I believe the light arrangement changes depending on what work it is doing. Btw love your layout!

Really? I thought it depended on speed and what the lighting that day was/if it was night. Maybe I'm wrong! Thanks!

@@ILikeTransport when you change the switch the red lights go out? Yes? That means it is hauling a train behind it which will have the blinking red light on the rear wagon which acts as the tail lights. If that made sence

@@ILikeTransport when the lights change on the front it usually means what kind of working it is. I'm sure there is a website which tells you. It's like intermodal is one. Engineers is another. The light arrangements change due to its workings

@@shedspotter6613 with some configurations with some locos yes but often that's not the case, there is a set Night time and a Set day time configuration! Sometimes other configurations exist sometimes for various reasons.
