That machine pulling those spikes out is so cool! Never seen it before. Same as never seen ties pulled out by machine either! What a fab video Spike❤😊👍

I love seeing the uber special equipment in use by the MOW crew.

This Equipment does ALL of the Heavy Lifting for the MOW Crews. Weak Minds and Strong Backs are Not as Critical as they once were Thanks to New Equipment.

That's cool. Enjoy watching the MOW. Have you ever seen the Amtrak MOW installing cement ties. This whole process is 1300 ft. long.Pulls the spikes lifts up the rail ejects the old wooden tie and installs a cement tie and clamps the rail back on to the cement tie. They are working in Lancaster county Pa. as of now.

Norfolk Southern has Pried Opened their Thick Wallets and starts a Healthy Mtce. Schedule. 600 Million Payout to East Palestine, OH, got their Attention. 🤪👎

It wasn't a track defect that caused E. Palestine. It was a hot bearing that was wrung off.

Great catch of MOW work. Those machines are always fascinating.

What a unique catch. It isn’t every day that you can witness this type of track maintenance operation on one of your frequented train spotting locations. I would speculate that ties on street running locations are more vulnerable to rot because drainage of the track structure may not be as effective as higher open ballasted ROW, plus things like road salt from winter road deicing would also contribute to deterioration. I’ve seen ties and timbers pulled from railroad/road crossings that were thoroughly life expired after only a few years of hard use. Even with mechanical help, this is still tough, physical work.

That was a nice close-up look at tie replacement under less than desirable conditions. The compacted ground and decayed ties really hinder this compared to those Mainline projects. However compared to no work being done at all every little bit helps

It was really nice I could stand on the sidewalk and get really close shots and the crew was very friendly and professional.

Must be tough to decide of all those crappy old ties which few they will replace.

I think it was just random. They did tell me they were going to have to completely rip it all up and replace them soon.
