- My first New Guitar Day of 2020 was right at the beginning of the world going crazy! Finally I finished the unboxing and story behind acquiring this guitar and what drew me to it. We will go over the specs, and what makes this somewhat unique in the PRS Guitars catalog, along with how I discovered it, and my journey as a new Opeth follower in 2020.

Fredrik Akesson PRS Guitar in 2020! Opeth in 2020!
Watershed was the first album featuring Åkesson, though Peter Lindgren is also highly appreciated.

Opeths "lead" guitarist Fredrik Åkesson, you pronounce the Swedish letter "Å" like you are pronouncing the "O" in the English word "OR" Black "O"R white, so Fredrik "OR"kesson without the "R", maybe that helps :D Really nice guitar! I have the PRS SE Standard vintage / cherry red with the zebra pickups and matching cream white binding on it. I love that guitar, I bought it brand new for 650$/€ 2 years ago and for that money, to get the unmistaken PRS sound it is really great.
I would really like to find and add the PRS SE Mikael Åkerfeldt signature guitar to my collection though but it seems PRS stopped making them many years ago and they are very rare to find used :(
Neat guitar Ryan. You can see the grain in your close ups. I can understand why people would expose more of the top's finish. My Gibson LP Tribute in honeyburst with P90's, locking tuners, and chambered is my latest "go to". I just got it back from my guitar guy. Did a set up and changed the strings to NYXL's (10's). Gunna plug it in here after I finish this comment. Lol

I actually ordered it before things went to crap if I remember correctly.... then things went crazy
The new Indonesian ones are still great, buddy of mine has one. No worries there. I do like that they started putting the full signature on the newer ones, shows how they stand by their product

Me too, I just do not get it, I thought they stopped building these Opeth signature PRS guitars like 8 years ago ?!? Can you still buy them new ? WHERE?!? I have been searching for that Opeth Mikael Åkerfeldt signature PRS guitar, the red one with gold electronics and matching gold Opeth logo on the bottom of the front, if anyone knows if you can still buy it somewhere, please tell me, I got to have it in my collection. Even though these guitars are not expensive, being SE models , that guitar to me is valuable, special to me :)

My go to guitar right now is a partscaster strat I picked up at my local music shop for 300 bucks. The pickups are amazing it has a Warmoth neck with ebony fret board. But after watching your video I'll have to play my Zak Myers PRS SE (the one in the front in my profile pic). I haven't played it in a while, so it's time to dust it off!
I have 2 of these for 4 years now.. They were picky for pickups. But finally have some hotter PAF style pickups in them and they both rock. Ps, I refinished both of them.
I would like to satin the top of mine. Would just hate to ruin it lol
@@RNAMusic I sanded them down to the veneer and the back of the guitars to the wood. Stained the veneer sort of a Dragon burst on one and the other I painted the whole thing a white sparkle. If you do, just take your time.
I went 5ys between NGD :-( this year Ive gotten 3 :-) Thankfully Ive been able to take advantage of the inflated used prices to sell of some great guitars that I just wasnt bonding with, of coarse $3200 in government stimulus didnt hurt either! PS I play sitting down and like BRIGHT inlays, so i stay away from Abalone these days.
Random info; 0000 steel wool is also good for cleaning chrome and glass. On the glass it has to be like window glass, DO NOT use it on a mirror or any tinted glass!
Edit: Also do not use it on your TV screens! that isn't a normal glass, if its glass at all.
Why do the birds look green in videos where Fredrik has it? I have one and the birds are white-ish.

I don't know....sanding off the finish might make it look blotchy. The neck looks pretty good at least. I like that model - mostly because of the thicker body. I'm still gassing for a Tremonti or Zach Meyers.
I’ve seen several examples of the sanded top, they all look great.... just concerned I would botch it lol
@@RNAMusic Just be careful around the edges and curves. Finishes are always naturally thinner there and you have to be careful sanding.
Check out his playing with Talisman. Fredrik is a great guitar player. I just scored one of these from GC for $399

Å in Åkesson sounds like awe (as in awesome). But generally Åkesson (and Åkerfeldt! And the Skarsgård actors) have kind of surrendered to the internationally more intuitive pronounciations 😂
I was interested in this model when they 1st came out. My local store, Elderly Instruments, got 2 of them in and both of them played like ass, quite frankly. I wouldnt have paid $100 for either one. Lost my GAS for one.
I'm sure there are great-playing ones out there, just not the ones that Elderly had.
