when compared to Limburger cheese, aged rotting high ammonium shark and other fish.
When you ferment a plant-based product, like soybeans in stinky tofu, it can never come close to the toxicity of aged animal and animal byproducts.
glad you guys loved the pepper buns. Those are my Fav by far
Honestly, Half the reason we watch you guys is for your food reactions lol we love seeing all the places you guys go and the food you eat. Never stop recording those! 🎉
I really enjoy seeing all of the food and getting your reaction!
Good job on trying the stinky tofu - it wasn't my thing when I visited too! You definitely have to try the oyster omelette, Taiwanese fried chicken, oyster vermicelli, and rice balls (Taiwanese-style onigiri), while you're at a night market. Oh and definitely the taro and sweet potato dessert!
Great travelogue - really enjoyed the in-depth review of Raohe Night Market. Nice photography too!
The first bun looks so good. Went there years ago….I’m sure it changed a lot!
You guys are so cute 🥰
I literally just finished your last video and here you are with another~!
I literally laughed out loud at the stinky tofu scene! My wife loves it but I’m with you, can’t stand the smell or the taste. When you get a chance, would love to see you try durian in Malaysia!
I love stinky tofu but oh no, not the durian please no😂😂😂😂😂
Hilarious seeing you try that Tofu.
Also, y'all are my comfort channel - I watch you while cycling or while at work. Calming.
I was just thinking of that, and “salt fish” right? I heard it smells really bad but I have never tried both in my life…
@@evilsudoku8084 くさやは、ムロアジ🐟️やトビウオ🐟️を発酵・乾燥させて、魚の醤油(魚醤)につけて焼いたもので、強烈に臭い匂いがする食べ物です😱
@@user-db1xx5vy1e ahh I see, thanks for explaining! I would love to try it one day for sure 😊
Love your videos!
Great one!! Cheers!
Wow… the fried stinky tofu is probably a better beginners bite. The stewed stinky tofu can be really strong and definitely for the advanced stinky tofu eater 😅
Definitely visit Jiufen… it’s an afternoon into evening trip. Get the taro, mochi dessert there. Pingxi /Shifen have lanterns you can decorate and let go into the night sky. Night markets are a must and good for the travel budget.
If you get bored of Taipei, jump on the HSR (High-Speed Rail from Taipei Train station) and visit Kaoshiung. The river area has been renovated and nice to walk around.
If you extend your stay go diving with sea turtles off Green Island.
Awesome videos! My family is from Taiwan but I haven't been able to visit in a few years due to the pandemic - brings back memories! :)
Stinky tofu isn't my cup of tea either, but for the opposite reason most people have. I love the smell (smells like a strong French cheese to me haha) but I feel like it tastes like nothing!
Greetings from Ireland :)
Another great episode!!!
YesYesYES!! More Night Market footage in Taipei please! Thank-you! Thank-you!!😆PS~Don;t forget to try Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken too!!
"Garbage that a cat peed on" lol 🤣 Great vlog! We're thinking of heading there in February.
You two are so much braver than I am. I have been near stinky tofu a number of times and didn't dare to try it. Just the smell! At least you did! Kudos for that. Your faces after taking that first bite were priceless. My respect for you two has skyrocketed ever since. And to a level beyond anything at all.
Next steps I would like to suggest: oyster omelet at Shilin night market and soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung. Both dishes are out of this world and definitely on the other end of the spectrum compared to your tofu adventure. Not to mention the beef noodle soup and milk boba tea. Maybe some pineapple cake for dessert?
Taiwan has so much great food on offer. You could (and should) spend a lot more time on this island and head south. Again some great night markets. Food that has amazed the people at Michelin at night market stalls so much they gave the their acknowledgements. Where else in the world can you get this quality food at such affordable prices? 😛🤑😇
Well, a highly entertaining video again! In 3 months time I will be in Taiwan again and sampling the local cuisine. You can't imagine how much I am looking forward to follow in your footsteps on that terrific island. ⛩⛩⛩🏯🏯
Maybe we must start a crowdfunding action in order to keep you there a little longer?

