My best friends dog is 4 and he's a pit. He has always been so sweet but he is definitely fear reactive on a leash or even off leash around men and dogs. He did not used to be but he has gotten really reactive to the point that she had him in her car and a dog was fown the road and walking nicely and he bolted out of her car.. he immediately attacked the dog. Now she is completely petrified to take her dog on a walk and won't. He drags her all over doesnt listen to almost anything she says no matter what she does even in the house to where if he knows he's going out the door he is instantly all over the place and very vocal. I have gone over and worked on making him calm down before he's allowed out the door and it takes a LONG time for him to get there and he still is almost never ready for it. I wish she could afford to come see you your only a 3 hour drive away! I'm so sad for her and him because she's at a loss of how to fix things and him being inside is only going to make his excitement more intense 😢
@@laceylou4155 Well thats a pitbull, why would she get a dog bred for fighting and then be surprised it attacks other dogs? @@dogsenseforu301 So I don't know how to say this but that's a stuffed dog, not real, fake. Luna is not aggressive and this was a fake golden retriever, noones business is at risk.

My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Credit to the owners for taking responsibility and getting him the best help. It is really hard as a owner to show ones shortcomings in public, but we all learn from this, thanks!
After watching this channel and more like it I've learned to accept and learn from the mistakes I made with my first dog, now I work on being a better leader to her. And its been worth it.
@Jen D. not just pitbulls, mastiff, german shephards, rots, dobbies, malinos, etc are like holding a weapon ready to fire. The bites from those dogs are waaayy more severe than a pitbull.
@Jen D. I agree, but also all breeds large and small. In my complex their are two dachshunds that are obnoxious. They chase after people walking by, and bit my neighbor. Just because they weigh -3lbs, doesn’t give the owner the right to use their size as an excuse.
I incorporated more directional changes into my own dog's walking after watching this, and bingo---it really improved his heel. I walk dogs at an animal shelter, and leash reactivity is the biggest challenge we have. Thanks so much for the details about how to make the turns, the leash slack, all of it....I love this channel!!!
Because of you I've learned to be a better owner and leader to my dog, after 5 years or so of mindlessly and inconsistency "training" I have been able to do more in less than a year than ever before. I realize how much more responsibility and commitment it takes to own man's best friend 😅
It took me a long time to learn this, the owner's are walking fast to "keep up with the dog" and trying to "make the dog look good". Catch yourself doing that and remind yourself to slow down. Even if you're walking in slow-motion if the dog walks in front of you, do a correction. Don't walk fast to make it look like the dog is walking beside you. Even as a drill, do speed changes with your walking to test that your dog is really paying attention.
But the owner didn’t even have the leash at one point! How can she do a correction if she doesn’t have the leash? And he is telling her to slow down, but also cut in! What choice does she have?! Either she has to speed up to cut in front, or she will just be bumping into the dog’s midsection. It’s a no-win-situation! I’m confused, frustrated and annoyed!
It great how Tom uses different strategies for different people to work with! You she the woman struggling. He observes, and starts thinking of other ways to gif her confidence handeling the dog. Love to watch this specific video!!

Seeing Lakota with the owner was so amazing i actually teared up a bit! I love her so much and it's awesome how she can help with the training of the owners!
Absolutely amazing, the "no leash" drill at the end was brilliant! The ability to be adaptive and creative. really shows how great you are at training people!
It's great to see the difference between you handling the dog and the owners straight after because it confirms very clearly, again, that the variable is the owner. Wish you were in my ear when training, telling me what I'm doing wrong!
To me this demonstrates how energy is everything. The confidence and good energy that Tom gives off is why he does so well. The owners are very tense and are not giving off good energy but once she got a little more confident you could see a difference. I just love how this shows that once we as dog owners just work on ourselves we will see changes in our dogs.
I love how you can tell that you just absolutely love dogs in your voice and manners. You are trying to make a difference because you want everyone to have a good time with their dogs. It is spectacular.
What a great video. Just shows how important it is to train the handler. The owners need the confidence to handle the dog. Kind of reminds me of myself 3 years ago.
Loved this one. Could feel the owner’s frustration when they felt their dog building (I’ve been there!), bringing Lakota out to help her handling was such a brilliant idea. Not seen that done before.
The way this dog reacts is like a mirror to my pit/heeler. I've been working with her more intensely lately and this seems like the missing piece of the puzzle. I'm so happy to see that it is an achievable goal. Wish us luck!
I have a pit-heeler too and she’s gotten more reactive after an off-leash dog approached and things got ugly. Hoping this type of training can help her.
He literally wants to please but he's insecure with his owners. They're so tense, hanging onto the past, even with Lakota. I've noticed that a lot about the people you advise. A lot come in with real tense energy that their dogs ate mirroring. It really highlights the "No Bad Dogs" message. It's certainly shown me that I have to relax and calm myself when working with my dogs and its really helped, they listen and react so much better to me.
Some people are very intuitive with dogs, some are not. It's great to see ones in the latter category come and get help, because they're the ones who need it most! They've got a long way to go but they're in good hands with you.

I’ve grown up with dogs my entire life and, it turns out, people that literally had no idea how to train them. Watching you work with a variety of breeds and owners is truly remarkable. You are my favorite trainer on UA-cam, hands down. Thank you for all that you do.

So many points I've seen canine pros such as Tom, Will Atherton and Beckman Dogs talk about like how a tense leash and over correction amps up the dog actually happen live. Again, so helpful. I'm getting the training collar and then going to try some of the tips I've been accumulating along with training classes.. he needs all the help he can 😄 amazing and keep up the awesome work!
These videos are amazing. I've been trying to positive only train my 2 year old boxer/pitbull I literally climbed through the window of a drug house to rescue. She was TERRIFIED of men, especially dark skinned men & tried to bite my dad once. Super reactive to strangers, doorbell, dogs walking past the window, bunnies in the backyard, pretty much anything that moves. She was so protected over myself and my kids that nobody could even hug me! Within 2 weeks I'm seeing a MASSIVE difference. She isn't taking me for a walk anymore, and I'm no longer worried she'll bite someone. Thank you so much!
You can see the owners anxiety and they start marching/running away with the dog as soon as he starts reacting. Which tells the dog “oh no! You are right! There is a problem!”

I'm getting the training collar and then going to try some of the tips I've been accumulating along with training classes.. he needs all the help he can 😄 amazing and keep up the awesome work!
Thank you so much! NO BAD DOG ARMY
Love watching natural dog dog handlers,... that's what you do it's a pleasure to just watch
This video is magic! Thanks Tom!!
This video was amazing! That really broke through to the owner when she got to experience your already trained dog.
You can see the owners anxiety and they start marching/running away with the dog as soon as he starts reacting. Which tells the dog “oh no! You are right! There is a problem!”
It’s an owner problem, not a dog problem.
