- The rains have passed and all is well in my Vista, Ca garden!
I’m so relieved that nothing was last to cold temps or rot!

Thanks for following and happy gardening!
Your yards are perfection. I like it even better than your last home.
Hi Laura, thank you for mentioning me and my pottery. I appreciate it and so does New Life children’s home Haiti. I live in Moorpark which is southern Ventura county, just N/W of the San Fernando Valley.
I’d love to share my work with succulent collectors that are looking for a one of a kind handmade ceramic pot❤
And yes you can drill the sea shell planter to create a drainage hole. Use a masonry bit and you should be fine. I have done it numerous times.
everything is looking great!! i see signs of spring, hooray!!! 🥰🥰🥰 i love to hear Bentley's slurping at his "bar", lol....
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing succulents lovely collection beautiful garden
Your projects are so beautiful. I envy those living in your area.
This slow walk with the camera taking in all details made me feel as if i am there inspecting and admiring each and every plant. Its so good to see Bentley on the other side of the open door, happy to see mom after a minute and the special succulent dog has his own fountain.
I love Walkabout Wednesday….I will admit I was so sad when you moved because you had the most stunning aeoniums.
THIS GARDEN makes me forget. You did a fantastic job in this space…it has taken off so beautifully!
Sometime when you are visiting your son take your grandkids to Glendora Gardens Nursery in Glendora. They have koi/turtle ponds & give kids food to feed them. My grandkids ask me to take them all the time, plus it's a great nursery!!
This garden is stunning. You are amazing. We need you up here in San Francisco
Hi Laura long time watcher first time commenting. In regards to drilling holes in your clam. Use a diamond head drill bit, I one on glass, ceramic and more. Nothing has cracked or ever broken. Excellent for thrift store purchases.
Cheers from Australia 😊
Thanks, Melinda!
Sounds like you could tip that other shell? Looking good Laura. 😊
Beautiful! I so wish they would thrive here, but it rains an average of 300 days a year where I live. So tropical here. But haven’t given up with trying
Actually…That lava rock under the sunburst crest is great, and the air roots will totally adhere to all the holes and nooks and crannies. If anything, it speeds up the process of them attaching to something… but even if it were a smooth river rock, they’d still likely attach over time 👍🏽 Speaking of lava rock or hypertufa pots (maybe?)… those are ideal for growing sempervivums in, because they’re so tight and compact for planting. I know Laura, you mentioned semps aren’t the greatest for you. They seem to enjoy as rocky of soil as possible, even just sphagnum moss is great, because they truly thrive on sheer rock faces, cliff sides and alpine mountains. It rains, but it washes right off and not much organic matter is left behind. And lots of sun!
Thanks, Erik!
I hope so, seeing that rock under the crest , I laughed so hard and felt sorry for the poor thing at the same time. It still has couple of months before going dormant I think, I’m hopeful your theory works, great tip about the semps, I use really rocky porus soil for them as well! 👏🏼, they hate water in my area
Beautiful Garden you got right there
Wow your garden looks amazing. I can't believe how resilient these succulents are even after all that rain I am in awh.. I love how Bentley loves drinking water from the fountain, I think he thinks that fountain was built for him haha.
So nice! Florida had a lot of cold too but we faired well.
So beautiful 😍
You have such a gorgeous garden Laura, I love walk about Wednesdays. The mammillaria plumosas are currently dormant and are supposed to stay completely dry.
I know.
I’ve subjected them to plant abuse.
😢
Could you perhaps turn the clam shell into a small water feature with a tiny pump and some fire glass ?
wow the front yard looks amazing! ♡
Looking Good..
Beautiful pots how sweet she came down to gift that to you. Darn I wish she would ship. Your front yard looks great and your backyard is a dream so beautiful I would really enjoy sitting out there looking at the golf course.
Always a joy to watch you giving a tour of your garden. That lovely evening sun and cloudless blue sky does not make me at all jelous as I sit here in th UK in 3c waiting for spring so I can get to work on my sempervivum collection.