Don't blame you for not liking the stinky tofu. As a Taiwanese I can't do stinky tofu either! Lol..
I love your background music, such 80’s vibe!😆
It is so interesting. I and my wife was traveling taipei last week and visited this market. I saw both of you in the pepper bun store. We stand right behind Tia on that store. I found my wife and myself in your video. Thanks and hope to have lots of fun.
Definitely recommend paying a visit to Tamsui to check out the beautiful view and relaxing vibe over there. The BeiTou Hotspring is also a good spot for this time of the year.
Smells like garbage then a cat pissed on it. 🤣 Had me rolling! Great work guys!
Also Nantou Sun Moon Lake is gorgeous, rent bikes & bike around the lake!!
Visit Yangmingshan National Park. Check out the fumeroles at Xiaoyoukeng.
Hi, Tia and Chevego, thank you for video. I love night market in Taipei.
You guys gotta check out the beautiful east coast and Taroko Gorge
yes please share more night market food! I also recommend traditional markets that are open during the day. my favorite is cheng gong market in daan!
Love the video and hope you guys are having a blast in Taiwan! Please definitely go visit “Jiufen” with the Old Street and mountain if you guys have time! It’s a. It is a bit touristy but worth it!
Haaahaaa, loved the faces when you are that sticky tofu 🤣🤣fair play at least you tried it, good video y’all 👌
Ahhhh, you tried all the best things! Looks delicious!!
OMG, those buns, 胡椒餅, "Pepper pastry"?, are definitely my favorites, omg, they are so good. I can eat 3!
I agree, they are SO GOOD
I live in that district (Songshan), but nearer to the airport. That nightmaket extends past just that one street and partially surrounds the large train station nearby.
It's all about trying new food and new culture. It's definitely ok if you dont like something other seems to love. Great job trying! Another big check mark on a unique world experience. Taiwan has more than enough amazing food that will wow your palate!
I could not wait for the next video. Absolutely loved hearing you pronounce the name of the market [ You get an A from me ]. I could hear the crunch. Market packed with what looks like yummy food. Absolutely love grilled hotdogs. Excellent all around PS Funny Bloopers
yes film more of them
All I can tell you, don’t make the mistake of leaving without sampling the two varieties of Buddha Fruit (custard apple)
It is so unique when very ripe. The sugars crystallize and have a heavenly aroma and taste between pine and sugarcane.
So many varieties of bananas. Some just dissolve banana essence that melts and evaporates on your tongue.
Dragon Fruits are in season now. Red fleshed are preferred.
Also, the fresh green dates that more resemble a small green apple.
Classic❗😆
U 2 didn't have 2 try it❗ No pressure❗ great entertainment tho❗👍🤣
Omg the tofu and your faces 😂😂 but the buns looked really good!
Sticky tofu is an acquired taste, think of Durian in Thailand, you either like it or you don't. I love sticky tofu, the more it smells the better! Glad you tried it.
I (Cheveyo) am going to try it again and see if I can acquire the taste
Ai Yu is made from squeezing/washing the pectin out from Ai Yu plant. The plant sure have tons of pectin that will become one big piece of jello in the water. Ai Yu lemon drink is a traditional summer drink in Taiwan since long long long time ago.
推薦可以旅遊的地點
九份、太魯閣國家公園、清水斷崖、花東海岸線、武嶺、日月潭、清淨農場、墾丁海灘、淡水老街、黃金海岸、多良車站、綠島、蘭嶼、小琉球
More night markets! Go to a stall that makes the ice cream on the frozen slab. Tia will like that! :)
I went here in December, wasn’t as adventurous with food. Also check out the National Palace Museum if your still there…
Pepper bun is my favorite. The stall has a brick and mortar store by the main train station. Other food stall type items to look for is big chicken patty. It is as big as your face. Look for Taiwanese breakfast like Yong He doh Jiang aka “yong he soy milk”. Get salty soy milk hot , sweet soy milk cold or hot, xiao long bao, fan Tuan (rice roll include everything ), sao bing with yo tiaou, and Dan bing. Get one of everything to try. It won’t cost that much.
