Great tutorial and worked for me👌🏻 I did these steps around a year ago and replaced the gaskets too. Was perfect until recently but started to pool water in the wheel well after heavy downpours. It’s not ideal since the battery and some electronics are in the boot wheel well. I just replaced them for peace of mind as would likely cost twice as much to replace the electronics if they get damaged. Word of advice is to put a dehumidifier into the car after it’s fixed so get rid of any dampness. Serious design flaw by Audi given the amount of A6’s on the road I’ve seen with the same problem.
Thanks, This worked for my 2012 A6. I used a warm setting on the hair dryer which sped things up a bit and I’ve applied some silicon gel to plug the gaps around the edge, which will hopefully stop further ingress. Just a warning to others, I damaged the clip on the trim piece so be careful when you take it off.
Brilliant video. This worked for me. On mine, I had both lights doing the same. Interestingly enough, I only had moisture on the left hand unit. Dried this out and both units worked fine again.

Just had this happen to my offside rear boot indicator light, will do exactly how you showed the fix, thanks a million,. Going to see if I can find out how the excess moisture got in too, maybe a defective seal or blocked/semi blocked drain holes, I'll let you know how it turns out.
Do you know which seal? Have this happening to me also but a lot more water then you , water pours out of the flaps , constantly drying it out like you but any bit of rain and it is full again.

Tried a self adhesive 2mm thick 5mm wide closed cell foam stuck directly on the existing seal - failed 2nd attempt Thoroughly cleaned EVERYTHING including the black plastic clip on trim and all surfaces of the boot where the tail light fits.. All to like an "as new" condition. Ensured the tail light was correctly clipped on the LHS and lowered exactly into a "snug" location. Loosely screwed in the single fixing bolt to hold the tail light in position. Then made sure the plastic stirrup fixing was correctly positioned, then tightened that up FIRST. Then tightened up the single bolt fixing, Ensuring all was still correctly positioned at every stage. Lastly fitted the black plastic trim. I've had no problems, despite heavy rain since. I believe the success was down to three things:- Making sure all surfaces especially the sealing surfaces were perfectly clean and smooth. This also ensures any drain passages are clear. Making sure the light unit was clipped under LHS correctly and lowered down into position. Tightening up the plastic stirrup clamping bracket first. Lastly, tightening the single bolt fixing Finally clipping on the black plastic trim. Hope this helps Dave. Now got to tackle one of my Headlights, since recently fitting new bi-Xenon bulbs, on of them is getting excessive condensation. Here we go again. So much for Audi's "Vorsprung durch technik"
@@graham7176 thank you for that and taking the time to write it all out , just going to bite the bullet first and get a whole new back set of tail lights as some of the electronics in the light cluster seem quite damaged from all the rain. I'm living in Ireland so quite a bit! Found a nice set and also the new dynamic indicators etc. Will really clean everything thoroughly and get everything as smooth as I can , hopefully this solves it , as I drive around with just the outer tail lights on most wet days, which is quite dangerous and would really prefer not to, has really limited my driving over the past 2-3 months as I try to avoid night time driving due to this
I have a 2013 and took my outside tail light out for minor maintenance. I am having trouble replacing the plastic u shaped retaining bracket. It will not fit from the bottom because the opening is too small.
Hello Adnan. Once youn get any excess water out or off. I heat the kitchen over to 40 deg C (not hot at all really) and I place any item with issues inside and then leave the over to dry things out - I have left items in for over 2 hours to make sure the are very dry.

I have this issue, dried the light out, taped the connectors up incase they were getting wet. The seal looked about rough so put a bit of sealant around it to help it not leak through that. Was working fine, day later it’s not working again and having the indication error again

Hi Parthbhanushali, thanks for the lovely comments. I didn’t disconnect the battery because Audi battery controls lots of other features and will bring more errors. Just keep the engine and ignition off.
I just drilled 5 very small holes in the bottom of my lights this stops any moisture from forming in the lights and allows for air flow did it on my 2004 a4 my 2007 a6 my 2011 a6 with L.E.D s and have had no further issues with fogging or bulb failures.

why is water collecting there? I have the same problem, I replaced it with the original gaskets, the rain will come and it is the same, and I collect water in the middle of the damper. I open the hatch and the water pours out through the actuators from the hatch.
There not much you can do as the sealant was already placed by the previous owner of the car. I think it’s just design flaw and to be honest after cleaning and tightening the bolts, I didn’t get the problem ever since. So hope it continues to stay dry ☺️

Anan I had the same issue with left daylight running light. It’s all got to do with moisture problem. I’m thinking of making another video on how to seal the light with sealant to make it air tight so no water/moisture goes in there. Try drying that light too!!
Do you happen to know what the break light wire is for the tailights? Im trying to wire a diffuser break light and tap into the driver side rear tailight but idk which one is breaks light

The boot lid on is collecting water somehow and when I open it, it is pouring out via the opening near at the hinge but some of it is getting into the rear light causing condensation and that has resulted in the driver side indicator not work some times. I’ve not opened the light yet, do you know if these lights have bulbs or led? Thanks
I have this issue but also have the issue where my right rear break light only works on the outside light bit and not the boot lid. Any ideas if this will fit that also? I mean I know it's worth a shot :)
I’ve not tried a sealant myself but when I was cleaning and drying the light the previous owner must have used a normal white sealant to secure it with the body.
6 months ago,so you might have fixed it,but yes,the only way is to buy a new one,there is no way to open the housing whitout breaking it, i know from experience..my reversinglights died on one side,tried to take it apart to do some measuring on the pcb-the plastic broke in to small pieces and i tried to heat up the glue/compound to make it easier,but nope..3 small diods dead,and probably a 5cent -fix ended up costing med about 300$ for a new light

