I didn't really notice it before, but it really is Sonic's arrogance that does him in. In the actual song, he focuses more on his opponent to know what's ahead. He pays too much attention to Eggman to avoid Furnace coming at him suddenly, and chances are he's running slower than usual to keep pace with said opponent and continue engaging him in verbal combat, which lets Furnace get ahead of him easier. In this lyricised version, Sonic is too focused on what he's saying himself to realise that Furnace is literally explaining his plan. If he'd listened, he might have caught on to what Furnace was going to do, but he didn't. All of it could've been avoided if Sonic was less full of himself...now, Eggman's full of him instead.
Furnace had to come up with multiple strategies in combat to win, and it is true, Sonic's arrogance does him in. Because he ignores most of what Furnace is saying to taunt him instead, ironically most of the other characters in this situation would have overcome this, but Sonic is the one who's arrogance comes back to haunt him
My own headcanon of Bad Future Prey and Fight or Flight is that after Tails defeats eggman, he gets sad that his friends were killed, and he spots a “Past” panel. So he tries to fix the situation and tries to turn it back to the original Sonic games.
I like how furnace analyzes sonic throughout the song, trying different protocols until he lands on the "Sonic is overconfident" one, which is what kills him in the end.
i love how at 1:51 furnace literally tells sonic what hes going to use against him as a test to see if sonic will respond. sonic ends up not listening, being confident again, and furnace authorizes the tactical retreat. its a very cool detail
I love the way this song really gives a clear picture of how the chase goes. It's also cool how Furnace is constantly analyzing the situation and as the chase continues, he's forced to keep coming up with new strategies. In the beginning, Furnace just tries to capture Sonic alive. But then you have this line from Furnace: "Target absconding. Alternative detainment now applied. Stage two now active. Lethal force is authorized." At this point, Sonic must have increased his speed, making it clear to Furnace that he wasn't going to surrender. So Furnace decides to simply kill him. Furnace then analyzes Sonic's current speed and determines that he has a 99.99% chance of successfully capturing Sonic. But then Furnace says this: "Activating overdrive. Prey escalating current chase. Engage: reroute combat strategy." At this point, Sonic sped up even more, to the point that even after going into overdrive, Furnace can't keep up. This likely reduced that 99.99% chance of success drastically, maybe even reducing it to 0%. Because of this, Furnace is forced to come up with a new plan as catching up to Sonic is impossible at this point. Furnace actually filters out unnecessary audio while looking through Sonic's data here, and I found that kinda funny because it implies that Furnace, despite being a robot, can be distracted by noise. Furnace then decides to use Sonic's ego against him and makes a tactical retreat. I like the idea that the plan is essentially that if Furnace isn't chasing him, but Eggman is, then Sonic will slow down just to gloat. Furnace then uses that moment when Sonic reduced his speed to fly ahead of him and then caught him by surprise. I like that Sonic doesn't lose legitimately. Furnace wasn't able to match his speed and had to resort to trickery in order to prevail. Sonic even in death is still the fastest thing alive.

3:18 I know a lot of people say this about Juno when he creates EXE art but Jesus Christ. You can just see Eggman drooling over the thought of eating Sonic. His Head is also really skull like and has a few veins. Like contrast that with how fictional and cartoonish Sonic looks during this art and you can just see how much Sonic acts like his usual self and how Eggman is being horrid. Which is actually how the starved story goes, everyone is their normal self except Eggman.
i love how furnace is just spewing robot processes in response to sonic's lyrics. It's almost intimidating, he really doesn't give a damn about the song and is solely focusing on what he was made for.
Yo imagine if starved was part of the chaos council in Prime He'd be that guy in the corner mumbling to himself that even the other eggmans are terrified of

