  • UPDATE 04/11/24... There has sense been released a version of Thorium that works on Windows XP. It is very similar to Supermium (of course, it is based off of Chrome, and uses some of the same patches.) I have been using it for 2 days now, and it seems to work just as well as Supermium does, and also does not have the stability issues that Supermium does after extended use. Both are great browsers, but I do prefer some of the visual aspects of Thorium over Supermium. (I also like that I can pronounce the name.)
    Of course, I always appreciate any developers making stuff for XP, and both browsers are still under constant development and will continue to improve.
    Also... I am aware with the controversy that was associated with Thorium a little while back, please don't let me know because I DO NOT CARE.

    NOW, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A MODERN VERSION OF FIREFOX WORK ON WINDOWS XP. MyPal 68 is outdated.
    Useful information:
    The newest generations of CPUs that officially support Windows XP are the 3rd generation core CPUs. My recommendation for a budget friendly pre-built XP machine that will be reliable, stable, and fast is a Dell OptiPlex 9010 with a core i5 or i7 (3rd gen,) an SSD, and 16GB RAM using a PAE patched version of Windows XP. These can be picked up for under $50, and are well worth it. But anything with a Core 2 Duo or later should be adequate if you already have it.
    The PAE patch which allows up to 128gb RAM to be used: (please note that on certain hardware this can cause the system to become unstable. I can not guarantee that it will work well on any hardware other than what I have mentioned above as I have not tried it. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CLOSELY.)

    Software I use: (not sponsored in any way, or guaranteed to work for you.)
    VideoPad: (claims to require Windows 7, but works fine on XP)

    HyperCam2: (old, but still works great. Screen recorder used to record this video.)
    archive.org/details/Unregiste...
    FreeCam 8: (another great screen recorder, still supports XP as well.)
    www.freescreenrecording.com/
    K-Meleon: (browser for XP)
    kmeleonbrowser.org/download.php
    MyPal: (browser for XP, better than K-Meleon)
    www.mypal-browser.org/
    MiniBrowser: (modified version, Chinese browser SAFETY UNKNOWN. Works well.)
    msfn.org/board/topic/182876-3...
    Supermium: (Browser for Windows XP and 7. So far the best one I have tested, although some issues still exist as shown in video, it is under development constantly and will likely improve substantially over time.)
    github.com/win32ss/supermium
    Here is a link for a list of a bunch of other software for Windows XP: (please note that I did not compile this list, any complaints or questions about this list should not be taken up with me as I did not create it or have anything to do with the contents or links of the list.)

    Windows XP has done really well compared to the older versions of macOS.
    Don't even get me started on how my mid-range ThinkPad from 2012 beats a top of the line MacBook Pro from just 4 years earlier as far as usability today goes.

      Trust me, I know. I used to collect old apple computers from the colorful era of apple, and although they are beautiful, they are useless. Apple decides that you can only upgrade a few versions of macos before it is "obsolete." It is even worse for the power PC stuff, which was obsolete back when I was collecting it around 2012 and was completely useless. Meanwhile a PC from 1999 (the same time as the iMac g3) could run XP and still do almost everything just fine. Even today, PCs from 2004 and up are still able to do plenty of modern tasks online with Windows XP or even Windows 7, but a mac from less than 10 years ago is obsolete.
      I have a 2011 MacBook pro, and although it is a decent machine hardware wise, the latest OS I was able to get it to run (with a patcher) is Catalina, which came out in 2019, but is already getting to the point where stuff won't run on it.
      The latest OS that machine officially supports without any patchers is high sierra which came out in 2017, and is pretty much obsolete at this point.
      What is even more absurd is a PowerMac G5 in 2003 would have cost around $5,900 new ($10,800 with inflation) and it is completely useless these days. Comparing that to the cheapest Dell system you could buy then, the Dimension 2400 cost around $500 (850 with inflation) and is still completely usable with minimum RAM upgrades with modern tasks on Windows XP or 7. I know because I own both systems.

      @@WalterKnox Apple returning to their own proprietary RISC based processors is certainly not gonna help this manner. While more powerful and power efficient, will enable Apple to force planned obsolescence on us even more!
      Heck, I bet even the Qualcomm Snapdragon powered ARM64 based ThinkPad X13S that uses a similar architecture will still be usable long after it was discontinued (because Lenovo actually makes it easy to put Linux on their machines), and the Apple Silicon powered macs from the same time period will be unusable.

