    About The Guest:
    Alex Honnold is on the podcast! Who? The guy that free handed Yellowstone? Close enough.
    Seriously though, this was such a great interview. We talked about his two most epic solos that nobody heard about, near misses, lessons from other climbing legends like Tommy Caldwell, Jonathan Siegrist, and Peter Croft, pooping while free soloing stories, how the film Free Solo exceeded his hopes and dreams, the commitment to excellence, and much more!

    Honnold is the master of the heart felt compliment, that is also a little backhanded.
    "...so wrinkly, Because he smiles so much"
    And
    "...wow, a lot of personal growth, he is now the older statesman of bouldering."
    Alex means good.

    Very cool/ the real climber is the one who just always wants to climb; five seven Via Aqua or V17. Sean seems to have flipped his wonderful mom's intensity of the visible personality; for a lower key one. ( when I was coaching if I sent her a question; she would always respond so quickly; effectively and efficiently; but no time for small talk when you are as busy as her.
    But Sean certainly takes that intensity in enjoying climbing and sending hard. Pretty sure mom is proud.

    Bouldering: simultaneously the hardest and lamest climbing discipline.

    • @230mps
      @230mps 9 місяців тому +1

      How is that lame? I love how bouldering challenges me directly with hard moves. I love going back and forth between boulders and the wall. I don’t see how it is lame unless you don’t like falling without much protection.

    • @IronJohn755
      @IronJohn755 9 місяців тому +2

      @@230mps It was a joke. TBH I dislike bouldering because it's too hard. In sport climbing I can at least get into a rhythm before pumping out or hitting a crux. In bouldering sometimes the crux is a sit start. It's great training and guys like Shawn are very impressive, but in my book life is too short - I'd rather be on a big aesthetic wall pulling a lot of moderate moves than struggling my ass off for a week to move 10 feet.

    But you kind of shouldered Magnus into soloing ,who is a 5:15 climber and some folk thought they might end up watching a snuff movie . He looked distinctly uncomfortable at times and admitted as much . So did his girlfriend who heard about it afterwards and also looked a bit upset ! I don`t think he`ll do that again ! BUt Kudos !!! FREE SOLOING (STUFF That will kill you if you fall is FUCKING STUPID), as a former rock climber, who climbed with the best, Walt Shipley, Ron kauk, steph Davis, Cameron Tauge.... fuck all it takes is a unpredicted environmental factor to kill you or at least not of your body.... I Hated down climbing, (but as a women climbing in Eldorado with guys could never get heard), I hated scrambling on routes.. But your afraid to use your voice, as a women just getting into climbing.... I can remember so many times screening at Eric Greene, and Cameron when they would free solo on the famous Crack climb in Eldorado on the bastille, well on late afternoon in March of 1998, I didn't speak out, and followed pete takeda down the west side of the bastille...got caught in a rick slide, fell over 30ft with the all the gear in a pack on my back, and then tumbled down anther 30 to 50 ft.. I'm sitting in a wheelchair for 25yrs now.. fuck all free solos, stupid. Wake up.. the only thing you have no control of is the weather and and what it does to environment.. Alex must have a death wish

      Great to see I'm not the only one thinking this. I'm no more impressed watching someone free soloing than I am impressed watching someone playing Russian roulette. At least the guys who practice the latter aren't contagious and don't do UA-cam videos about it.

      @@zelfjizef454 People have always liked watching extreme sports, and what is your concern exactly? Public praise or otherwise, the people who want to do it will do it. Letting people have control over how much risk they want to take in their lives is a good thing, not everyone wants to live inside guard rails until they're 80. And if others find enjoyment watching them overcome those risks that's also good.

      What are people problems with pursuing extreme sports ? Not your family not your friends. It’s their choice, go worry about people that lose their children and families in unnecessary wars instead.
