They are made from the same heat rated silicone that other kitchen utensils are made from. We haven’t had an issue with them melting so far. The other method we have used is to roll up foil into logs and then place one on each side under the pan to raise it off the Skottle. It will accomplish the same thing. They key is to have the pan elevated and let the heat/steam do the rest.
Cut a thick, old bath towel in a round shape to cover (insulate) the lid... and cut a slit for the handle to project through. The bare metal of the lid rapidly dissipates the heat... insulating it will keep more heat in contact with your food!