Ha! That was awesome. Honestly I thought you guys handled that really well. When I tried it I was literally scratching at my tongue. And I had to eat a variety of other foods for the next 20 minutes to reset my taste buds. I give those vendors a very wide berth when in Taiwan - I try to stay upwind. My wife keeps trying to get me to try it again but I don't think so. And I totally get some people love it. I like to drink kimchi juice so... hard-core korean.
The look on your faces.LOL. It's an acquired taste. I love it. I'll be there next month to get mine.
Nice try in Taipei’s night market! Although I’m Taiwanese from Taipei, I’ll suggest you two to go hiking around our Taipei basin. Yangmingshan or Yangming mountain is the highest one located in the north part of Taipei, it’ll take you half day experiencing their nature. Personally I prefer Teapot mountain way more, but it’ll take 1hr and ten minutes going from the central to the bottom of that hill(Yes, bus can arrive there).
If you’re tried of trying street food, there’re many good restaurants that offer you tasty food, whether the international or local flavor with creativity. One of my best recommends may be Chafortea, using tea leaves in almost every kinds of dishes. Pretty cool, and so delicious. I took two Slovene friends once, and they did loved it :)
If possible, you can discover more(I mean differences) in Miaoli or Nantou. Miaoli is famous for its Hakka culture, and Puli in Nantou county contains sooooo many different cultural backgrounds people gathering together. And by the way, there’re many hills in Miaoli, and full of mountains in Nantou. Grab the opportunity to visit there sometime! :D
Funniest video yet!! I would never!! Lolo😂
Have you tried sugar plum chicken stake?my favorite
nice trip,.. dream destination....
Highly Recommended the Eastern Tawan : "Hualien" Tarako Gorge national park & "Taitung" fudafudak bay .
愛玉是台灣特有,它是天然的果凍,是由天然植物的種子“洗”出來的。
You guys should try the wet markets they have the most traditional authentic Taiwanese food!!
I would say go visit ningxia night market too. It is less touristy than raohe and shilin. Also make sure to eat guava for sure and wax apples
Papaya smoothie. Watermelon juice. Big belly king drinks 🙂 miss'n Taiwan TT
Awesome your faces eating stinky tofu, I use to work in taipei and stayed at a hotel 5 min walk from rouhe and there is some awesome food there! Including the stinky tofu which I love, there is a shop there on the right side as you walk down the market from the bun shop side. It does a fried chicken with parmensan cheese on it with Japanese curry. Sooo yummy.
We're surprised the pepper bun didn't burn your lip!!! I ate one and the juice was literally boiling hot when I bit into it! I now have a painful blister on the side of my lip and haven't been able to properly eat for the past 3 days lmao
Go to Ningxia night market, it is one of the best and most popular in Taipei. If you want chewy bits just say QQ (Taiwanese use QQ for chewy bits). Try some Chua Bing (Taiwanese shaved ice) or the snow ice if you like sweet things they are both mega!
If you like the pork sausage, U should try the brand Black Bridge pork sausage - it has a stronger garlic flavor... the best! They have a location in Tamsui, another place you should check out. Red line on the MRT.
Yes. More night markets. 😁
It's the first time I've ever seen either of you rendered silent over food! That said, when you describe the production process and fermentation of stinky tofu it sounds like it's probably genuinely good for gut health!
Hope u do plan a day trip to JIU FEN (九分) where the streets and architectures inspired Miyazaki's movie Spirited Away.
🤜🤛 gotta Try it right!!
Bihu Park and Taipei Zoo are a must-see!
To try or not to try stinky tofu, that is the question... 😂 We like your new price graphics, by the way! The sweet potato balls have my attention. 👀👀
"We,re not here to yuck anyone's yum" 🤣 Love it
Kudos for trying the stinky Tofu.
