    Thank you! This was a great tip. I don't usually shoot portraits through live view but this looks great. I have a shoot tomorrow so will try it out.

    Canon USA, couldn't you update the firmware of the 5D Mark IV to the Eye AF Function in live view?

  • @TomHerriman

    I just rented the Mk IV to test as a possible replacement for my Mk III.
    As a prior 70D user, I REALLY missed my articulating touch screen! So having the touch capability back in hand was great!
    But I found a problem and cannot find the solution. Certainly I am missing something...
    When using a lens in auto focus, the focus box, regardless of mode, displays on the Live View screen. It's a little different for each mode, but nonetheless, it's there. If you switch the AF to manual, this box goes away. No big deal, right?
    No, it's actually a rather big deal because now there is no indication of the metering location! Both my 70D and my MK III used a box shape change to indicate AF or Manual, but the box was always there. On the 70D you could tap the screen and meter where you tapped. On the Mk III, if you press the shutter button to half way, it would meter from the location of the box. On the Mk IV, in Live View and manual focus, you don't have a metering option. I can't even tell if it's metering at all!
    What am I missing?

      I don’t know what you’re talking about, in live view mode my 5D IV would still show the focusing point but greyed out when ticking the “Release Shutter on Touch” that sits on the bottom left side of the screen at all times. When that’s disengaged, you can actually manually focus in real time then take the picture. If you have “AF ON” set to activate on Shutter Release then that’s not gonna work. Make sure you remove the AF ON from the shutter button (and using the actual shutter button itself if needed). This way you can work both in manual and AF mode without switching the button on the lens itself.

    With the live view, is the mirror already up? So with a 2s delay I could use the RC-1 remote and get the mirror up function? Because when I set mirror up in the camera, the RC-1 is not working.

      Hi Henrik,
      This question is best answered by our Camera Support team. You can reach them at 1-800-652-2666 Monday- Friday; excluding holidays. Outside the USA, visit our Global website at Canon.us/globalsupport. They can answer questions on specific camera/remote combinations. In Live View the mirror has to be up and the shutter open for light to hit the image sensor and the signal to be displayed on the LCD. We hope this information helps.

      Hello!
      On the 5D Mark IV, you can use Face Detection and Tracking AF. If you want to continuously capture images, make sure you have your drive mode set to low or high speed continuous. See page 160 of the camera manual for how to set this option. Here is a link: canon.us/3AE43bj

    Hello, any idea why my autofocus only works in Automatic mode? If I try to focus using live view like you do at 2:46 it won't refocus when I touch the new desired focus point. In only shows a white rectangle on the place I touch but doesn't change the focus.
    Edit : I found an answer to my question, I had my shutter button set to metering start only. So when you touch the screen, it wouldn't focus. It did in automatic as the settings are overriden.
    So my question is, can you focus with touchscreen without having the shutter button set to AF + Metering (so metering only)?
    And would you know why the highlight alert only shows on pictures taken in automatic mode and not on pictures taken in manual mode? I tried overexposing on purpose but the highlight alert does not work.
    Thank you!

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  7 років тому +1

      Hi Veigue! We're glad to see you were able to determine what the issue was. Whenever you remove the AF function from the shutter button to move it to a different button, autofocus will not start when you touch the screen, only when you use the button assigned the AF function. You can still touch the screen to position the focus frame though.
      As for Highlight Alert not working in the Manual mode, you may need to enable it. To do this, open the menu, then select [Highlight Alert] under the 3rd Playback tab and set it to [Enable].
      We hope this helps!

    Hi Canon USA, would you have a tip to how the zoom in and focus in live view works in MK IV? in previous models (MKIII, I've used), you could switch to live view zoom in to a distant subject then create the shot. This does not work in MK IV.... Thank you.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому

      Hello,
      The focus operation with a magnified view will change depending on your selected focus mode. Magnified view is not possible with [Face detection +tracking]. You can focus in the magnified view if the focus mode is sent to [flexiZone - Single]. If you are set to [FlexiZone - Multi], the normal view will return when you press the shutter button halfway. Additionally, if you are using Servo AF and the magnified view, pressing the shutter button halfway will return the normal view for focusing. Please refer to page 325 of your manual for more details. Here is a link: Canon.us/mw5qy.
      We hope this helps.

    ON the 5d Mk III - do you use that little joystick to maneuver your "felxizone-single" box since it doesn't have touch screen. Also can SOMEONE please explain why the magnify glass button doesn't work in live view and only in playback view. Is there no way to get it back, I think the Mk II has it.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kzer!
      In the video Rudy discusses AF Operation and AF Method. If you want the focus points to continuously track a moving object you need to set the AF Operation to [SERVO] and set the AF Method to [Face Detect Plus Tracking] (1:55) or [Flexizone Multi] (2:06). Remember, to continuously focus and track, you need to continuously hold down either the SHUTTER button or the AF-ON button. When tracking and focus is achieved, the AF point turns blue. See pages 315-320 of the camera manual. You can find it here: canon.us/3Bopfmx. Note: When [Servo AF ] is set, the image-recording quality cannot be set to M[RAW] or S[RAW]. If you choose M[RAW] or S[RAW], the image will be recorded in RAW and will require post processing before use.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому +4

      Hi there. AF Operation is whether the autofocus will be continuous Servo AF or it will focus on the subject once and lock on that position. AF Method controls how much of the available AF area will be used for autofocus and how it is used, such as Flexi-Zone Single, which uses a single small spot for focus. We hope this helps!

      Hi Tom:
      The commonly used pronunciation for CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor is as noted in the Canon video here: ua-cam.com/video/sXDiUbxnBBc/v-deo.html. You can find audio samples of this by doing an internet search for “How to pronounce CMOS.”
