this is a pretty old video but I remember watching big fish with my parents when i was around seven because it was one of their favourite movies, and I just was so overwhelmed by how amazing and beautiful it is. Now I'm sixteen and I still watch it religiously and I've tried to get my friends to watch it with me so many times to no avail and it sucks that there's this amazing movie that they might never get to experience watching, but at the same time I also feel like it's kind of something special for me that barely anyone else knows about and I get to walk around with this other secret little piece of beauty and knowledge and wisdom that other people don't know. It kind of makes me want to be a big fish in a small pond and lead a fantastical, wondrous life that people will always question the realness of, and be someone memorable to everyone I meet.
I have two movies of this kind Big Fish and Interstate 60, watched them almost accidentally with a month gap in between and never found anything similar in the next years. Truly magical pieces of cinematic art.
Much of this reminds me of Life of Pi. There are two versions of every story. Both are true. However, both are based on your veiws of life as a person. In this version, we see how he appreciates the life he has been given, by seeing the best parts of everything.
How can both be true, when Pi altered the true story because those guys didn't believe him? What happened in that both with animals is true. We can't say the other story is true because that wasn't the way people he mentioned died. But in a Big fish both versions are TRUE.
Tarmi Rićmi in life of pi what actually happened was the story he told at the end the cook and his family was on the boat he just didn’t want to believe any of it he was the lion
There are many ways to see this movie. For me it was a move about discovery. A son who dismissed his father as a nobody... a braggart, fabricator and story teller comes to realize that his father's tall tales were in fact true in their own way. Edward only used embellishement to make them more interesting. Just like the fisherman who exaggerates the size of the "big fish" he caught. It may not have been as big as claimed but it was still a very good fish. Turns out the unbelievable people his father talked about were all real people in his life just a little more normalized. The take away for me was when Edward Bloom's son discovers that his father wasn't a fabricator but a great man. A big fish loved by all. It brings to mind words from an old song... 'The greatest thing you'll ever learn is to love and be loved in return".
Its in my top 5 favs of all time. I cry at the end every time too. Ill even brace myself knowing the ending by heart and it doesn’t matter i still ball.
I always understood it like a fisherman's tail. The story that nobody believes, the one about the big fish you caught that one day, had to be there to see it. I love this movie btw.
One of my favorite movies, I've seen it a million times n still watch it to this day when HBO playing, DVD/Blue Ray or on my phone when I'm hiding at work.
I've seen this movie a few times, but I can never remember quite what happens. The scenes are individually spectacular, but for me they don't link together very well. At least the tittle now makes sense.
I genuinely think this is Burtons magnum opus and probably his most underrated movie...i love charlie and the chocolate factory and Sleepy hollow a lot,but i discovered this movie just latley
You don’t like the actor or is it something about the character himself? I have heard this a few times when film was discussed. They have commented about old Edward being stubborn on not seeing others views or feelings and how he is careless on how his life can impact others. I always feel they missed the part about “small bowl” @6:41 and what young Edward took on.
@@bashrc1375 The character is fine, is the actor, it’s not the right cast. Edward is a dreamer he truly believes his stories, the actor needs to reflect those childlike qualities, and this actor in my opinion comes rather as someone self-centered and egocentric cause this actor lacks of those childlike qualities, I just don’t feel it. Not any actor can pull up a character like Edward, maybe an actor like Robin William or Tom Hanks, childlike and charismatic.

I'm literally on the same page as you!!! this movie holds such a special place in my heart (I'm even 16 as well)
I have the exact same story and I’m 17 now. No friends have ever been willing to experience this movie

Burton's greatest achievement........I love this movie

I remember this movie I watched it ages ago for some reason I don’t know why it just stuck with me and was really interesting

Who ever wrote this movie was very high
I heard good things about this film, but it didn’t quite pull at the heartstrings like I was expecting. Great analysis of it though!
So funny
I really liked this movie 🎥 👌 except for the actor playing old Edward
