Live at the 2009 TSGA Jamboree Non Pedal Session - on Friday Herb Remington - Steel Guitar Rick Alexander - Guitar Walter Lyons - Guitar Steve Alcott - Bass
Fantastic thanks for sharing. Herb was a real gentleman. I had the great pleasure to play with him in Fredericksburg. I wish I could find video of that.
Tuned low-to-high E A C# E F# G# C# E. He starts in A6 , F# A C# E F# A C# E, but detunes the bottom string to LOWWWWW E, and the third from the top, normally an A, to G#. I hear a lowww A on bottom but I think he detunes a bottom F# down to E.
I use a similar combination myself - that is the standard A6th tuning, which I sometimes change to what I call an alternative form of F#9th.@@benjaminfeldman1244
I've been trying to figure out that G#. It seems to me that the chord root is on the top E, 5th fret, sinc the tune is in A. In that case, the G# is the 3rd of the chord, not the Maj7 of the A tuning. Then the 2nd string C# is F# at the 5th fret, which is the 6th of the chord. The 3rd string A is a D at the 5th fret, so the 4th of the A chord BUT he talks about open strings so maybe think that it's the Dom 7th of E? Beats me. Too clever by half.
They are so old they forget where they are.... But it's also clear they are & were the best. Thanks

Anyone know what tunings he's using on those two necks?
Seems to be A6th and C#minor, but see my comment and others below!
Was this in St. Louis?
Most likely Texas although they had a reserved room during the Convention in St Louis.
