I just wanted to say thanks for everything you do on this channel! Today I just passed both my technician and my general first try! Read the books by AF7KB (Well 3/4 of the general book, going to finish the rest of it soon), and watched the technician class twice. Wouldn't have been able to do it without you!
Congrats!
Thanks for the video. I activated Crystal Cove St Park in CA (cliff side near the water) last month with the X6100 and the XPA125b into a MPAS with the standard whips. It worked a charm at 100w all over the US. You’ll have fun with that setup. 73.
Good to see the 6100 in the wild. Thanks Jason
Great video Jason! I'm going to echo what someone else commented and say I enjoy seeing the x6100 in the wild! I personally plan on getting the xpa125b for ssb contacts, I use my x6100 for cw only currently. That chameleon seems to be working well for you! Thanks again Jason!
After I finished this video I used the amplifier with the radio and it worked very well. I'm going to record another video that shows all of that put together. Thanks for watching
Glad it’s panning out. That chameleon antenna is impressive
Love my MPAS 2.0. It works awesome against all odds and so versatile.
Been my chosen setup for a few months, love it. Think I've even worked you possibly while portable with it if I remember right.
Nice to see the antenna setup. Helps in deciding which radio to get for a first HF rig. Thx
Awesome! Thanks for the video. I just got my X6100 and updated the FW to 1.1.6. Have a CHA Tactical Delta Loop, CHA F Loop, and LEF Sloper from Carl. Ready to have some fun and, test NVIS operation here in Arizona. 73!
Got to love QRM! Great activation! 73!
I think the choke is supposed to go at the antenna Hybrid base and not at the radio end, at least that is what the PDF instructions say for the MPAS 2.0 antennas. Maybe not for the steel whip?
For 6-20m, I don't use the Chameleon balun. I connect the whip directly to a WRC tripod and adjust the whip length for resonance. Works really well. I usually get better than 1.1:1 with 8x 17ft radials.
I have the MPAS 2.0 with CAP HAT and 4 Radials. I use it with the FT-891 and have no problems getting from Ireland to North/South America on 20m, 17 and even on 40m I've managed to make a couple of contacts around 4000 miles, adding 3 extra radials made a difference on 40m but increased the SWR from 1.8 to 2.4 but noticed improved performance, I read that if you notice increased SWR when adding more radials it usually means that ground losses are being reduced.
I've got to Argentina and Chile on SSB and even Australia, I live in a very low noise area so have no problem hearing the DX, the MPAS is a very quiet antenna, the 891 also has a super low noise receiver.
X6100 looks a decent radio but in all the videos I've seen it seems to have a noisy receiver.
Wooooooo! I just passed my Technician test!
Congrats. 3mo old Tech here. Welcome to the hobby. Have loads of fun and 73!
Congratulations continue to enjoy your wonderful experience. I hope you will enjoy it for many years.
And that is the audio from the speaker sounds good
Besides the radio and antenna what else is in the setup? Battery and coax?
I think ABR here in H-town makes the coax cables for the MPAS system.
Yep, I mentioned that in several other videos.
You are the first person to use the included coax/choke in the proper manner- close to the transceiver.
I've used it both ways and found little-to-no difference.
You can put it either way! Both correct as found in the books
I'm glad you did a good activation with the x6100. Curious if it's the same one Mike shredded in his review. I've done about 2 dozen POTA activations with it with zero issues. Thanks for the video. 73
The One mic reviewed is a unit that's been passed around to several youtubers. This one I have, I bought during a presale from Radioddity. This one is a production model, I believe the one being passed around is also production but it's got several different features than mine does, from when I'm told
Nice...........
I’ve been following the reviews/discussions about this radio from you and your friends. At first it seems like you all thought that the radio wasn’t completely ready for prime time. But I see many of you talking about updates that keep coming out. You seemed to have a good time with it in this vid. I’m looking for a QRP rig. I could go Elecraft, iCom, or Xiegu. Clearly there’s a price difference. But, the 6100 and an amp would be really cool, and save me a lot of $$ over doing the same with either of the other brands. For a newish General, and only 2 years into the hobby. Is the Xiegu ready for a newbie or is it more for an experienced ham that’s up for some tinkering to get things working? Or would an Elecraft or iCom be a easier/better experience at this time? Or maybe is the x5105 still worth considering? I’d be starting with just SSB and some digital for POTA. I may not know enough to be successful with the 6100 if it takes some more knowledge than I currently have to get it in the air. Just looking to get your thoughts. 73.
You should do a how to POTA video. Like setup, app or website use for logging or whatever. I'm interested but don't know how. Picking things up from this and went to site...that's it lol
I have something like that upcoming
@@HamRadio2 well when your videos leave people wanting more, you are doing excellent work. Thanks for the videos and hangouts. KI5SXE
@@the_mad_swimbaiter455 Thanks
10 Watts is reduced power.. It ain't qrp! 😂😉 Well done, nice video... I'm loving that beach x
If 5w on CW is qrp then only 10w on SSB certainly is.
Like I said, it depends on the contest
Two two Into MO
26mhz is CB in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Im talking skip there now from Midtown Manhattan.
CB here too
Looks like you are having fun. Where is the XIEGU X6100 HF TRANSCEIVER made?
China
Totally wish I had free time to pota
What is the make and model of the stainless whip? I have the 2.0 and love it.
I have the MPAS 2.0 with CAP HAT and it works so well I leave it up on the front lawn all year connected to the FT-891, I use it in the sitting room for when I don't want to go to the shack. Noticed an improvement on 40m with total of 4 radials, SWR went up but this indicates reduction in ground losses. I should add more for a minimum of 16. Certainly won't be stellar on 40m but furthest QSO on SSB was 4000 miles on 40m.
Interesting to see Galveston to Mobile
You mentioned having a stainless whip, as opposed to what? for the price I would have thought you’d get a stainless whip.
btw, is that the micro or mini transformer?
The kit comes with a telescoping whip, but it is different from the one I displayed in this video.
See my video about the complete kit here

