What a lovely little town. There are tales that our family came over to America from Ipswich in the 1600's to Massachusetts. This is so awesome to get to see the town they came from so many centuries ago. To see that old building still there is incredible. To think some of my ancestors were on the streets where you are now walking, is really something. I can hardly wait for the second part.
Hey, mate, I live in Ipswich and your tour is top class, street, and perfect for us regular people. And, I really must say, the lady with you does you proud, she is clearly a warm, charming, smiley, easy going personality - well done, and have a good life. David.
hi mazzy 👋 another good upload hi Dan lovely place liked that building in white are you going in that Irish pub have a pint or a spirit you might see one Happy Easter lve just had a salted choc chip hot cross bun ....yummy from tescos. they are delicious see you for the next one 👍
I used to work for Sun Alliance who were in the same building that Giles worked in. Also worked for Willis Faber & Dumas in their amazing building when it opened in 1975. Officially opened in June by Harold Macmillan who was the father in law of Julian Faber. It snowed. Or maybe my memory is playing tricks with me.
Hi Dan, great video as always, love you and Mazzy. One thing I need to rectify at 6.28, the writing are in French and it says basically "God is my right", same around the legend is in French. All right French comes from Latin but... Happy Easter to you Mazzy and your Families, Joyeuses fêtes de Pâques, best regards from Finland, Pascal
Carl Giles was the funniest, sharpest and most topical of cartoonists from the days of my youth...I had a long collection of his annuals which I was forced to dispose of some years back...something I've regretted ever since...great episode...thanks Dan and Mazzy...
“Honi soi qui mal e pense” is French for “Evil be upon he who thinks evil”. “Dieus et mon droit” is Latin for “God and my right”. The first is also a motto of the Royal Engineers.
There used to be an ABC cinema there back in the 80's I am from Ipswich - it I a great city - recently voted on the top 15 towns in Europe -also a hub for insurance companies- the Willis building won architectural awards back in the 70's. Now it is full of coffee shops!!!
Sorry to be a pain Dan, but in 6.16 The lower part of the coat of arms "Devet et mon droit" means "God and my right" i think Dan means in the center of the coat of arms. "Honi soit qui mal y pense" "May he be shamed who thinks badly of it" and its old french not latin

The Giles statue points to his flat where he lived.

I can trace my ancestry back to a Christopher Smith (1532-1570), an Ipswich native, so I've enjoyed your video.
You are going to make Ipswich the next tourist hot spot.
Ipswich deserves it :-)

Hi, I'm planning to visit next year, what's it like nowadays with the economic crisis? Are local shops struggling?
