  • I had to replace the chrome window molding and weatherstripping insert on my car. It ended up being more problematic than I thought. I ended up trying three different types of window seals; and, I found that the .045" thick glass setting tape was the best option. My goals were to not damage the window and to avoid removing the window.

    I am glad to see I am not the only one struggling to get the new aftermarket channel on my chevelle using enclosed seal which is just too tight sliding back off within seconds .Thanks your trials and insites are useful .It is important to note aftermarket parts often have decreased tolerance resu;lting in challenges in fittment .

      Unfortunately aftermarket is the only option available for certain parts and like you said don’t fit exactly right. Hopefully I don’t have to do mine again anytime soon. Ha. It was a fun project though.

      Chris Ludwig You are right. I think that’s awesome that your keeping all the trim original. It’s all about supply and demand; the price for original and NOS is a lot higher. So my hats off too you for being willing to invest more money on your project for a quality build and your attention to detail.

    I have done this on my 1971 Chevelle, if you first wet down the window and use some dawn, you can get them right on.

      Richard Minnigh That’s a good point that I didn’t cover. I did use soapy water to insert the rubber inserts into the chrome molding, and I totally agree with your method.

    I have the same set on my car you need to use rubber cement or weatherstripping adhesive as a lubricant before it dries and it goes on no problem and stays put!! I would have bent mine I half if I spent that much time with it too..

      1970rallye350 I actually ordered off of EBay. Search Window Edge Channel Glass Setting Tape. I found most places sold it by the roll which was expensive. I just checked my purchase history and the tape I ordered off eBay is listed as Mopar application. The 24 inch strips were more than enough for me.

    How did you remove the old chrome trim man?

    • @chevellebymanny9457
      @chevellebymanny9457  4 роки тому

      bill williams I was lucky and mine wasn’t set in with glue. Some people install them with adhesive; which would make the removal more difficult. You may have to remove the black rubber insert first rather than taking the entire piece off. The top corner of the glass has a slight indention where you may be able to pry easier; just be careful with the glass.

      Often when the molding are stuck you heat the molding up with a heat gun and they will come right off.

      It’s called glass setting tape. There’s several thicknesses available; I used .045 inch thick.
