Watching this because my 4.4L Supercharged LC3 head gaskets are no longer available from GM and I need some..... I don't think I have the skill level to do this, but amazing to watch.
Great work Sam you are a legend, could I ask how you work out the size of hole that needs cut into the sheet metal before you press it to form the lip for the rings. And how do you stop the ring from splitting as its pressed, I have tried to do it myself using your video as a guide but cant form those rings without tearing them. Any help would be very welcome.
You need to use soft material that will stretch without tearing. if you heat steel shim stock till it goes past purple to dull gray it should be soft enough. Other than that maybe worth trying with copper flashing material.
thats awsome work. but dont you need to seal around the water and oil ports because the ring will not compress to same thickness as the metal part and overlaps the metal gasket? i would like to try this on my overhead lawnmower i already bought the metal covered gasket and they told me not to bother with the ring bot it has oil and pushrod openings .
hey, just curious, did you use two layers for the firering, I wasn't sure because in the video you started rounding out a second ring before you put the first ring on, did the second on layer on top of the first? Great Work sir, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
It looks like a head gasket, although not that flat, but how does it perform? The pressure seal would need to be carefully formed so that it does not get too work-hardened as you are not able to anneal the copper and the evenness of the thickness is pretty important for a good seal.
Great video, I have some old tractors that getting new gaskets for can be a pain. Now I need to get some thin copper flashing and a cone to form the rings. How does the life expectancy of these compare to industrially made gaskets?
Gracias amigo muy sencillo práctico y de gran gran halluda disculpa amigo que tipo de materiales utilizas y que lámina para hacer los anillos saludos y muchos exitos
This awesome. I wish I knew how to do this. I had a 95 Taurus SHO, with the 3.2L Automatic. Head gaskets were like 150 a pop because so few people make them b/c there's so few 3.2L's out there. If only I would've seen this video 3 years ago lol
How much would it cost to make headgaskets for vintage 1-cylinder 4-stroke sidevalve marine engines? I would like to have couple for spare as well. I have two different engine Models. Smaller engine is 300cc piston 64mm stroke 96mm. Head size 140mm x 115mm and it has 7 head bolts and small water chanel holes inside Other engine is 820cc piston 82mm and stroke 130mm Head size 190mm x 140mm and it has 7 headbolts and small water chanel holes. I dont have the exact dimensions for the headgaskets right now But I could Make some.
I looked at a head gasket that I have and it is a metal reinforced composite i.e. sheet of perforated stainless steel embedded in a composite matrix - 1mm thickness. The pressure seal ring material is about 0.2mm thick. Your quoted 0.02mm thickness is 1/3 thickness of paper!
I can't confirm what I've been told, but I have heard that some low volume selling generic / hard to find head gaskets were literally made in people's houses in India or near the Middle East. These tools this guy was making the gasket with, weren't just random tools from an average tool box to make a video. He had an actual procedural process to make this gasket. Once finished, it looked professionally made. Now, I'm wondering if this story I was told, is true?
Hi Sam, Great job! I wanna make some small gaskets with inner eyelet. Do u know if stainless steel can be used this way? 2- how can I find a faster way for making this kind of eyelet with a press machine in further quantity?
Hi Sam, great job. I was thinking of making a ring for my used single cylinder gasket out of copper on the already pressed and used head gasket, what do you think. I don't think I can get hold of the composite here in malta.
Hi MXfailwin, the gasket material is Reinforced Non asbestos Composite 2mm ,for the ring you can use Copper 0.2 mm, and for the dichtung it's an L shaped piece i made it, if you want i can send you one for free, or i send you pictures by e-mail so you can make it.
Sam's industrial shop Im in need of a John Deere trail buck 4 wheeler head gasket that isn’t made anymore and nowhere to be found. Do you still make custom head gaskets? And how can I get ahold of you?
FABRICA DE JUNTAS HERMES From dragsters to Caterpillar diesel engines, solid copper headgaskets are common and work great. They are reusable too if annealed before reinstallation.
And this is how even 100 years from now we'll be able to fix a head-gasket on an old engine! Awesome work!
Beautiful Job! This is not as easy as he makes it look.
Highly skilled Craftsman. Great to watch. Make it look so easy

what kind of materials is he using?
Pero Xepatonio non asbestos reinforced composite 2mm and for the ring 0.2mm copper or metal

I think you should press with an adequate force. An excess of pressure can fracture the material. All materials have limits of mechanical properties.

A query is the metal ring any special? or is it any thin plate?
Good work. How much time does it last? Did you probe it?

Where can you get this material?
do we need chamber sealant if we use all copper head gasket ?
Wow...amazing!!