Love Ursula!! She looks so happy!!
So glad to see that Euphorbia Lactea crest doing so well. I hope it's growing some good roots for you. I guess everything else looked good, too. 😂
Laura, This might sound weird but what makes our succulents so beautiful is because we know that they are real~ Alive! They truly are gorgeous plants. I can spend all day looking at them admiring them.😍❤️🌵 Laura YOU do have some blossoms on your grapefruit tree!
Lovely plants 🪴
Like it ❤️
My friend, thank you for good sharing 😊
Hi , and I really love your garden arrangement and wow , the succulents and cactuses are so amazing 👍
Maybe for the sea shell 🐚 you could add a talovera (sorry for the spelling) sea creature. That would be fun. Love your yard ❤️
Thanks for sharing your treasures.
Your garden is fabulous! Love love all the color. All of my outside succulents are on the back sun porch they are surviving ok here on the east coast. Thanks so much for sharing missed walk about Wednesday.❤
Oooh, got here first. It's a beautiful morning here on the other side of the Pacific, Laura. I hope you and everyone are well.
Nothing beats a garden during the golden hour and after a cleansing rain. My soft succies and cacti thrive in the tropics because of the rain but I've learned not to push it with some that can't survive the searing summer heat like semps and haworthias. Some nice things I can never have.
You might want to set your ceramic shell upside down on some soft soil so that the soil is pretty much packed in there. That will prevent breakage when you drill holes on the pot. I've successfully drilled holes on my pots that way.
Anyway, I love your garden and installations. Thanks for sharing them.
Thank you for your wonderful walkabouts! Maybe you could put your feather cactus that’s in the clamshell into a smaller container and put it back into the clamshell and cover with the stones. Then you could take it out if it rains again.
That's a great idea!
Your garden looks awesome! I’ve missed seeing you while caring for my parents. My Dad passed away on Saturday 😢 Now my Mom has Covid. Ugh 💚💚💚
Laura here in hesperia ca my euphorbia trigona doesn’t make it 😢
Your pots are beautiful, I am in Oxnard.
🌸
Laura’s succulent museum 😍
My blue elfs blooms are not opening yet, Sacramento ca
Everything is filling out beautifully - it’s hard to believe this garden is less than a year old!
Was wondering how you know when to refill the water in the fountain? It’s the perfect watering station for Bentley!
Thanks for bringing us along for Walkabout Wednesday - I always look forward to it! Can’t wait to see the Carlsbad project!
It’s all guesswork.
😂

If you want to reflect more light you can put a mirror up and it will reflect more light
Laura, have you ever considered incorporating more CA natives into your landscape? Luv your videos btw!
Maybe one day!
Thinking about your ceramic clam shell - what if you just tilt it so that it won't puddle so much? I think you could still plant in it, but maybe lean it on the rock? Loving your garden, amazing what you've done in such a short time! OK, now I just watched more and you mention that your other one is tipped... ;-)
Laura, love your Walk about Wednesday. Can you tell me what size pot is your lemon tree in. Was it purchased at Planters Paradise?
I don’t recall the actual size.
I did buy it at planters paradise.
It’s fiberglass, so very easy to handle and move about😊
Here in San Diego, what are the best places to find Aloe Cynthia Giddy and/or Dorothea?
Laura, I have a gopher prob.em in my succulents. They ate all my bulbs last year then the roses and started in on my thorny succulents. They didn't eat the geraniums. Should I just pull out what's left an plant more geraniums? I have never had this problem before. How do I get rid of it.??
How do you explain the lack of damage from the copious Calif rains. If the succulents received the same amount of water in the summer would they survive?
Many succulents are summer dormant.
Heavy rains would wreak havoc.
The only explanation I have for my successes through the recent heavy rains is that I planted on generously mounded piles of amended topsoil.
Drainage is excellent.
