    This is a great showcase for how both basses have some similar things happening in the midrange, and at the same time can have such different voices.

      its much more "hi-fi" takes up more in the mix less focused on the punch of the fender

      Brian May stole Rory Gallagher's guitar tone and made it his own. Think of how many different guitarists use a pbass but still sound different. The only thing missing from having a unique tone is the uniqueness you as a player bring to it.

    • @WilDBeestMF

      @@jackrussellbruce7565Yeah, I can agree with this. It does not matter whether I am playing a Jazz, a Precision, Rick or even a dang Wal (once..lol). I like to use the very edge of a pick and I seem to coax a lot of grind out of basses. That's my unique touch which my instrument (JB) supports.

    I used to own both.. I have to say they both do have an awesome distinctive sound from one another and both are excellent but I prefer the Jazz with its deeper tones and richness and versatility. I like the thin neck at the top Incredibly smooth action, comfort of the body...a bit heavy but well balanced. I do like the stereo feature on the Rick, its unique sound, lightweight and best to keep both. Just wish my brother wouldn't have stolen my 1968 Jazz bass the turkey......needless to this day, never recovered it and might even be the one Getty Lee owns now..who knows..kinna does look exactly like that one. It's not surprising how you have to change your hand playing style when switching to slap. On the Fender, it's totally relaxed, as expected. On the Rickenbacker, I'm seeing you have to kind of "claw" your hand to be able to play slap on a Rick. Cuz I remember playing one years ago, and was so disappointed in the way it played. Not its sound. But its ease and comfort. It was the most uncomfortable playing experience on a Bass I'd ever had up until that point. And as Chris Squire was my hero, you can imagine that disappointment. And one thing that was disappointing, was I couldn't really slap on the Rick without some difficulty. It was limited in its expression, whereas a Fender gives you a very broad playing field.

    • @OsmarOliveira
      @OsmarOliveira  8 місяців тому +1

      I understand what you’re saying. The jazz is the style of bass that resonates with me the most. Tone and ergonomy wise. However, I’m not disappointed with the rick at all. It may seem as a hard bass to play, but to me it was an easy adaptation. I like to think of instruments as individuals with particular personalities. What may look like disadvantages, actually stimulates me to seek new ways to play and to groove on it. For example, I learned how to properly pick a bass on the rick. I love the way it sounds and how I groove with a pick on it!

Quality was bad (neck way outta shape and the pickup selector was faulty. Superficial reasons I know, but at almost 2k you would think it'd be better out the box). In the end still, despite being sad of getting rid of the Ric as I love the sound, the Jazz feels better for me. And that was the main reason I got rid of the Ric. Neck felt like a tree.