I do love that some of Sonic's insults get to him, like at 1:08, where he just tells Sonic that he is superior to him and that his odds of getting sonic was at 99.99%
Ignoring the amazing lyrics that really do the song justice, I just want to talk about how Juno portrayed Starved with his art style. Starved's entire plan is based off the road being a flat line Another possibilities of how sonic could survive: tucking into a spin dash, jumping, side stepping furnace, boosting, and much more
Wouldn't sonic just go over the hill? And that might be good if the hill is tall enough so it actually would hide furnace. But I think his plan is the fact that sonic is stuck in a straight line
I really like the charming remarks Junos been putting in his songs recently, like the "His sneaky plan is working" at the end. Great work as always Juno!
Imagine if Juno actually uses the good future version. That would be pretty dope. Edit: I didn't intend for this reply section to turn into a literal warzone.
There was a good version of Sonic jumped over Furnace at the last second and faced the two and outran them as Furnace used his entire fuel and stopped. Other also involved that post from old Sonic games that would time travel him to the past/future of the zone.
One neat detail I just noticed that leans into the "Sonic's overconfidence is his downfall" angle is how Sonic is too busy taunting Furnace to notice that Furnace is literally TELLING Sonic the plan to defeat him. If he had actually listened to Furnace, he might've made it out.
Man, I think this is another one of Juno's best covers ever. Even starved is after hedgehog stew. If this was the real deal, it would have been the best song in fnf history.
This might be one of, if not the best lyrics of prey, one huge thing that helps my opinion is the fact that most lyrics tend to not give furnace much personality while yours does, and yes metal sonic does have a personality and it has been showed time and time again, so seeing this is really cool
In my opinion, Furnace really doesn't have a personality to begin with, mostly due to the fact Starved with a single purpose and putting everything else aside. However, this cover does Furnace correctly. Highly analytical, running purely off of protocols. Anything from them considered personality is just a result of some adaptive A.I Furnace may have. That's just my take though.
I agree more with Vex. Metal has a reason for having somewhat a part of Sonic's personality, as Eggman's ultimate win is to crush Sonic's ego, and what best than an exact copy of himself? Furnace is nothing but a tool.
Giving him a personality would have been dangerous as soon as sonics dead and metal becomes the true one eggmans gonna get folded like an omelett and scrambled lile an egg
Juno’s sonic is so underrated lowkey, the transition from him Taunting Furnace to turning to Eggman and shouting “Hey Red head!” Is so beautifully organic and Sonic-like. Furnace wheeling into “Filtering out voice of the target” is also so incredibly smooth, Juno is so good at what he does!
This is fantastic! No over the top scary voice for Starved, Furnace only having the hunt and kill personality, only retreating when it needs to strategize. Sonic not taking everything so seriously and even throwing around jokes and insults like he would do in a situation like this. Just utterly so well done, Juno, like the hedgehog! Sidenote: That ART man, holy cow, love how Starved has a dry and splotchy texture on his skin to really encapsulate how much his diet has effected him. Drink yo liquids, egghead
@@shhhhhhhhhhhhhh I mean, that's the fandom's problem, not necessarily the source's. Besides, I was referring to the lyrics and song itself, and their _references_ to Hedgehog Stew to begin with.
I love how furnace doesn’t sing, but rather notes all the little updates and things he’s doing while somehow fitting to the song. And Starved is perfect. Great as usual, Juno!
I really like Starved's portrayal in this song, the fact he looks less like he crawled out of hell somehow makes his presence and this entire situation SCARIER- as if this could be a plot for a game. Sonic's treating it as he usually does but Eggman's entire strategy changed, and Sonic's arrogance in thinking the now gluttonous doctor was the same does him in as he slows down to taunt him. This perfectly captures the essence of what a good horror scenario is. Sonic.EXE (the original concept) relies on making the characters powerless when an enemy that uses their weaknesses to win is far more effective. For a horror concept to be good, there has to be a win condition for the victims. If Sonic had realized Furnace was retreating, that it was a threat, he would have survived and maybe even won.
I just now found out about this video today and it has grown to become one of my favorites! I think the lyrics you came up for each characters fits them perfectly. I love Furnace trying different protocols and analyzing Sonic throughout the chase and Starved with the "Hedgehog Stew" references I believe? Also, "Your flesh is a feast for a king, You cannot hide behind precious rings." This was my favorite line throughtout the entire song.
2:53 I love how this line implies that Snickers canonically exists within the Sonic Universe. Now that I think of it, it also kinda implies that other food companies (including companies with meat-based products) could exist as well
Timestamps of every Hedgehog Stew reference: 2:14 (Honorable mention, but not put there by Juno) The instrumental has a Hedgehog Stew leitmotif 2:35 Starved mentions hedgehog stew 3:05 Another mention of hedgehog stew 4:13 Another reference, this time more direct. Multiple times during Hedgehog Stew, Robotnik says "Oh boy!" 4:41 At this point it's almost a direct line from Hedgehog Stew 4:48 The captions read "[HIS SNEAKY SCHEME IS WORKING]" which is a direct line from Hedgehog Stew
Furnace is one of my favorite Metal-Sonic-esque designs, and this song was one of my favorites from the mod. This cover does the polar opposite of disappoint!
I also love how sonic says he is fast but somehow a big machine with a small flare and carrying a person whose diet is just meat can catch up with him. (Ignore this one and see the one below) 👍

