I love how every set of night elf ruins “was once one of the biggest/grandest/most important in some way” night elf city. This could be looked as as a continuity error, but I like to think of it as part of the old night elf elitism. Every thing we make is grand and perfect and wonderful and you should all feel lucky if we so much as look at you. Good old pre-sundering night elves
Small, hidden ruin almost NO ONE seems to know about: If you go to NW Wetlands (Coordinates 36.20, 15.75), and follow that line of hills in from the coast, there's a small hidden grove completely covered by a canopy of trees. Inside, after passing through a fallen log archway, you'll find a shattered gazebo arch, with the head of a Titan Maiden half buried in the ground. No mobs, no quests, just an empty lil spot that's super scenic and has been there since Vanilla. GREAT rp locale for druids, dwarves, archaeologists, etc etc. Check it out!
Crendad. Can we get a pointless top 10 leaf particle effects? Like for atmospheres? Or a pointless top 10 zone soundtracks that capture atmosphere of the zone as you travel it
Crystalsong Forest is a pretty cool zone that you just have almost no reason to ever go to aside from flying over it... Like even when it was new content, you probably spent very little if any time there...
Story time. The Argent Tournament was originally meant to be located in Crystalsong. They moved it to Icecown because Dalaran made the zone so laggy nothing could get done. That’s why the zone is so empty
@@Hyzen0_0that makes a lot of sense. With my PC back then I went to dala one time, then spent the next hour trying to get out because my game kept crashing from lag.
I'm pretty sure Lordaeron wasn't just a little bigger than Stormwind, but substantially so. Gotta keep in mind that Stormwind isn't just the youngest of the seven human kingdoms, and also completely destroyed in the 1st war, with most of its citizens killed. And I think when you look at what areas belong to the kingdoms, it reflects that as well. Stormwind is essentially Elwynn Forrest, Westfall, Duskwood and Redridge. Lordaeron was Tirisfal, the eastern and western Plaguelands, the Hillsbrad foothills, and the majority of silverpine. Not just are those areas a lot bigger, but they're also home to several huge cities besides Lordaeron City.
I think it'd be pretty cool if they turned Alterac into something more akin to the Highmaul or the adobe structures from Outland Nagrand, to show the ogres have taken up permanent residence in the area.
I have that same thing when I go to Undercity where I'm like "I really wish I could see how it used to look..." I don't think you could even see a lot of the city prior to Cata, could you? Like, I think a lot of it wasn't really accessible without flying... For so long my only experience of it was just walking through the entryway to the throne room and then into the elevator down, but like... There is sooooo much above ground too over the walls...
Correct you had the courtyard leading to the throneroom and two small side wings which IIRC may have only beed added with TBC since one has the bloodelf teleprot
I am surprised there were no mogu ruins in the video. The Ruins of Dojan in the Krasarang Wilds have a whole fountain of youth! The ruins in the Jade Forest are also interesting. As you venture into Pandaria for the first time, you don't know what mogu are, and the ruins make you realize the land has a more sinister history to it. The Isle of Thunder is basically a giant mogu ruin place. It had a lot of activity when we went there, but it was abandoned for thousands of years. And it used to be a whole mountain before the Sundering! The Mogu'shan Vaults are very mysterious ruins. And I think it is striking how they are built on the mountain side.
Crendor fun fact! Onnearly development maps Alterac city was going to be the original "Dire Maul" focusing probably on JUST the Ogres, maybe with a syndicate wing or Argus Wake demon cult wing
I love ruins in WoW generally. I loved exploring them and occasionally finding treasure chests because no one would ever take the time to comb through them. Azshara for instance, before and after Cataclysm. Naga-infested and foreboding ruins that would occasionally yield phat loot. In fact, I have found treasure chests in those very ruins in Azshara you showed off, before and after Cataclysm.
Green Mist in Emerald zone instead of fog. And all these ruins had great early questing. I also loved Azshara pre-Cata. (Vanilla player here). Also I love the aesthetics of Vash'jir. The opening questing was a bit rough back in the day but once you got the seahorse mount and became accustomed to the dimensionality it was cool. Mostly because it's so gorgeous. Love this channel- subbed.
I tried WoW for about a year when HS gave Liadrin portrait for reaching level 10. Playing a blood elf I got overwhelmed by the Eastern Plaguelands, but managed to get to Kalimdor and eventually to Feralas, that quickly became to happy place. Dire Maul was also awesome, so there will always be a soft spot in my heart for those ruins.
