Hello, Large Person who owns an Unlimited here! I am well over 450lb limit with my gear(working on not making that the case, already down a few pounds in the past week) probably pushing 600 lbs in total with my gearpod, xi3, batteries, blackpacks, tackle, etc. I can comfortably stand and fish while slowly trolling with no issues. As long as the scupper plugs are correctly inserted, I take on practically no water. I know that in the event I do take a wave over the bow I just need to eventually find a bank, step out of the yak, pull a plug, wait 5 seconds, and go back out. As far as performance, I still get about 3.5mph on the xi3 and maneuver fairly easily. Would it probably do better it I wasn't as heavy? Sure, but it is still an extremely serviceable rig at near weight capacity.
I have a catch 110 that was my “get in the game” option and it’s great for the price. Hell, the motor and battery cost more than the Yak. I can pick it up from the bed of my truck and set it in the water alone easily (put on motor and battery after) so it’s like 5 min ramp time or just put in on the bank off to the side. Can’t compete with new high end stuff to be sure but it’s great for its role and goes on sale. Kinda sucks to paddle but rarely need to.
The biggest thing with the price of kayaks that nobody sees is the cost to make the mold. And the process to make the mold. Take it a step further the cost of the machine that the mold goes into
Gday from Australia Really appreciate all you NERDS have shared today, puts in perspective on why kayaks are the prices they are!! Still in the hunt for my first Yak got it down to native slayer max 10/12.5 or hobie compass!the old mirages vs prop drive choice is really whats rocking me, biggest concern is if i go the native will it struggle in river shallow waters? Thanks ya legends
Both will struggle if it's shallow and you intend to pedal. The compass will be easier to paddle if you have to pull the drive in really shallow sections. Natives are not that fun to paddle. If you do a lot of river fishing, I would consider a good paddle kayak with the option of adding a motor, like the Nucanoe U10 or Crescent Shoalie. If you want pedals, you can't go wrong with the old town pdl 106. Thanks!

What about navigation lights. Trailer light units, spare wheel for trailer.
And the list goes on and on lol. Never used a trailer myself, so we will call that lack of experience.
