    Welcome back, Mike! Trust me, you've been missed, but you have clearly picked up right where you left off; this brown trout is a beauty, in its looks AND swimming action.
    It's also great to see again the Zimmtex methods that none of the other UA-cam lure-makers use, namely hot-gluing your cutoffs back on to give you a flat surface on which to base your next passes through the band saw-including those for the angled joint cuts in your swimbaits. I can't for the life of me understand why everybody else insists on doing the latter with guide blocks and a hand saw. I switched immediately after watching your technique.
    My only addition is that I "borrow" the miter gauge from my table saw for those angle cuts. I have a wooden extension on the face of mine, and I simply attach a temporary stop block to it in order to ensure that both angle cuts start at the same point along each side of the bait. Works every time-and very quickly. (I also use the band saw for my tail slot.)
    In any event, I hope we can look forward to weekly postings now that you're back in action. All the best, Chris

      Thank you for watching and for commenting!
      You will see me trying all kinds of methods on this channel if you go through my videos. Sometimes I will settle on a method that I feel works the best for me, but I like to try new things.
      My bandsaw does have a miter gage which I uses, but I think maybe my hand was covering it so you couldn't see it. I am way not steady enough to freehand those angles!
      Now that I have my shop up and running I will be able to post more regularly. However, I do have a long term project that I am working on that is slowing me down a little bit. When it's done I think it will be big for the channel. It's a project on the magnitude of the baby seal lure in terms of uniqueness and detail.
      Thanks a million for stopping by and for your support!

    We also have a Cricut. I attempted to make stencils using stencil material, but was trying to cut too much detail so they didn't turn out as expected. However, when using painter's tape, as you did, it worked quite well. In fact, I used tape to mask a flame design on a popper lure, and used Badger Ghost Tints to paint the flames. I found the Tints adhered to the masking tape as well as the lure, and had to trace a cut line around the paint to keep it from peeling off with the tape. I absolutely love the detail you put into your work! I may try my hand at this lure someday.

    Seeing where you put your sticker reminds me of when I was fishing and making baits. My Dad was every bodies buddy and people that I fished against went to him wanting him to get them a trip with me. I explained why I couldn't do that and he said "I was just an ahole". I started putting an ahole on the baits I made. None were ever signed just a silver oval.

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  Рік тому

      I reccomend weighing it instead of mixing by volume. This will give you a more accurate ratio. The other thing I do is mix for about 5 minutes. It should start clear, turn cloudy, then back to clear again. You also want to do this at room temperature. If its too hot or cold it can affect the curing process. Hope this helps!

    The wire you drilled unto the nose of the lure is not connected to any of the wire in the body of the lure . You mixed the solution to the wire and screw it into the lure so that when the solution gets hard it will hold unto the wood . Do you trust connecting it this way . When a big fish grab unto the lure wouldn’t the wire you connected unto the nose pull out of the lure . I believe you make this lure not trust worthy . I notice when Mike Bucca makes his jointed bull Shad he has a piece of metal sticking out of the very top of the fin that goes directly into the metal part that joint the plug body . To disconnect the jointed plug he would pull the metal out from the very top of the plug and disconnect it .

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  8 місяців тому

      Hello! Great question. I have tested this method in another video and it will hold almost 200 pounds which is way more than your line rating. The bend of your rod and the drag of the reel also help to reduce the actual force. I believe Mr. Bucca is using a pinned joint which allows dissassembly and tuning. Both are sufficiently strong joints. Thanks for your question and for watching!
