You seriously overestimate the quality of heavyweights. Derrick Lewis went to a title shot off of bonking people with sloppy hooks. Ngannou won the title with a big hand and a single stuffed takedown. Alex doesn't beat Jones or Blaydes if they ever get a hold of him. Volkov and Gane are worse kickboxers than other guys he has beaten while also being shit grapplers who won't shoot for takedowns very well.

Every round starts on the feet, so you need a wrestler with actually finishing capabilities to make the takedowns count to judges eyes.