I am looking for about your product place lace me a message . When I post this , I am looking for more information no this. I am looking for all the information you have in this figure where you got everything at cuz I want to use one for emergency or for off-grid or for any time when I'm out off the road take care of yourself and keep up your videos I like what you posted. I show them to my friends and other people
Nice video. I talked to Chameleon and they said the choke should be on the antenna end and not the radio end. You would have got a better SWR. I get 1.2 SWR on the whole band of 20m
They told me the same thing, but it isn't really true. I have used the coax both ways on different outings, it doesn't really make a difference. I would look more at the ground soil composition for changes to SWR when moving locations, over where the choke is placed.
The reason why we're greatly recommending to put the CHOKE at the antenna feedpoint and NOT at the radio is to decouple the coax cable from the antenna thus preventing it to radiates and/or to act as radials.
Next time put the RFI choke right under the HYBRID feed point for better performances and SWR.
Thanks Carl. I will try that, although when I've tried it in the past I've seen little difference on the analyzer. It will be a good test to get on video
Stake in the ground is no joy at some places. Either by rules or situation.
The X6100 seems to be working for you.
I thought that the MPAS 2.0 was rated from 6 to 160m? Even with my Wolf River Coils mini and my MFJ 17 foot whip, I can get resonance on a large portion of the 80 meters band
The MPAS 2.0 is. As I said in the video, the CHA-17 whip is an add-on for different situations. VERY versatile antenna
@@HamRadio2 is the contest winner number for real? Been getting a lot of phishing attacks lately
It is if ya use the 71 foot counterpoise that comes woth it and the choke is at the feedpoint
Jason, how long is the counterpoise are you running on the antenna???
It is the stock version, I think 10-12 feet
The counterpoise is 25' long. But you can also use the 73' long radiator and convert it to counterpoise if needed. Just roll the excess of it on a winder.
You think this would be decent setup to chuck in a backpack?
Yep - especially since the antenna comes with its own backpack

please put the video upload date information next to the view count. thanks!
Uhh..I don't control UA-cam administration lol
How about running a ground to salt water?
I've done that, it works well
Can someone give me the name of the channel from the Russian ham woman rysia or something
YL Raisa
Shouldn't the choke be at the antenna end of the coax?
I've used it both ways and found little difference
@@HamRadio2 Yeah, I suppose when you think about it, it doesn't really matter. By the way, I also have an X6100 and have to say it's an impressive little rig...Ivan VE7IVN
Will you be out there tomorrow ?
No, I am in Alabama right now
@@HamRadio2 Where at ?
Does the radio get hot?
Yeah sometimes
I bet the salt water from the ocean made things really great.
Yep

Very cool. Also, Xi is pronounced “she”.