    Ah yes, the good ol days of windows XP. It still has some potential and life left in it, especially for retro gaming where modern OSes don't necessarily have proper compatibility with really old games. Plus it's nowhere near as bloated as modern windows versions.
    Your channel is pretty neat ngl, idk how I even got this in my recommendeds but it's one of those hidden gems that YT just shows me.

    Ive been using Windows XP for the past 10 if not more years, never had problems with it, still using it on my Lenovo ThinkCentre M81
    But since a lot of programs i use dont work with XP, i am now stuck with Windows 10 thats made to mimic Windows XP

      I have yet to run into many things that I am not able to accomplish with Windows XP. The only 2 I can think of was a program I was using to remove ads from the lock-screen of an Amazon Fire Tablet, and Team Viewer which I use on occasion to help people with their computers. For those things, I have installed a Windows 10 virtual machine. Other than that, everything I need to do still works 100% fine on XP.

    Would you recommend paying $1.89 a month for avast premium? Or is it not worth it in this economy? Is it necessary if I want to log in to more sensitive info? Or no since the browsers themselves are supposed to be secure.

    • @WalterKnox
      @WalterKnox  3 місяці тому +1

      I have the same feelings about that as everything else. If you are going to be smart, and you are using trustworthy software, then you should be safe. If you aren't going to be smart, and are going to download things you shouldn't and visit dodgy sites without an adblocker, then it doesn't matter what anti-virus you have; you are going to get infected either way.
      The browsers are supposedly safe, and I have seen nothing to demonstrate otherwise, I do banking and log into all of my accounts, and I am fine. But if they weren't Avast premium won't help you any more than the free version.
      The free version offers basic real-time protection, and in my opinion that is all you should need.

    • @RedVRCC
      @RedVRCC 2 місяці тому +1

      Windows defender, as much as people meme on it, is actually quite capable nowadays. No antivirus can save you from poor PC use practices, so be smart about what files you download and what executables you run and you'll be just fine. Defender has done well enough for me when combined with smart usage practices for over 6 years now, my system is still clean and uninfected.

    • @WalterKnox
      @WalterKnox  2 місяці тому +1

      @@RedVRCC Yep. The best anti-virus to have is common sense and good computer usage practices. If you are being stupid, it doesn't matter if you pay money for the best anti-virus in the world and have the most up-to-date secure OS in the world, it is still a good chance you will get infected. The built in anti-virus for Windows is fine. I used Microsoft Security essentials for years, sadly it isn't supported anymore. Avast and AVG are the only ones which still support XP that I know of at this point, but for Windows 7 or 10, just use the built in one and you will be fine if you are smart.

      Yeah, I saw someone else post complaining about it. I really hope they don't roll that out to everyone, because that is a HUGE downgrade.
      I seriously can't understand why they can't leave what is working well alone, and fix things that need to be fixed and ad features that actually need to be added.

      XP loosing support didn't really change much. It still works fine. XP is far better than Windows 7, Windows 7 is the last good operating system Microsoft made, but it still isn't as good as XP.

    I was riding along the trail slightly in the wilderness. The locals mentioned a creamery there. Where they had organic ice creams, and cakes all without toxic aditives added to our horrific food. Such as Titanium Dioxide and caramel color. I rode on in and set my bike on the wall. An incredible great thrill surged though my viens as I walked into the building. I took a look around, and as I did the thrill surged. I had spotted raw cows milk.However, the greater sight was the raw unpasturized milk. I had to get it, I grabbed it and took it to the register. It was so hard to contain the thrill, I didn't want them to know I was planning to drink it. So I bought it and ran home. The thrill was coursing through my veins a sI took the first sip... I was speechless, it was the best milk I ever had, I could not believe it. Every sip was a monumental thrill. Un fortunately it was only half a gallon. So I had to spare it to last 5 days. But I will never forget the first time I had real milk.

      It seems like many people started out with XP, it makes sense though because out of all of Microsoft's operating systems, it was the longest lasting. It came out in 2001, and you could still buy a new computer which came with it all the way up until around 2010. And it was supported until 2014, so 13 years. But it is still very prevalent for how old it is even to this day. Other than Windows 95, it has had the biggest impact out of all of the versions of Windows in my opinion.
