The professor who was elated and exhilarated by the massacre of Oct 7th is still working and his career has not suffered. There’s definitely a double standard in academia.
Absolutely agree. These academics are no different to anyone else and do not deserve special treatment. Most of the ones I know certainly have no idea about real life. They live in their own private world that is so far from reality that it is so wrong. This Timming guy is a areal dick.
Here in the UK, Universities, education, the institutions, the law, and society in general, is riddled with misandric double standards....... its all good and well, until its directed at women and girls.
There is a special kind of irony where a human resources specialist becomes a victim of the human resources department! Surely universities should be encouraging critical thinking and open debate, not political conformity and ideological bias? If the university could demonstrate that the professor had failed to properly teach his subject, they might have a valid case. However, if they are simply trying to control his behaviour and restrict his ability to express a personal opinion on an open platform outside of the university campus and beyond its remit, I think the university should lose this case in the Fair Work Commission.
Academics do not have a right to be offensive and shocking. They have a right to express an alternate view, as long as it is considered and with factual backing. If academics believe it is their right to offend and shock, education has failed them!
Thanks Professor, please keep it up… when it comes to the left the double standard applies… diversity is not about diversity it’s about conformity, particularly conformity of opinion and this is bullying you to conform. Let’s see how deep this rabbit hole goes.
You are free to say "anything you want," but you have to "take responsibility for your words." Example, a cannibal can say eating human flesh is tasty, but he has to be responsible for what will happen when people become offended and even proactively try to remove or restrain the threat in front of them.
@@MrMattias87 this is "cause and effect" for every action there is always a reaction. You will never completely get everyone to see things your way. That's why you are responsible for "your words and actions."
@@MrMattias87 These days you are or have you not been following the news for the last decade or so? It is always based on the perception of others and not your intent.
Keekong. Are you saying you think it's OK if people become violent because they're offended? ... And that therefore anyone who says something that could, " in all the circumstances be considered offensive" is themselves, rather than the person taking offence, responsible for any such violence on the latter's part? If someone is offended, they have a right to say so and why, and offer an alternative interpretation, but NOT a right to respond violently.
sounds like RMIT were in a weird form of damage control... something they drastically overreacted to then tried to cover it up with more lies... I'd probs disagree with things the Prof says, but University is about disagreement and growth, there is a point of 'offensive and shocking' that is a risk, protected or not, there are still repercussions, but clearly, this wasn't it... need more of the story, because I feel like it's either missing something, or RMIT really did act f****** stupid...

Bravo to u Professor an good luck with your case which am sure u will win an ace. 😊❤
Freedom of speech isn't conditional upon your occupation and shouldn't be qualified as such.
This is so wrong. It's time to defund these universities.

lets just defund the country next shall we?
Not gonna happen. It's also ridiculous to expect it to happen.

I have a right to offend, and I do and enjoy it.

Remind me of 1984! Big brother is watching you! You are not allowed to think and speak differently from big brother!
They don't have a right to lie or embellish
Where is the lie or embellishment?
All have that right. You cannot moderate speech for the offended, because there is always someone offended.

I'm sorry, but there's no place for controversial ideas at university!!
Sounds so familiar! Communist party definitely likes that idea!

Hopefully, Prof Timming can get this sorted professionally. But I seriously doubt it.

Bollocks, you are only responsible for your own words, you are not responsible on how others feel or how others interpret your words.
That still is not an argument for curtailing speech, nor is it an argument for self censorship

Academic is just another name for a failed teacher, now just an activist or groomer 😊
I def don’t support your views. Yet, cancellation is a disgrace, especially in academia.