The funny thing, is that while people do say that sonic goes slower to gloat while starved is singing, allowing Furnace to catch up to him (which I do think), but the sprites show otherwise, as sonic's sprite implies he's going faster, and the background moves much faster along with that.
my guy juno making a kickass cover of prey Really well done! Love how Eggman sounds normal, Sonic's personality being perfectly captured, and of course Furnace being awesome.
He’s super rude during this song (like the real sonic from the games) cocky and not paying attention most of the time, example is the entire part of the song with Starved Eggman
Love the details of how all of furnaces lines seemed to be registered conditions he’s reacting to according and how starved sounds normal, as remember, he’s still Robotnik, not some evil entity.
He’s already done Starved on MaimyMayo’s Fight or Flight, so I’m curious to to if his Starved is different from Maimy’s Starved. Not just in voice but personality as well!
"Man, just eat a Snickers!" "Your diet doesn't do your skin any favors." This has got to be my favorite lyric video from you ever. It was REALLY *well done.* And the way Starved says "The taste of hedgehog has a rich, nuanced flavor." was awsome!
1:50 I think it’s cool how Furnace literally lists sonic’s faults, and then uses it against him straight away here, sonic proves his point by literally taunting him. It makes it so much more frustrating to see sonic be killed in the end. Cool detail. Edit - what I meant was that sonic was so focused on himself that he didn’t notice furnace’s ‘temporary retreat’, which is what caused him to be killed in the end
And even furnace saying *NOW PREPARING FOR HEDGEHOG DEFEAT* could be Furnace seeing how Sonic isn’t listening and is gonna watch his downfall during the entire Starved section until the end

@@dylanzlol7293 I could imagine why Tails would go up there too in the universe, although I don't think Knuckles would be manipulated in this universe, more like he has no idea what's going on. He would have heard about the legend of Angel Island, and desperate to find a way to stop Starved Eggman, he goes up to the island. Knuckles would think that Tails is planning to steal the Master Emerald and attacks Tails, who tries to explain the situation. Starved Eggman, with Furnace following would probaly be chasing Tails, and while trying to attack Tails, Knuckles sees Starved Eggman and Furnace, finally realizing that Tails was telling the truth all along and giving Tails the aid he came to Angel Island seeking

Yo imagine if starved was part of the chaos council in Prime

Oh boy. HEDGEHOG STEW
(His sneaky scheme is working)
I love how Furnace's lines really drive home how he has no higher mind aside from killing and cooking prey.
He does and doesn't. If you listen closely you can hear him yell (Although it's a very weak yell) for a line or two after Sonic says "All you do as belch soot"
Robots should only do what they’re designed to, after all.
I do love that some of Sonic's insults get to him, like at 1:08, where he just tells Sonic that he is superior to him and that his odds of getting sonic was at 99.99%
eggman without a mustache is scarier than the entirety of the sonic.exe creepypasta (I know that's a *really* low bar)
Ignoring the amazing lyrics that really do the song justice, I just want to talk about how Juno portrayed Starved with his art style. It made absolutely no sense for him to somehow lose his nose and completely change the shape of his head and mouth, and I'll say that drawing really makes it look more like some kind of disease Robotnik got from eating an alien species.
This video was awesome under every aspect!

It was only a matter of time before that hedgehog was his.
If you really think about it, if there was a slight hill in the path that sonic is running on, he would survive. Starved's entire plan is based off the road being a flat line
Another possibilities of how sonic could survive: tucking into a spin dash, jumping, side stepping furnace, boosting, and much more
Wouldn't sonic just go over the hill?
And that might be good if the hill is tall enough so it actually would hide furnace.
But I think his plan is the fact that sonic is stuck in a straight line
Maybe Eggman did something to the road to make ot flat, or it's a completely different one separate from Stardust Speedway?
His strategy was so flawed that Sonic wins in Good Future by just looking down once

[HIS SNEAKY SCHEME IS WORKING]
@@dtrail3276it’s only a matter of time before that hedgehog’s mine..
@@faustodaniel5716 and a personality would make it so that while highly unlikely furnace could betray eggman and help sonic.
Yeah I like furnaces personality here too, just because it is obsessed with something doesn't mean there isn't a personality 👍
"I calculate at 99.99% success rate" damn that hit

Also, iteachvader would be proud.
iteachvader literally hates starved eggman and fnf as a whole he even disabled hedgehog stew's comments because of starved fans flooding his comments
@@shhhhhhhhhhhhhh I mean, that's the fandom's problem, not necessarily the source's. Besides, I was referring to the lyrics and song itself, and their _references_ to Hedgehog Stew to begin with.
So *THAT'S* why it sounds so familiar.
Geez just say the song was amazing and terrifying
Some people prefer to hear WHY they think it's those things.
I love how in 2:46 it references “evil ham” from sonic boom, I love all the little Easter eggs in this song
I was wondering what that phrasing was for.

I love how Furnace uses Sonic's arrogance to his tactics, and how specifically driven Robotnik is to make a Hedgehog Stew once he Wins The Race.
“Target absconding, alternative detainment now applied. Stage 2 now active: lethal force is authorized.” Is such a hard line, like Jesus Christ.