It's perfectly normal to dislike the stinky tofu! its a love it or hate it kind of food! but admire the courage you guys have to give it a shot! should try durian next!
Hahahahaah your faces during the tasting of the stinky tofu…reminds me of my reaction to durian 😂😂
I tried to bourdain stinky tofu there but it fell short for me too, just not my taste but many loved it.
10:35 🤣🤣🤣 你們以後都不會忘記臭豆腐了
It's funny watching you two react to stinky tofu haha! Hope you two enjoy your trip in Taiwan. By the way, I love stinky tofu especially the smelly ones.
Nice! What would you eat right after stinky tofu? Or what does it go well with? Thanks!
0:18 Totally butchered it. But that's ok, we love you Tia.
Stinky tofu is one of those thing most people can't handle unless they are grow up with it. Like westerner's cheese, Japanese's natto. (A lot of people can't handle the more stronger cheese and natto. While stinky tofu is something Taiwanese are used to.)
The other thing to try is the blood & rice cake. 4 things my ex gf, who lived in Taiwan for over 7 years, wouldn’t eat: Stinky Tofu, Blood & Rice Cake, Chicken Feet, and Pig Scalp n Pig Ears. Try them all! BTW, even I, who grew up around RaoHe st., don’t eat the last two items.
That's what i call taking one for the team.. Kinda like durian fruit. I'm surrounded by it everyday. I don't hate the smell at all. I still haven't tried it yet. 😜
The faces say it all!!
I like your comment "we are not here to YUK anyone's YUM." That's a classic. looking at things to do in Taiwan, Lungshan(Longshan?) Temple and Taroko Gorge look pretty interesting.
Please film alllll the night markets!
2:50 the logo on Che's jacket make me thought the bun is loading.
Welcome to Taiwan !
You guys make me so hungry, that I raid my cupboards every night for goodies to eat with you , while you're both enjoying and explaining what's in your meals,!
Hahaha I love this, we have an eating buddy! 😊
Hope you guys are enjoying your stay in Taiwan. There's some great spots along the east coast of Taiwan, Yilan has some amazing hot springs, surfing if you are into that, and amazing hiking trails to explore. The Kavalan whiskey distillery is there, a few years back they won for the best whiskey in the world. Drop me a message if you guys want to explore some other unique spots. I'm about 30 minutes outside Taipei. Props for even trying the stinky tofu, it's definitely not for everyone. I think the stall you got the stinky tofu is the one Hugh Jackman went and had when he was in town promoting the movie Logan. ua-cam.com/users/shortsKSMfWoIdcm0?feature=share
It’s very normal that you have the reaction about stinky tofu, and it’s quite hard to like it in the first time. I still remember when I was young, I hate the smell of stinky tofu and afraid of eating it. However, after you try more times, you will like the complex flavor in it and addicted to it’s unique smelling.
I used to like stinky tofu but two years ago I got sick after eating some. And I don’t know if it was the tofu or something else but since then I’ve never eaten it
Good try on the tofu. At least the tofu color looked decent. I ate one in greenish black as if it were cooked in sewage water. 😄
See if you wanna try Taiwanese iron egg (鐵蛋) next. They can be found as snack in supermarkets.
When i was working in China close to Shenzhen ( i am from the Netherlands) living next to a tofu factory ill never eat tofu again.
Keep up the good work your vids are great 👍🙏🙏
I really want to go to Taipei, after this video, I can’t wait!
You planning on coming to Hong Kong now it’s open?
Definitely plan to visit Hong Kong soon 🙂
@@OnePackWanderers that’s awesome! Let me know if you want any recommendations! Love your channel.
You guys are so cute! Especially when you are trying the stinky tofu hahahahaha. I guess most people in Taiwan just want to wait and see your reactions when they ask you to try stinky tofu
You guys made me laugh when you tried the stinky tofu 😂
I don't blame you hahaha. When I grew up in Taiwan I did not enjoy stinky tofu either. I think the fried ones are better though. Kinda takes out the smell a little...? but kudos for trying it!
