The thread cutter on your sewing machine is definitely a blessing, isn't it? Somewhere in the bunkhouse I have a whole box of starts of this braid - - but, I really am going to have to work this project ... Your adventure is quite fascinating.
I really appreciate when you tell us about the amount of time you spent making this braided quilt top. You did a lot of sorting, and let us know what and why you were doing the sorting ... I am thinking that from you learned doing this project, your next braided quilt will take a good bit less time .. so, you have saved those of us that will try this project will have less learning curve. That is GREAT!
Hi there Mary! 🌸 Thanks so much! I am glad you found this video of some use! ☀️❤️♻️. It was certainly evidence of 1) procrastination; 2) changing my mind a LOT. 🤣
@@sunbeamfabricart well, I have bins and boxes full of procrastination - - you are changing that for me, and I surely appreciate your sharing you adventure and expertise. I am learning a lot from you.
This is great! Love your ideas. 💕 I was very surprised by the bright yellow - it really did look white on the black and white picture. Deb x 🤗
Hi Deb! I really appreciate you! ☀️
I have just re-watched this video on television, and I think that I have neglected to tell you that you must be the queen of the smallest workspace I have ever seen. You have a NUMBER of practices that scrap quilters would do well to follow. I haven't had a handful of scraps in a few decades ... I commend you for taking care of business as it happens. It is a concept that seems to have escaped my abilities ... but I keep being encouraged that with diligence and perseverance my quilting/craft footprint on the ranch will be reduced. I just had to stop by and let you know that I really do enjoy your work and thought process. I also would like to know how much white sashing you had left over ... natural feminine nosiness, I guess! LOL
Thanks so much, Mary! ☀️❤️ Yes my space is very small for sure. But it works. Let's see, that was the Kona Snow, and I think I had just a small amount left. It went into the scrap bin (of course! haha) . I sometimes cut it very close on having enough sashing. ✂️🧵
@@sunbeamfabricart my sewing ability started in a clothing factory ... I rarely know how to do anything in less than a hundred (or at least more than I need) .... I totally understand not knowing how much you are using, because with scrap quilts, there are always more scraps somewhere! I was glad that you had enough left. Life's challenges, such as running out before one expects are what makes life less boring! I have to say, though .... if I had not had a 60x 40 not shop to bury my stash in, I would not have been buried in scraps, fabric, and sewing machines! I admire your control - - makes better sense than what I have done
Good idea.
It's so cool how your brain makes random fabrics looks like they go together
Thanks! ☀️
Great solution to your '' HOLE'' problem .... My mom use to tell me to repeat my similar '' solutions'' to problems in my quilts..... One patch highlights a mistake ... multiple patches are design decisions.
Patches = Love! ☀️❤️
Beautiful finish! This is something I've wanted to try without foundation fabric, so THANKS for all the helpful tips you gave 🥰
Hi Lesley! ☀️You are so welcome!
I'm not good at making my own designs, though I am trying. That is what I do for my backings. Most of my stash is fat quarters. Just found your channel, great ideas.
I’m so glad!! Welcome!!! 💛🩵💛
Excellent, thankyou , many great ideas & wise words ,clever tutor, ( how do you shuffle your many scrapes ? Australia
Aww thank you so much! I appreciate it! ☀️☀️☀️
That's fabulous. I made a braid quilt several years ago and it just didn't turn out very good. It's pretty but the braids were not very straight. You did a great job. Beautiful!!
Thank you!!! ☀️💕
Appreciate how you explain your process in creating with scraps - beautiful result using up scraps!
Thanks so much! ☀️💕
Another brilliant idea for using up scraps Annette! I just get so inspired when I watch your videos
I'm so glad! Thank you! ☀️
You may have mentioned it but I guess I missed it…how wide are your strips? Are they consistently a set width or do they vary? Thanks for the great video!
Thanks! ☀️. The widths I used were between 2 and 2.75 " I am guessing. I didn't use super skinny widths. I fully expected wonky bowing, but I guess it all evened out in the end.
Love the effect from the little patches!!
Thanks! ☀️
You certainly have a lot of left over scraps. these could make a quilt top.
Definitely!☀️
Nice😊 how did you stop it going wonky with different width strips??
Thanks! ☀️. And great question. I didn't use super skinny widths. But I fully expected it to bow a little bit, and believe it or not, that was my original plan, to demonstrate that it's okay to be wonky! 🤣. I think over the length it just all evened out, which was a pleasant surprise. ❤️
I love the pattern but if I make one I think I will start with a square on point.
