And these things are workhorses. I have several HD and mini-dv camcorders and they appear to break down waaaay more often than my Sony DCR digital8 camcorder.

Even though I switched from Hi-8 to MiniDV, I eventually did get a Digital8 camcorder largely for the purpose of archiving and digitizing my old Hi-8 tapes. Though to do this, you do need a FireWire cable and a computer with a FireWire port. (The latter can be kind of hard to come by, though with most modern Macintosh computers, except for the recently-discontinued super-thin 12" MacBook, you can use a FireWire-to-Thunderbolt adapter, and on Windows PCs with expansion slots you can install a FireWire or Thunderbolt card.)
I have this camera, bought it for 20 dollars with every part and a tape in Amazing condition !

I have a similar camera I could make a video of. This one I sold long ago. You are able to film multiple times on one tape.

I love camcorders. I grew up with Sony camcorders. But as the quality of the camera phones increased they became the standard. And In fact, there have been models that can zoom optically.

Phone cameras are garbage compared to real cameras, even budget camcorders.
They have wayy better dynamic range, better aperture and settings, and most importantly, optical zoom

How do I rewind the tape to watch everything? I press rewind and play but nothing shows up, I think i might have deleted all the footage
I got on for 3.00 at a garage sale in better shape. It came with night-shot (Night vision) and a digital clock on the outside.

i have this same exact camera and i bought the correct tapes to record but when i try to play it back i cant see it. do you know how to fix that? also if i were to buy an avc cord would i be able to transfer what i filmed on the tape to my computer?

Honestly with the night vision I think so but who knows
The low lighting is great, but the SteadyShot is pretty crappy. Also, record in widescreen because you'll get a wider FOV, and UA-cam hates anything that isn't widescreen these days.

+Amir K it's recording in digital 8 since it's a digital 8 camera. it says hi8 because it is capable of playing hi8 tapes to watch/upload to computer

Hi Enes! Are you attempting to play or record a video? Typically a blue screen means there’s no signal detected.
@@databits I was going to watch my 2004 circumcision videos, I press play, the counter works but the screen is blue
@@enestonyal9291 - remove the tape and grab a cotton swab and some alcohol and try cleaning the big silver video drum inside. If unsure how, look for a UA-cam video on how to clean video heads. Allow to dry well before trying your tape again.

I know I'm 2 years late but in case you still have it, its blue because the headers might need cleaning or the cables inside are dirty
Had same problim and give the headers a fine good cleaning with acetone and works perfectly

Place the camera in VCR mode, usually with a switch on the side that has multiple positions.
Some of these also stop working suddenly to happend to mine it had to be repaired.

i actually have a few of these that was given to me, they are diffrent models of the digital 8 series. I grew up with the video8 format that the last time a family recording was recorded on the camcorder was 2005. then now when i record now on the camcorder there is no picture, luckily it was fine for playback. I have a couple of D8 camcorders what can play back video and hi8 tapes and one what i can only playback and record using a digital 8 camcorder for video and that camcorder can record on the digital8 format.
can it record videos using memory stick?
It can record videos at mpeg quality which is a lower resolution than using regular tapes. Interesting enough, I was able to use a 16gb micro SD card with a pro duo adapter and a full size pro adapter. The camera can't even fully recognize the total size of the card and just maxed out the potential photo number.
Forget these cameras there is no way to transfer videos to your pc. I looked and looked

Vfor VendettaAnonymous The problem COULD be a tiny switch or sensor inside that detects if a tape is present. That sensor may be defective. This would require a technician to look at.
I found the problem, I had to push tape part to close it perfectly, if I do not push hard, it stays open little bit and can't read the tape ) thanks for ur halp, another question, can I use USB to copy the videos from this camera to my pc ? or there is another way to do this ?

StereoDustParticles I have the 330 its got the same plug inns as the one you have shown. The manual refers to the fire wire as a USB cable. And that caused me a lot of confusion, that link showing the fire wire and the card you need. That really explained a lot. So after 3 trips to the Rat Shack and $20 for the cord and $20 for the card. I got it working.
I do not know anything about these new phones. G4 , G5. So your saying it can record and do everything this camera will do ? Even better quality ? The wife got one, spent $500 had to have it for work. But I do not think if it will be around in 20 yrs. I do like my video editing software Sony Vegas and After Effects. With what I have I can do most anything I want. But you got me wondering if I need to upgrade what I have. What I get out of these little camera's is pretty good. Besides a new camera that has all the bells and whistles as these old camera's. Is going to be rather expensive.

For playback no. You can use blank D8 tapes in a Hi8 camcorder for recording.

the worst camera I ever owned . Bought it in the 2000's maybe but I payed almost 7 hundred bucks for it . the only good thing about it was that right now in September of 2020 the battery still works and holds a charge . Never use it , my PC wouldnt and couldnt download anything i recorded on it . Couldnt find a program for it .

You can use Memory Stick cards up to 1 GB, but I would recommend Digital8 tapes because they can hold more data and can store about an hour of high quality video. If you want early internet video quality or if you have a slower internet speed, go ahead I guess.
