- Today I try out my new Makita XSH06 7 1/4" 36 volt cordless saw for the very first time! I talk about it's features and put it to the same test that I subjected my other cordless Makita and DeWalt framing saws to. The results are NOT as expected! Enjoy!

I just ordered this on sale at Home Depot. Haven’t received it yet. I’m actually afraid of circular saws. I’m new to woodworking. And this is my first circular saw. I’ll be ok if I follow safety guidelines and don’t get complacent. (I want to have ALL my fingers intact and functional for the remainder of my life. 🙏)
You may want to pick up knitting instead. But judging you by your comment you may poke your eyes out, Have you thought of cooking. Nope not a good idea. I think you are screwed.
I got the xsh06 a couple years ago off ebay new for $75 . It's an amazing saw but i ordered the base plate for the 08 so i could use it on my festool tracks .I use the track saw alot to cut crap and the blades for 160mm track saw are not cheap .you can get a 7.25 for next to nothing so if you hit a nail it doesn't hurt so bad😊
I bought that one last year. For a lefty, easy to use, works great. Easy to see line. But, all dust gets on you, okay with me.

Hey man I’m lefty too. I take some zip tape and tape off the dust port. It helps a lot. I install a lot of fiber cement siding so dust is going everywhere. Definitely helps. Try it out

A right blade sidewinder is used because there is no dust with a right blade saw. Many haven't noticed, but a left blade Worm Drive saw blows all the dust in your face, and the right blade saw blows all the dust cleanly onto the ground. The right blade saw has a 95% reduction in dust, because it has a dust ejection port, which pushes the dust away from your body. It's really unfortunate that people are so focused on the location of the blade, they never actually observe the severe dust problem on a Worm Drive saw. (If you're left handed, you can use a Worm Drive saw, with the blade facing away from you, and reduce most of the dust---but some Worm Drive still do not have a dust ejection port on them.)
I don't know if you're left handed or not but the direction you're cutting is slightly binding the blade for a general rule of thumb all cuts should be made with the cut fall off on the blade side I`m right handed and have ryobi brushless left hand saw and it always cut way better when the cut fall off is on the blade side left side right hand saw right side fall off, cutting any other way does bind blade and have significant drain on battery performance
Thanks for the comment, yes I am left handed and think I mention it several times in the video because circular saws seem to be the most effected by a persons handidness? (Is that a word?!)
Uk version has the depth sticker in metric. No idea whats underneath.
Also for crosscuting timbers, stand at the other side of the bench so the largest part of the blade rests on the length of timber using thd right hand.
To cut sheets, use the saw with your left hand.
Over time it becomes natural.
This goes with tracksaws too.
Use the left hand instead of trying to reach over.
What you say about hand position is correct. I am left handed so I am most comfortable with a worm drive style circular saw. The base plate or foot or shoe, is opposite of the sidewinder style of saw. I have a Festool TS75 track saw and the track forces me to cut the "correct" way. The only power tool that I have become really good at using right handed is a chain saw. Using a chain saw left handed puts the users face directly in line with the bar which is really in case the saw bucks. Thanks for the comment!
Interesting. It’s good if the thermal overload is taken up by the batteries rather than burning out the motor itself. Maybe the batteries were just exhausted and needed a recharge? Would a corded saw do better? Does a corded saw “overheat” and shut down? Or just start smoking and burn out? Thanks, L
Does the blade guard bind up on the XSH06PT right blade Makita 7 1/4 LXT saw? One review, the man never changed the height of the blade, and kept having blade guard issues, where it wouldn't open properly. In the past, I've found that you have to set the blade height higher if the blade guard is snagging on the board. I'm wondering if Makita changed the guard, or if that other review was user error?

Great review I just ordered this saw I wanted the worm drive but worm drives only come in left handed witch is why why worm drive is comfortable for you I already have the 12" 36v makita miter saw so I have the batteries and duel speed charger just ordered the saw bare tool XSH06 on Amazon for 85$ and your right im on the east coast NY we all use the sidewinders and your also 100% right about this saw not being for someone left handed i have used both left and right handed sidewinders and the problem I had was I would grab a 2x4 with my left hand and all the weight and table of the saw is on the part that is going to fall it's really key to use the proper saw for whatever hand is dominant.

That material looks almost double the width of a 2x4. Just not fair to compare.
The boards that I used for the cuts were 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" square (4.52 sq in). The cross-sectional area of these boards in square inches are LESS than a standard 2x4 (1 1/2" x 3 1/2" 5.25 sq in) so I assumed that the saw would actually make more cuts than advertised. That said, I would love to see other tests performed using other methods by other people and see how this performs. In an earlier video, I put the Makita and DeWALT (worm drive) pattern cordless saws through the same exact test with the exact same material. To keep everything as equal as I could, I changed out the factory provided blades with brand new Marathon 24T blades in all three saws. These blades are thicker at the tooth (wider kerf) than the factory blades so that may have helped reduce the cut number. Thanks for the comment and have a good one.