Sounds pretty! ☀
Are you using strips of different widths?😊
Yes! I used between probably 1.5" to 2.5", trying to make the pairs similar widths. It all worked out. ☀️
Can you tell us what machine you are using?
Sure, it’s a Singer Modern Quilter. Purchased February 2018.
That really turned out beautifully.
Thanks so much! ☀️🌸
Your ideas are so creative! Thank you!
I appreciate it! ☀️
Thank you for sharing, love the quilt!
I'm so glad to hear it! ☀️❤️
Great work! I love your management of scraps. Thank you for sharing your tips and the white and black images. Enjoy your quilt, those twelve hours of happy sewing deserve it.
Thanks so much! ☀️
I like the idea and how you realized it. And the way you explain every details very simply : how you began, then decide to sort your pieces in different ways, then count them before sewing... Very interesting to see how your project goes on. Love the small patches instead of undoe, they give extra shape. One of the most pleasant and interesting tutorial I've ever seen about patchwork. Thank you very much (from France )for sharing your beautiful work 😃
Merci! I am glad you enjoyed my video! ☀️❤️. I love patches on a quilt! 🧵 ✂️
Fun scrap quilt!!
Totally! ☀️
Great video. I love watching you. Your voice is great as is your mannerisms. Keep it up. I’m sharing this video.
I appreciate that! Thank you so much! ☀️💕
How do you accumulate so many scraps? I love watching you create something new and usable from just scraps.
Thank you! ☀️ I make a lot of projects so create lots of scraps.
Great inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing. It really helps seeing the process ❤🎉
You are so welcome! ☀️
Love this❤ quick ? Do you think I could do tjis using a variety of width on the strip hut same length?
Thank you! And yes, you could. ☀️❤️. But if it makes more sense to your brain just use all the same width and length. No rules! ♻️✂️. My widths ranged from 1 inch to 2.5 inches. I did try to get pairs somewhat close to the same width, but I did not measure anything. In one case I put a wide dark on one side, paired with 2 skinny darks on the other side.
I love the way you used your scraps to make this new quilt top. Thank You for taking it step by step. Easy to replay for making this quilt top.
Thank you so much, glad it was helpful! ☀️
Quel beau travail Annette ! Un gros travail d’organisation, des chutes inspirantes… merci pour cette démonstration. À bientôt. Régine 🇫🇷
Aww merci beaucoup Régine ! ❤️. J'ai changé mon idée BEAUCOUP de fois, et...... ça a fonctionné. Passez une bonne journee! ☀️🌸
☀️
The patcch is a great solution!
Lovely❤
Thank you!
Very cool
Thanks! ☀️
Roll or row ?
Both? ☀️
Love it, Just me but I would have added some more little squares on other rows so that one patch did not stand out but that you meant for them to be there.
Thanks! ☀️🌸
Really pretty quilt, thank you for sharing ❤ it.
You are so welcome! ☀️💕
I love scrap quilts! This is a great idea 🎉 Thank you ❤
You are so welcome! I love scrap quilts too! ☀️❤️ (which is a good thing since I always have some! )
Pretty quilt from scraps. Lovely.
It really is! Thanks! ☀️🌸♻️
Love it adding it to my list also totally love the idea of putting small square on areas that were missed never saw that done before
Thanks Linda! I recently patched up the quilt my mom made for my son about 20 years ago, and I am all for quilt patching! ☀️❤️🌸✂️🧵
This is such a beautiful quilt ❤❤❤ I have got to make this quilt 😊
Aww thank you! ☀️
Very pretty❤Thank you for sharing 🤗
Thank you! 😊
Excellent idea what a great scrappy quilt😊
Thank you! 😊
Good tip for the black not showing through.
Thanks!
Wow i much prefer strips to squares and this is great !!!
Thanks! I love braid and herringbone type patterns a lot! But I'm okay with just about anything 🤣☀️❤️
Kona Snow is my “go to” background color.
It's very nice, isn't it!?
I would love to see your patriotic project ideas!
Hi Cathy! Any of my ideas can be patriotic! Just sub out your color choices! July 4th is coming! This one would be super cute with red on one side of the V, blue on the other side of the V with the white sashing! Great idea! ❤️
When you would add the two sets of strips (light or dark), would those pairs have to be of the same width?
My widths ranged from 1 inch to 2.5 inches. I did try to get pairs somewhat close to the same width, but I did not measure anything. In one case I put a wide dark on one side, paired with 2 skinny darks on the other side. But if it makes more sense to your brain just use all the same width and length. No rules! ♻️✂️.
Thank you, I was wondering the same 😊
Fun design, thanks for sharing!
