I'm not a professional, but I enjoy playing low flutes. I've had a solid silver Gemeinhardt alto for 30 years. I played a Pearl Bass flute a few years ago at the Florida Flute Fair. I compared it to Gemeinhardt, Guo, Trevor James. I found the Pearl the easiest, most responsive. Congratulations on your excellent purchase!
Adrian, you play with such a lovely rich tone! I was happy to hear someone else play on a Pearl bass with low B, as I'm in the market for one myself. I have one out on trial, and my big question for you is how does your 3rd octave F# respond? I'm finding the (3rd octave) middle F# responds well, but the ring finger F# in that register is dicey. This is day one of my 4 day trial, so perhaps I'll get more facile with this pitch, but that really sticks out on this flute, as everything else is quite lovely - trills, range, ease of various articulations, response on every other pitch except that F#. By now you've probably found a way to practice bass flute for longer periods of time. It can be helpful to set up a towel on the back of a chair and rest the end of the body joint on that place for longer practice sessions. Of course, play in short sessions and build up endurance so that performances will be easier, but having a backup is always helpful. Peace.
One thing I have found with this bass flute is that for the upper register there is a sweet spot where you can direct the air and it responds perfectly. You just have to play around with it.
Now when it comes to practice time on the bass, do them in small increments. Start at 15 minutes then add another 15 when you are ready. Because of the low b it is heavier so take your time so you don’t do any damage to your hands.
@@Thedreadedflutist OK; I appreciate your swift reply. I've only had this flute for a few hours, and have spent maybe one hour total on it. Intonation is pretty darn good! One this I don't remember: does your Pearl have the split E? This particular model does, and I'm wondering if the scale with split E is slightly different than for flutes without it. That could make the difference this F#. If you've ever played the 3rd octave A on your C flute without the right pinky - this is the kind of response use I'm getting on the ring finger high F# on this bass flute. I do have 3 more days... :)

P.S. I see now that you have a split E as well. Hmmm.
