I kinda hope they don't go dark God so early considering how much Raiden did that. Plus I just want Liu Kang to have a break in 1 timeline, he's been catching Ls since deadly alliance with 11 being his only comeuppance so to see him be the big bad and die 1st entry of the new timeline would blow.
I hope part of the plot is that Liu Kang has created the timeline in such a way to avoid mistakes of the past (Sub Zero vs Scorpion, Kitana vs Milena) but accidentally just makes new rivalries in the process between different people
They’ve said “characters reimagined like never seen before”.. Shang has wolverine claws in the trailer AND in his little pre order walk out.. They’re straight up re-working characters.
In terms of your theory, I can see it as Liu having to let Shang kill everybody so Liu can be justified in killing him (showing patience, mercy) exactly how the end of mk11 was. Same way the Inevitability in previous timelines was Raiden and Liu fighting each other. They were able to break the cycle or inevitability in MK11 by working together with Raiden giving Liu his powers. Maybe somebody has to convince Liu to stop killing Shang in order to fix the new timelines inevitable event.
It's absolutely incredible to have a reveal trailer for a AAA game and actually have the game be released within the year it's announced. That's almost unheard of these days.

maybe the lin kuei gain access to special force's weaponry and technology so they can perform movesets that similar to their cyborg counterpart without morally corrupt them
I think the kameo characters will most likely be less popular but identifiable characters like Sareena, Jarek, Kai and the like. They might be locked to certain factions and unlocked for free use with certain conditions/achievements.

Love all of your ideas on this. The duality of you can do this or do that. And maybe I'm crazy but Liu Kang's voice at the end is a nice subtle mix of Raiden's and his voice at the beginning once his eyes light up.
What if this timeline is the one where Hanzo Hasashi and Bi Han actually manage to become Allies for once. What if Kia Liang is the one that hates Scorpion in this timeline. And what if Kitana is the one who invaded outworld and took it over? The story implications are getting me hella excited. Especially since Ed has been teasing for the longest time that we may get something like the conquest mode of the 3D era. Man I can’t wait for this game to come out.
Be interesting to see if they turned the new game into 2v2 tag fights seing 2 characters next to each other. Maybe thata how they advance the 3 fighting type movesets and other tech added through the last 2 games

Ok, the shout out to Bruce Locke from the Conquest series hit me in the feels since I always thought that he was the next best Shang Tsung after Cary (the original).
When Raiden was an Elder God, he was very reluctant to get involved in Earthrealm's business, he was mostly advising. In this timeline Liu Kang is now a Fire-God, and practically switched places with Raiden (who is a mere "human" now it seems), but he seems very directly involved in fights - preemptively. He had a ending in MKX where he becomes like evil, so him being actually an antagonist in his timeline, like a dictator, would be quite interesting take on things.
I'm thinking there's gonna be A LOT of missing characters from recent MK's. This looks like it's taking place in ancient times probably when the first MK tournament took place which I believe is 500 years ago? So yeah there can be a lot of characters returning but it also means lots will be missing too.
@@groovyhoovy2606 Kitana/Melina are super old. Scorpion is from ancient times as well, not sure with sub, might be a ancestor or something. Kung Lao is prolly the great kung lao. Certain chars have been around for centuries. On top of the fact this is a fresh start, pretty much a reboot of the story and Ed said a new game engine style to the gameplay (we aren't sure how assist work yet but variations are rumored to be gone) so I also expect many changes to the roster.

What if they do like a Professor Snape Harry Potter twist were Shang Tsung was always on the good guys side but had to be an Inflitrator. Hence why he lost in the 10th tournament because he had no other choice and even knew he could die, but he knows about some higher power or future threat and has to be the savior? Idk in Stoned.
my theory is that this is the first minutes of the game...and this isnt the time line of the game... maybe even shang tsung isnt the main bad guy because he kill him in the start... its just liu explaning that he try to do this right and he fail at the start because shang tsung keep killing them all before he kill him..
With the timeline reset, they are showing only 7 characters and 1 villain like the original MK1. With the preorder reveal, it is possible to have 7 playable characters: Scorpion, Raiden, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung and the villain being Liu Kang.

Beyond happy to finally see Netherrealms new MK next and akin to MK11 very short turn around. Didn't get the gameplay as we usually see but story focused and showing a lot of the roster still great (predicting next week for gameplay). I'm thinking its Shang Tsung from his timeline where he won Aftermath and potentially whoever he brings that wasn't in Liu Kang's new timeline but warped to be evil and his side. As for Liu Kang I'm still thinking he's good with him allying himself with characters who were former rivals he changed to be good allies. (Like how Edenia looks fine yet Mileena still exists) just them now facing against Shang Tsung's inevitable evil and whoever he brings.
