Your #1 tip for crutch control is spot on. One consideration is the width of grip which is standard dimension for most all recently manufactured aluminum and wood crutches, let's say in the last 60 years. Older wooden crutches are designed differently, notably a distinct curve from the arm piece, bowed about the grips. You can then use narrower grips to narrow that area your wrist occupies and allows your lower arm to fit within that gap. Of course this works for those skinny folks, not for you larger boned humans. Now I've been trying to make a choice for the best style of crutches to use, and after 41 weeks(that should read 41 days, but it doesn't) and a dozen to choose from(be prepared) my preferred choice are vintage wood children's crutches, narrow grip, extended to full length, new pads, grips and tips. Way less wood, almost as light as aluminum, and this is my tip after yours: a slight flick of the wrist is all you do to advance the tips, not using your entire arm to move the crutches ahead. Keep your head up, stand like you are at attention and do not move tips to far ahead of your good foot and rapidly advance the crutches, just like how you take a step before your heel contacts the ground. Walking speed is not controlled by how far ahead you move the crutches but how fast you advance the crutches, keeping that gait constant. Whew!Praise the Lord, you have been chosen to suffer but you prevail above all with your upbeat inspiration! God bless you!

Wow that's a great take on crutches! As my experience wasn't for very long I never researched much into them. Now that you've provided a wealth of information, I believe, if (and LORD willing it doesn't) the need arise that I must utilize them again, I'll do more diligent research before settling. Thank you very much for your thoughts and insight! Shalom and blessings to you and yours!
