Omg I've gone down a rabbit hole... Next project on my husband list 👌🏼 so so beautiful! I wanted the cement look but didn't exactly know how to do this.... Beautiful! Then mixing in other textures, like wood and earth tone furniture 😍😍

Hi. Great work. Did you post part three? What kind of craftsman would I need to hire to do this? Thanks for showing it CAN be done!

Can you tell us the brand of the Thin Set Mortar you used and the wax brand as well ? How is it holding up ?

I want to do this right now! Love it. Did you do part 3 to show finishing?

Hi , think the part III is the wooden bridge timber mantle piece--- shows the finished fireplace as well.
The concrete facing is darker than just raw Thinset mortar-- added black chalk for that look
The final finish on the concrete is just a "Clear" paste wax used for chalk paint.

I’m thinking of doing this. Could you use grout stain and sealer to finish?

Hi Alex, thanks for the all of the helpful videos. I have a question about the Hardie board strips on the "inside" of the firebox. I have a similar fireplace refinish project where I may have the Hardie boards extend beyond the surround about 1.5 inches into the opening. What concerns, if any, do you have about heat exposure to the Hardie? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Thanks for the comment. No, I don't think the inner "Liner" pieces are a concern for heat as the insert stoves (Gas or Wood) are a very close tolerance on the bottom and sides. Wether the pieces extend into the fire box or not. On this particular installation I allowed a 1/2" air gap on the sides , 2" on the top and 0" on the bottom. Check the installation guide regulations on your particular appliance for any and all clearance regulations.

Alex, thanks for this video! Very helpful! Would this work for an exterior application? If waterproofed?

Hi! Thanks for the step by step how! I’m totally new to this and don’t want to spend $400 (quoted) to resurface my fireplace. What is the “mud” material you use to bind the hardie board to the wall/ bricks? Is it the same material you use after the hardie board is placed on.

Do you have anyone in the York, PA area? I have a small brick fireplace I want to look like this. I wanted to use roman clay but honestly this is overwhelming and I have a toddler that doesnt give me the kind of time you had to do this.

I have a brick hearth in the floor. If I use this method, would it be safe to walk on? It’s not a high traffic area but would get stepped on when using the fireplace, etc...