Yeah it’s the same issue, I had with my left one too, side light was gone but indicator was working fine. Try this method also use a sealant when putting the light back! Hope it helps 👍🏼

I have same issue with 2014 A6. Changed both lamps twice. Bought a new boot seal and still water getting in. I'm in the process of removing, drying and sealing the rubber joint with Granville clear silicone sealant from halfords. Hope it does the job now. Awful bad design by Audi

I have exactly the same problem. After drying, the LED works nicely, but the problem is if it rains again. How to prevent further penetration of moisture into the housing. Did you solve that?
To be honest, it keeps coming back after the rain season. I did try to cover it with some plastic the edges but it’s the design flaw I guess. It’s very annoying!!
I have the same issue, I have found that the boot seal let's ingress of water. Particularly on the right hand side. How would I stop this? Replace the seal maybe or is there an easier fix? Note the seal is in good shape, no deterioration or mis shape 🤔
I had a same issue too. I replaced the gasket. It only lasted about an year. Now my tail light is off again. I haven’t clean and try it again yet hopefully it will work. Still looking for permanent solution.
This keep happening after a lot of rain unfortunately, I just used fresh silicon around the edges the tighten it up. It’s a design malfunction unfortunately so it will creep up from time to time
It takes a lot of drying before it’s full dried my friend. If that still doesn’t solves the issue then I’m afraid the light may be failing and will need replacement!
Don’t think I can get the dynamic lights. I think the fitting is different and I’ll have to change the outer ones too. Just wanting to get these sorted and stop water getting in.
You can get the dynamic lights on your C7 as the fitting is similar. It’s just a design change inside, if I ever change my rear lights it’s gonna be dynamic one. Secondly the problem lies in the design of a car, no matter what we do the water coming in the boot and lights are soaking wet. I live in a city where it rains 5 times a week so it’s hard to run away from this problem 😔
@@Adnankhanchannel1 removed the lights and dried them. Before putting back on applied seal and put back in. Let’s hope they don’t get water in. Also found the rubber grommets and removed them. The lights are now clear and working fine. The lights were working fine before, only some times the driver side indicator would play up for a bit and start working.

Unfortunately its issue with design, it keeps coming back and the only way to prevent is using fresh seal every 6 months to 1 year when doing the drying and cleaning
Drill 4 or 5 small holes on the underside of the light lens this lets any water drain straight out and lets air flow which fixes this issue permanently.
With some problems we cant always fix it without changing the part so sometimes its worth it if we are able to sort the problem out for a couple of week or months depending on the issue… if it was a bad switch sure you have to change it but if its water issues better to dry it with a 20minute work on the car every 3-4 months than spending £250 to buy a new unit… just depends :))

I'm having problems with the passagner tail light sometimes it works find then I hit the brakes and the light indicated comes on staying bulb is out.
It needs drying out probably like ours

I did my m8,s few days ago problem is the crap black end cap on the light, there is a small circle of rubber that’s where water gets in.. crap design

It’s normally seal going loose so may be resealing does the trick for you but definitely dry the moisture, it’s a common issue in these models

Yeah you can reapply the seal, will definitely help but after drying my light it’s been working fine.

Yeah I did the same filled some silicon before putting the lights back on. It’s safe

Apply sealant on the rubber side so it’s tightly fixed and no water/air should pass through. My one is now going well, touch wood 🪵

It’s just a design flaw in my opinion and yeah a seal on lights fix it temporarily but it comes back and we would need to dry it again.

The bulb is obviously replaceable but the LEDs are not!!

Don’t think I can get the dynamic lights. I think the fitting is different and I’ll have to change the outer ones too. Just wanting to get these sorted and stop water getting in.
You can get the dynamic lights on your C7 as the fitting is similar. It’s just a design change inside, if I ever change my rear lights it’s gonna be dynamic one.
Secondly the problem lies in the design of a car, no matter what we do the water coming in the boot and lights are soaking wet. I live in a city where it rains 5 times a week so it’s hard to run away from this problem 😔
@@Adnankhanchannel1 removed the lights and dried them. Before putting back on applied seal and put back in. Let’s hope they don’t get water in. Also found the rubber grommets and removed them. The lights are now clear and working fine. The lights were working fine before, only some times the driver side indicator would play up for a bit and start working.
It’s the condensation that keeps getting in it. I love the car to bits but these random error messages puts me off while driving.
@@Adnankhanchannel1 let’s see if the lights get condensation in now. So do I like the car but these things annoy me. I also get condensation in the front lights. I’m going to try to keep the car for another year or so then getting a A5

Have you tried drying the light? If yes and didn’t help then May be it’s out and will need replacement I’m afraid

Unfortunately its issue with design, it keeps coming back and the only way to prevent is using fresh seal every 6 months to 1 year when doing the drying and cleaning
My Audi A6 have the same problem 😢
Just take the light out and make a drill hole at the bottom it will dry out and stop it from happening again
Sounds pretty cowboy stuff mate, I would be scared to drill a hole in the light. To be honest since I’ve dried them the problem didn’t come back
Drill small holes in the bottom of the lens underneath where they can’t be seen problem solved forever.

Drill 4 or 5 small holes on the underside of the light lens this lets any water drain straight out and lets air flow which fixes this issue permanently.

Why don't you post the way to fix it from leaking water.
All you did was dry the light housing, you did nothing to fix the issue. It will get wet and do the same thing again wtf......
Since cleaning and drying my light, I didn't have any problem with it. I can't fix the flaw audi has but atleast limit it.
With some problems we cant always fix it without changing the part so sometimes its worth it if we are able to sort the problem out for a couple of week or months depending on the issue… if it was a bad switch sure you have to change it but if its water issues better to dry it with a 20minute work on the car every 3-4 months than spending £250 to buy a new unit… just depends :))