@@KingChayle87 They've always existed, they just don't have models in the game. Plus, if they made new female ogre models (Which they would have to if they wanted them to be playable), they'd probably have to go back and make new male ones too, to ensure they're the same level of quality. It's totally possible, but I just feel like if they were ever going to do it, they would have by now.
you just described like all of my favorite places to just go and chill in. personal number one would be the ruins of gilneas, but that's mostly cuz I love the worgen starting quests, seeing the cataclysm change the map and really feeling the loss and destruction of my character's home. I don't think any other ruins have. such a personal tie in the current world. I also would have put the ruins of stromgard on the list. I always found that area charming.
I've thought of a great idea for an expansion. It's insane and will never happen but still. Remake the entire world before everything went to heck. The whole expansion is a time travel tale where you go back to these ruins in their heyday. There would be so many cool stories you could do. I know you do some of this in the caverns of time but not a lot. Great top ten Crendor.
I haven’t played wow in years, and I still have fond memories of one of Twilight Highlands dailies where you get this dwarf 10 kegs of beer and he says that it’ll last him maybe one day
I feel bullied by Crendor for not adding anything from Ghostlands or Eversong, those zones are filled with mostly nothing but ruins. But I guess it's pointless so it's not a big deal.
Man, you forgot to mention the big scary fish monster which is located beneath the ruins you mentioned in borean tundra. I did the quests there just last week. The mob is a big scary elite, but when you impale it with a harpoon given by the quest lady, its hp falls to nearly zero, then you finish it in a pretty much regular fight.
I don't always agree with the number one pick, but this time it's spot on for me... or maybe that's just the Peanut Butter and Jelly on whole wheat toast while watching pointless top ten at nearly 5am talking!
I've been reading through the Chronicle books and Crystalsong has an interesting history you never really learn if you just played the game because you have little reason to stay in Crystalsong.
Twilight Highlands is woefully underappreciated. I recently let my sub run out(yesterday), in part because there's not much to do, in large part due to my yearning to see Azeroth as it was grew too great for me to bear. I want to see the world pre-Sundering, explore the vast Night Elf empire and see its splendor. I want to see the world before the Dark Portal's opening, walk the streets of the original Stormwind, Stromguarde and Alterac. I want to wander Lordaeron before the coming of the Scourge and Horde, and gaze upon its majesty. I love the many fantastic places we have in WarCraft that I can explore and visit. Boralus, Suramar, Draenor, The Broken Isles, the island nations of Kul'Tiras and Zandalar, and all the rest greatly please me. But the ruins tell of a grander story that I can only dream of, and that makes me a little sad.
pretty sure midnight will have alot of northern eastern kindoms redone were going to gilneas next patch and were still two expacs away so seems like they have that planned as the alliance hub
Huh, I'm kind of surprised you didn't add the Night Elf ruins from Nazjatar since you gave Vashj'ir the first place. Also isn't it funny how the Highborne were this elite of the Night Elf Empire, but they had so many cities? And the descendants of JUST the Highborne became three separate sociates (High/Blood elves of Quel'thalas, Nightborn of Suramar, and the Naga... and also the Satyr but those guys don't exactly have a society) that could rival the descendants of "normal" Night Elves? It feels like this "elite" formed like 90% of their society xD Although I suppose it emphasizes just how big the Night Elf Empire was before the Sundering... and how many "normal" Night Elves had died during the War of the Ancients.
Stromgarde is no longer a ruin; it's been rebuilt. And, canonically, is still standing tall. But I think he should have had Stratholme instead of one of the Night Elf ruins.
considering that the worgen are going to retake gilneas (finally, good for them), i think they are at some point going to update lordaeron, because the undercity is not inhabitable, not even for the forsaken, anymore, so i think they're gonna update the "upper" city of lordaeron and rebuild some of it to be the new forsaken capital ... at least i hope so, what with the recent "we are new lordaeron" stuff. maybe it'll happen when blizzard give us a new and improved quel'thalas, which is supposedly going to be bigger than it currently is, which would have some sort of effect on the surrounding areas.
I think it would be cool if they took the wow classic template and pretty much made an MMORPG out of the events of the RTS games, like it would be cool to play through the events of the first through third wars from an " I'm really in this shit" perspective
