  • A great live version of New Model Army's classic "No Rest" from the Marquee, London.
    Justin's enthusiam, Stuart's blillient bass and the late, great Rob Heaton, holding it all together on drums. The band at its best.
    But be sure to check the new album "High" too as its a blinder!

    This is, and forever shall be, the best lineup for New Model Army. Sullivan, Morrow, and Heaton were a force.

    I was lucky enough to see NMA several times in the early days. And their old stuff is still the best. And never fails to arouse the emotions, even after all these years. No Rest - what a classic!

    Ya know, I'm fast approaching middle age and was chatting with my 16 year old about what I did when I was 16. So we looked this up to prove it and there I am, front of stage. Marquee, Electric Ballroom, Sunday morning hangovers at Camden Lock buying the latest gear and bootlegs. Stuart Morrow the greatest bass player ever. Those were the days. Wouldn't try the pogo for too long now tho.....

    He's a top notch Pick/Plectrum Style Bass Player cutting through the mix and sounding more like picking on a guitar.
    Maybe that's why he was more prominent in the music which allowed Justin to be more expressive with his vocal rather than his riffs.
    These days they tend to have a second guitarist in the band but it just goes to show you how good an instrument a Bass is and how it often gets overlooked in music.
    Some are saying best Bassist ever but that is daft because no two Bass Players are the same and each one has their own unique sound and style.

    • @PrincePurple
      @PrincePurple 6 років тому +3

      Wow, I am just the opposite. Stuart Morrow is the reason why I will never learn to play bass. No way in hell could I ever do one tenth of what he does. Every time I'd pick up a bass I would berate myself by saying to myself, "Man, you ain't no Stuart Morrow. Put the darn bass down." Because of Stuart, trying to play bass would be a blow to my ego every time I picked that bass up. So I simply became a guitar player.

    I have always loved New Model Army's sound, the prominence of the bass being one of the reasons. I've always loved bass heavy music like this. The Subhumans from Canada had a similar sound, prominent bass all over the song. Bliss!! Thank you for posting this wonderful song.

    Real shame about Rob, he was a great guy! New Model Army as I knew it didn't exist after Morrow left or was sacked, they should have changed their name after. Since that point I never listened to them ever again, have just recently started to listen again to the stuff featuring Morrow. Shame too, Morrow never did anything after this either.

      @Imperium Europa NMA have always been contrarian, but to think they're nazis is spectacularly dim. Justin Sullivan's favourite music is RnB and hiphop. Hardly Skrewdriver territory. His long-time collaborator, Joolz, did stuff with Red Wedge. Go on, find me an NMA song that's racist!

    Saw them last night in Barcelona. I was a bit disappointed really. I bought their first three singles & LP & then largely lost interest. I saw them in 1986 & they were OK. Testerday I was expecting a few oldies, but there were only four songs I recognised & a lot of new stuff. It's inevitable I suppose, but the older stuff sounds so much better than the newer material. Too much drumming & not enough of the old bass work. I'm just an old git I suppose.
